WME Independent has signed on to rep world sales rights on Nuremberg, a historical thriller set in post-war Germany from filmmaker James Vanderbilt, and will introduce the pic to buyers at the upcoming Cannes market.

Was Her Family Member the Zodiac Killer? ‘The Truth About Jim’ Follows One Woman’s Quest for Answers
True crime documentaries are so ubiquitous that the subgenres now have subgenres. You’ll find countless serial killer stories, with various wrinkles to distinguish one from the next. And lately we’ve seen an influx of projects featuring citizen investigators sifting through their own family histories — Great Photo, Lovely Life, and Born in Synanon come to mind — in search of closure.
The Truth About Jim, the new Max Original docuseries from Investigation Discovery, is a sort of mashup of the above. It follows a young woman, Sierra Barter, seeking to...

David Fincher is an obsessive filmmaker. He's become somewhat infamous for his perfectionism, shooting multiple — some would say exhausting — takes to get what he needs. There's a method to this madness: Fincher is looking for something raw and honest. "I hate earnestness in performance," the filmmaker once half-jokingly said. "Usually by Take 17 the earnestness is gone." It's fitting, then, that Fincher's best film is about obsession. "Zodiac," which hit theaters in 2007 and promptly failed at the box office, is the best work of art the filmmaker has created so far; a brilliant, captivating film that grabs you by the throat from the first frame and doesn't let up. Like the characters who inhabit the movie, we grow obsessed with the story; with the mystery; with the truth that can never really be learned.
Fincher knows a thing or two about serial killers. His thriller "Seven" (or "Se7en" if you want...

When reading actor Brian Cox's memoir "Putting the Rabbit in the Hat," I was disappointed that he didn't mention his work on David Fincher's superlative "Zodiac." Throughout the book, Cox shows no reluctance to burn bridges, and given his ribbing of "Succession" co-star Jeremy Strong's method acting, I was eager to see if he'd have similar words about Fincher's infamous perfectionism. Alas, no such stories exist.
True to its title, the 2007 "Zodiac" film is about the Zodiac killer, the still unidentified murderer who left Northern California quaking with fear as the 1960s closed. The film spans the 1960s to 1980s (with an epilogue in 1991), focusing on the killings and then Robert Graysmith's (Jake Gyllenhaal) investigation years later.
One of the movie's earlier sequences recreates an episode from October 22, 1969. Someone claiming to be the Zodiac said he would dial into Jim Dunbar's Kgo-tv (local to...

The tale begins with a crime that left everyone baffled. In July 1976, a school bus carrying 26 children (and one driver) was hijacked in the sleepy Central California town of Chowchilla. The kidnap victims were taken to two vans, driven to an abandoned rock quarry, led off the bus, and essentially buried alive in an underground compartment full of mattresses. Things like that just didn’t happen in a town like this.
Seventies California was loaded with bad juju, from the Zodiac Killer to the Patty Hearst kidnapping to Jim Jones.

The San Francisco-based Dave Toschi was a vital figure in one of the most high-profile criminal cases in U.S. history: the hunt for the Zodiac Killer. His methods and demeanor also served as inspiration for Steve McQueen’s titular Bullitt and Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry. But when it came to bringing the man himself to the big screen, who better than Mark Ruffalo? As it turned out, the studio didn’t care if Ruffalo signed on for Zodiac or not.
Speaking with highsnobiety, Mark Ruffalo said that his offer for Zodiac was a take it or leave it one, which is no surprise given the actor had more indie cred than studio push. “Studios, they weren’t coming to me in that way. I’ll never forget when they were negotiating my deal [for Zodiac], the studio negotiator literally said to my manager, “Look, we don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo,...

Universal Pictures Presents The Most Terrifying Film Of The Summer, The Last Voyage Of The Demeter – only in theaters on Friday August 11th.
Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage Of The Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London.
Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.
The film stars Corey Hawkins as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, Aisling Franciosi as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian as the Demeter’s first mate.
Rated R.

Peacock’s new true crime documentary series Myth of the Zodiac Killer reexamines the evidence collected, including the letters and cryptograms, using new technology. The trailer for the two-part docuseries reveals investigators will be using AI to help figure out if all of the correspondence was, in fact, written by just one individual.
Peacock offers this description of the docuseries premiering on Tuesday, July 11, 2023: “The identity of the serial killer known as ‘The Zodiac’ has been confounding investigators for nearly fifty years, but an unlikely and unconventional theorist may have finally shed light to America’s most famous cold case by asking a question that no one else has ever dared ask: what if the reason the Zodiac has never been caught…is because he never existed in the first place?”
Andrew Nock directed the documentary series and serves as an executive producer along with David Karabinas, Brad Bernstein,...

Catching Killers season 3 premiered on June 23 on Netflix.
In previous seasons, the true crime documentary series explored infamous murders such as The Happy Face Killer, Btk, and the Phoenix Serial Shooter. Now the latest season dives into the stories of four new killers: the Railroad Killer, the New York Zodiac Killer, the Olympic Park Bomber and the D.C. Sniper.
However, the Netflix series is not the first time these serial killers have been looked at by the media. If you want to know where to find more information about each of these four cases, here is where you can look.
Railroad Killer
Angel Maturino Reséndiz, also known as the Railroad Killer is suspected of killing at least 23 people across the United States and Mexico in the 1990s. Before voluntarily surrendering himself to law enforcement in 1999, Reséndiz was on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list. He also featured on the show America’s Most Wanted.

David Tennant took on one of his darkest roles to date when he played Dennis Nilsen – the notorious “Muswell Hill Murderer” who killed at least 12 young boys and men in North London from 1978 to 1983 – in ITV’s Des.
Tennant was the latest in a long line of actors to dramatise the lives of some of the world’s most prolific murderers – and it’s easy to see why such a part would be appealing. Playing a serial killer allows an actor to show their range and move away from being typecast. For those who’ve gone before them, such roles have been known to make a career, winning Oscars, Golden Globes and Baftas for those who take them on.
However, portraying serial killers obviously comes with its own set of challenges. These are people audiences know well, so do they mimic them word for word or do their own interpretation,...

Matt Reeves' 2022 film "The Batman" featured the title character in yet another rebooted continuity, this time even darker and grittier than ever before. Batman (Robert Pattinson) was seen as a pale-skinned, stoic outsider, rarely making public appearances as Bruce Wayne, preferring to use his fists to ignite fear in the hearts of the criminal underground. He didn't smile and seemed incapable of experiencing happiness. The Riddler (Paul Dano) was reimagined to resemble the real-life Zodiac Killer, and murdered people on the regular. Gotham City was more corrupt than ever, and it is tantalizingly suggested at one point that Bruce Wayne's late father might have opened the door for massive corruption to leak into the city's legislature. Sadly, that moment is walked back.
