Exclusive: CAA has signed Tony and Olivier-Award winning director Ivo van Hove in all areas.
Belgian-born van Hove has built a reputation for experimental revisions of Hollywood and Broadway classics including Broadway revival productions of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge, for which he received a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award, and The Crucible as well as Lee Hall’s Network (starring Bryan Cranston and Tatiana Maslany), All About Eve (with Gillian Anderson in the Bette Davis role) and Stephen Sondheim’s West Side Story.
Last year, van Hove teamed with John Wells to develop Doll at Warner Bros. Television. The project is described as a psychological thriller series set in the ruthless world of a modern music conservatory. The former’s artistic collaborator, Jan Versweyveld, was set to serve as production and lighting designer on the project, which marks the duo’s first foray into scripted television.

Jessie Buckley has lent her voice to “Three Hares,” the hand-drawn animated short film from BAFTA-winning filmmaker Paloma Baez.
The ecologically-focused film — which has now completed production — was directed and adapted by Baeza from an original story by Hanya Yanagihara, the author of “The People in the Trees,” “A Little Life,” “To Paradise,” and editor-in-chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine.
As the film’s description goes, “Three Hares” weaves an enchanting creation myth and the mystical origin story of the ancient three hares symbol into an environmental tale about three sisters, who must remind mankind to respect the earth in order to protect their future.
Oscar and BAFTA nominee Buckley (“Wicked Little Letters”, “The Lost Daughter”) narrates the film, which also features an original score by two-time Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla and co-composer Juan Luqui (“The Last of Us”).

British actor James Norton, who starred as arch-villain Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley and McMafia, has revealed how he has managed his diabetes during a recent theatre run of the gruelling play, A Little Life, adapted from the 2015 novel by Hanya Yanagihara.
Norton is on stage for three and a half hours every day, sometimes twice, in the lead role of Jude, and has shared with the BBC how he had glucose shots and food hidden on stage to enable him to control his blood sugar levels all the time he was on stage.
Norton has diabetes type 1, and told the BBC:
“Adrenaline affects sugar levels. I can’t leave the stage apart from the interval for three and a hour hours, so I have to find ingenious ways of working out what my sugar levels are doing and then mitigating against going hypoglycaemic, which is a risky low,...

The third weekend of February brings some fascinating exhibitions, some left-field film releases... and a cocaine-fuelled bear. Yep, you read that right.
But that’s not all that features in this week’s Arts Agenda, The Independent’s guide to the best cultural activities each and every weekend. Our team of critics and editors have selected a range of options from across the different spheres of culture: art, books, film, music, stage and TV.
Among the highlights are David Hockney’s new immersive experience at Lightroom (we’ve also got an exclusive interview with the man himself). TV editor Ellie Harrison talks about the return of ITV’s Unforgotten – sadly sans Nicola Walker – while film editor Adam White has found the perfect Netflix film to fill the Jennifer Coolidge-shaped hole in all our lives after The White Lotus. Arts editor Jessie Thompson, meanwhile, enthuses about Coco Mellors’ bingeable novel Cleopatra and Frankenstein,...

His character may be behind bars, but James Norton is still the most chilling thing about Happy Valley.
BBC One’s hit crime drama returned on New Year’s Day for its third series, with new episodes airing every Sunday.
Norton reprises the role he is best known for: the villainous sex offender and killer Tommy Lee Royce.
In the first few episodes, Royce has remained in prison following the events of series two. However, as Annabel Nugent speculated in her episode three recap, there are maybe signs that a prison break could be on the cards.
Speaking to The Independent recently, Norton opened up about the trauma he experienced as a child, and how he had drawn on that trauma as an actor.
Growing up, Norton attended the North Yorkshire Catholic boarding school Ampleforth College. The school, sometimes referred to as the “Catholic Eton”, was banned from taking on...

After several lavish years, in which the bounty of big-name books became almost impossible to keep up with, publishing is finally catching up with itself. 2022 was arguably slower, and quieter, than its recent predecessors — there was no Sally Rooney to adorn tote bags all over Brooklyn, no Jonathan Franzen dominating the discourse. Instead of fighting over which blockbusters deserved their place at the very top, there was time and space for titles of all sorts to find a reading audience. Likely, no two “best of” lists will look alike this year, which means the glitch in the system may finally be repairing itself; the algorithm is weakening. Here, THR chooses its top 10 titles and a host of additional works we hope you’ll pick up.

Guardian critics Charlotte Northedge, Ben Beaumont-Thomas and Simran Hans look ahead to the best of the year in culture
It may be cold and grey in Britain right now but for the Guardian’s culture critics there is plenty to be excited about in the new year, even if you are staying inside for now. Charlotte Northedge (books), Ben Beaumont-Thomas (music) and Simran Hans (film) join Nosheen Iqbal to look ahead to some of the year’s biggest and most anticipated releases.
There are new books from Monica Ali, Douglas Stuart and Hanya Yanagihara. And in 2022 there will be a continued surge in demand for ‘cosy crime’ novels driven by the wildly successful previous releases by Richard Osman, who returns in autumn with his third book.

The 2021 Sundance Film Festival awards went off at a very fast clip tonight, in an hour’s time. Host Patton Oswalt — or as he billed himself, “Discount Giamatti” — kept the jokes flowing.
Siân Heder’s Coda, which we first told you was swooped up by Apple with a rich $25 million bid, came up big. It won both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize, U.S. Dramatic Audience Award and a Special Jury Ensemble Cast award too. Heder also won Best Director in the U.S. Dramatic section. The movie follows a girl named Ruby. As the only hearing person in an otherwise deaf family, she is divided about staying with them as their fishing business is threatened.
Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s Summer of Soul took the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award for Documentary.
