The Simu Liu starrer Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of the most successful films in the recent past for the MCU. Earning more than $430 million during the pandemic, the film was lauded for its representation and action sequences. A sequel has been greenlit but there have been no new developments regarding its release.
The post credit scene of Shang-Chi shows Xu Xialing, the sister of Shang-Chi heading the Ten Rings and restarting the training, including women this time in the organization. A recent tweet revealed that the scene would directly lead to the upcoming MCU film Armor Wars, which sees several secret organizations try to steal Tony Stark’s technology.

Marvel Studios has a lineup of projects slated for release or development in the coming years. While progress on most of these projects is clear, one movie has been stuck in development limbo for quite some time, with only sporadic updates emerging. We’re referring to the War Machine movie, ‘Armor Wars.’
‘Armor Wars’ was initially envisioned as a film based on the comic storyline of the same name. It was intended to serve as a sequel to ‘Secret Invasion’ (released last year) and ‘Ironheart’ (whose release date is currently unknown). As far back as 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed the development of a War Machine film, with Joe Robert Cole brought on board to pen the script.
Nine years later, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, it was revealed that the ‘Armor Wars’ TV series is in the works for Disney+, with Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes. In 2021, Cheadle...

Marvel Studios has plenty of projects scheduled either to be released or developed in the next few years. And while for most of the projects, it’s clear at which stage they are currently at one movie has been in development hell for several years now, with mostly bits and pieces coming to light. Iron Man 2 was the third movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the second movie in the Iron Man trilogy. With Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role, the movie features numerous other characters including Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle’s War Machine, and Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer.

There have been numerous instances in which movies have had alternative endings and there are also many scenes that do not make it into the final cut. Iron Man 2 was one such movie. The alternative ending of the movie was a deleted scene in which Don Cheadle’s War Machine has a chance at redemption.

The Iron Man saga has had some of the most iconic villains throughout its run, one of which included the fan-favorite, Sam Rockwell. For one who played the ancillary villain, Justin Hammer, in the second installment of the film series, the then-40-year-old actor did an absolutely remarkable job at intimidating the audiences.
Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2
But as intimidating as he seemed in the 2010 film, Rockwell seems quite the opposite in a recent video that has been going viral on the internet. The video is basically a compilation of some of the now-55-year-old actor’s more goofy moments, which has led to one sudden epiphany hitting fans: Rockwell would have been the perfect Deadpool of the ’90s!

It is an unarguable fact that Sam Rockwell can nail just any role as efficiently as ever.

Sam Rockwell is back on movie screens in Matthew Vaughn‘s latest spy romp, “Argylle,” but what’s next for the actor? A return to a certain MCU role, maybe? Jimmy Fallon addressed rumors that Rockwell will reprise his “Iron Man 2” character Justin Hammer during the actor’s interview on “The Tonight Show” last night. And while Rockwell couldn’t confirm anything, he said he’s “in” if Marvel Studios wants him back.

Marvel Studios has a myriad of projects either scheduled for release or in development over the next few years. Amidst the progress of most of these projects, one film, ‘Armor Wars,’ has lingered in development for several years, revealing only fragments of its status.
Originally envisioned as a movie based on the comic storyline of the same name, ‘Armor Wars’ was slated to be a sequel to Secret Invasion (released last year) and Ironheart (release date unknown). In 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed the development of a War Machine film, with Joe Rober Cole hired as the writer. However, nine years later, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, it was revealed that ‘Armor Wars’ was being adapted into a television series for Disney+, with Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes. In August 2021, Yassir Lester became the head writer for the series.

What if? Season 2, Episode 3, began with the Watcher narrating one of his favorite Yuletide stories from the multiverse of Avengers. On the night before Christmas, the Avengers were seen getting into a fierce fight with a purple-colored Hulk-like monster, who is the real surprise of this episode of What if? In this alternative reality among the multiverse of the Avengers, Happy Hogan accidentally turned into a gigantic, purple-colored Hulk and saved Stark Tech from Tony’s long-standing rival, Justin Hammer. Let’s see how that pans out in this episode.
Spoilers Ahead
How did Justin Hammer hijack the Stark Tech Tower?
As the Watcher continued narrating his favorite Christmas story, we went back to Christmas Eve, when each of the Avengers was busy enjoying their Christmas Eve parties. While Natasha was stuck somewhere with a Hydra agent, Tony and Captain were busy playing Santa and his elf at a Christmas party.

Even with its shortcomings, Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 is the closest the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to realizing the true potential of the multiverse in terms of storytelling. The hope, then, is that the animated series will dispense with the training wheels entirely with its next batch of episodes and really have fun with the concept, rather than restricting itself to re-imagining events from MCU movies and TV shows past. And so far, it appears season 2 will do just that, with an episode inspired by the Neil Gaiman-penned Elizabethan era comic arc "1602" and another one centered on a brand-new character in the form of the Mohawk hero Kahhori.
Of course, there's still plenty of room for new stories featuring old favorites, including treasured supporting players and frequent comic relief sidekicks Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau). Those two specifically will team up in "What If.

At an event last night promoting the upcoming season of its What If…? series, Marvel revealed it has another animated show in the works that’s a spin on classic IP: Eyes of Wakanda.
The reveal was part of a surprise sizzle real presented by Marvel Studios head of streaming, television and animation Brad Winderbaum. Here’s the short logline: “Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story.”
One can imagine the possibilities, especially for the Dora Milaje, the elite group of warriors who serve as the all-female special forces of Wakanda who, in the films, are led by Danai Gurira’s Okoye.
Previously announced animated offerings X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year) were also part of the lineup featured.
Attendees at the event reportedly saw two episodes from What If…? Season 2:

Once upon a time, Roger Ebert held that "no movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad." The Stanton-Walsh rule could be violated, as Ebert noted in his scathing review of the unfathomably awful "Wild Wild West," but you only did yourself a favor if you cast one of these gentlemen. The script could be dire and the direction poor, but an appearance from Stanton and/or Walsh was/is – we lost Stanton in 2017, but Walsh is still going strong at 88 years old — only ever a joyous occasion.
The Stanton-Walsh rule applies to other character actors, and I can't think of many performers who've given me more pleasure over the last few decades than Sam Rockwell. He first popped for me in Tom Dicillo's hugely underrated indie comedy "Box of Moonlight" as a ball of non-conformist energy who...

While audiences are quick to judge a movie or television show based off of a single viewing, most people fail to understand and empathize with the fact that nobody goes through life without making mistakes. So, since fans can relate to such a fact, it shouldn’t be a large surprise when franchises as massive as the MCU occasionally put out a movie that underperforms or includes a character that didn’t meet their potential. With M.O.D.O.K in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania getting a mixed reaction from fans, now’s a good time to check in on other water Marvel villains.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives with a Hulk-smashing weight on its shoulders. Ryan Coogler’s just-released follow-up to the original Black Panther, from 2018, faces the daunting two-for-one challenge of both providing Marvel audiences with the visceral excitement they crave, while also honouring the legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman.
Boseman died from cancer in August 2020 – less than eight months before he was set to reprise the part of heroic T’Challa in the sequel. Hastily rewritten by Coogler, the film now walks a tricky tightrope. It must simultaneously function as homage to Boseman, and open up a new chapter for Wakanda, the fictional superhero kingdom in East Africa.
But if you set aside the tragic loss of Boseman, Wakanda Forever is significant for another reason. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the great achievements of modern filmmaking – weaving together multiple characters and stories across 30 features and counting. Yet, in one respect,...

There’s a new face behind the claws and cowl, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepares to usher in its next era with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Disney’s latest batch of Marvel outings is rounding off in poignant style, with Ryan Coogler’s sequel to 2018’s movie waving goodbye to Phase 4 alongside Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa.
Although most of the Black Panther cast are back for more, the tragic passing of Boseman in 2020 means he’s unable to return for Wakanda Forever. It isn’t just events out of Coogler’s hands that mean characters aren’t suiting up for the war between the Wakandans and Talokan’s, because Daniel Kaluuya’s W’Kabi is also sitting this one out.
Remembering back to Black Panther, W’Kabi was the Head of Security for the Border Tribe, boyfriend of Danai Gurira’s Okoye, and supposed best friend of T’Challa.

Marvel’s “Armor Wars,” originally planned as a TV series for Disney+, is being redeveloped as a feature film, Variety has learned.
“Armor Wars” will star Don Cheadle, reprising his MCU role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine. The project is based on Marvel Comics’ seven-issue arc of the same name within the story of Iron Man, and follows Rhodes as he must face what happens when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands.
Yassir Lester, who was originally set as the series’ head writer, remains attached to write the project.
This is Marvel’s second big shake-up of the week. “Blade” director Bassam Tariq stepped away from the project on Tuesday, just two months before the film was set to begin production, signaling a potential delay from the originally set Nov. 2023 premiere date. However, “Armor Wars” won’t slide into that date — it’s...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of villains. Some of these figures are just everyday people like Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) in "Iron Man 2" or Dreykov (Ray Winstone) in "Black Widow." They are Earthbound human beings who get their power through money and influence rather than superpowers, but then there is the bevy of foes across the various movies and TV shows in this saga who have way more going on than normal human beings. Some of them aren't even human beings at all. Although they range from purple aliens to immortal crime lords, these are the most powerful villains in the MCU — the ones who can wipe out...

This article contains spoilers for What If…? episode 3.
The third episode of Marvel’s What If…? goes in a different direction than the two that preceded it. Instead of switching roles like Captain Carter and T’Challa as Star-Lord, the third episode hides its turning point under a murder mystery. It’s an episode about the Avengers never existing, which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual comic issue What If the Avengers Had Never Been?, but instead turns out more like DC Comics’ Identity Crisis.
In this branch reality, Hope Van Dyne ended up becoming an Agent of Shield. Reading between the lines, she was most likely killed in action by the Winter Soldier (the location she died is the same place Bucky wounded Black Widow). This caused her father Hank Pym to go completely off the deep end. Wearing the Yellowjacket costume, he proceeded to murder Iron Man,...

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6 spoilers.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is over and it ended with one doozy of a post-credits scene. Sharon Carter is back, and she’s apparently flipped on the United States.
At the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 6, Sharon finally gets her pardon. Senator Government Official, the unnamed, definitely not Senator Kelly guy who has been moving the plot forward all show, sits in an extremely insecure presumably Intelligence Committee hearing room and offers Sharon a full pardon, and her old job in intelligence back. She accepts, leaves the hearing, and puts a call into….someone…very excited about her pending access to a wealth of government secrets. She’s up to something.
This isn’t an unprecedented situation, though. Sharon is one of the Marvel Universe’s premiere superspies, up there with Nick Fury...

It is now T-minus one week until the long-awaited premiere of Marvel’s next Disney+ series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, on March 19. To mark the show’s impending arrival, Marvel is ramping up its publicity game and unleashing new trailers and clips of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in action.
In one such clip, released today, Sam shares an interesting theory with his rival/counterpart Bucky. Give it a look below to see what we mean.
“The Big Three – androids, aliens, wizards. Every time we fight, we fight one of the three,” Sam says.
Bucky tries to challenge Sam’s assertion by pointing out there are no wizards. Sam immediately counters with Doctor Strange. “A sorcerer is a wizard without a hat.”
Fair play, Falcon! The conversation ends there but Sam might be onto something with his theory of The Big Three. But just like any good theory,...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a constant state of evolution and expansion, but that doesn’t mean Kevin Feige won’t reach deep into the back catalogue for inspiration. The franchise has a massive 25 film and television projects in various stages of development, and while many of them are casting brand new faces, there are also more than a few relying on some familiar names from the earliest days of Phase One.
The vast majority of the original Avengers are being cycled out in favor of fresh blood with Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk, Riri Williams’ Ironheart and Sam Wilson’s Captain America all on the horizon, but Thor: Love and Thunder will keep the old guard more than well represented.

Don Cheadle is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s longest-tenured supporting players, having made seven appearances in the franchise since replacing Terrence Howard a decade ago. Over the years, there’s been much speculation that Rhodey could have ended up getting his own solo movie, but that’s never materialized, and following the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, there were questions about whether or not the McU really needed him anymore now that Tony Stark is no longer around.
However, at this week’s Disney Investor Day, it was announced that Cheadle will be returning to headline Disney Plus series Armor Wars, which will be loosely based on the seven-issue comic book arc of the same name that ran from December 1987 to June 1988, with War Machine replacing Iron Man as the driving force behind the story.

The great thing about the interconnected storytelling of the McU is that no one’s ever really gone from the franchise for good. They can always turn up again wherever there’s a space for them. Even, say, a popular yet nowadays forgotten villain played by an Oscar-winning actor who hasn’t been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Phase Two.
According to sources close to Wgtc – the same ones that previously told us that the Fast & Furious franchise is headed to space and that Ben Affleck is returning for The Flash, both of which were correct – Marvel plans to bring back Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. We’re hearing he’ll return for multiple projects as the former rival to Tony Stark, who debuted in 2010’s Iron Man 2. And he could be making his first reappearance in the next couple of years.

Tony Stark met his heartbreaking end in Avengers: Endgame, but if there’s a potential return for Robert Downey Jr.’s Armored Avenger in the McU, then fans think it’ll tie into the Illuminati. With the Fantastic Four and the X-Men joining the franchise soon, practically all the members of the secret cabal of superheroes from the comics will be part of the cinematic universe. So, it seems like the Illuminati can’t be far away. And it looks like Marvel have been planning their arrival for a long time. An entire decade, in fact.
Redditor u/sadknickerbockersfan shared on the r/marvelstudios subreddit an easily-missed easter egg that they’ve discovered in 2010’s Iron Man 2. When Stark is at his congressional hearing, he whips out his phone to hack into the monitors being used by Justin Hammer. During this moment, we see the apps and shortcuts Tony has on the device.

Marvel Studios and Netflix once had a very close relationship, though the advent of Disney+ saw the Defenders superhero series cancelled and the companies drifting apart. That’s why it’s interesting that today sees the addition of a cool Marvel cartoon to the Netflix library that many viewers may not have seen. I’m talking about Iron Man: Armored Adventures, a 3D animated show that aired for two, 26-episode seasons in 2009 and 2011.
It was inspired by the then-recent success of Iron Man and has roughly the same tone of the early McU movie. But there’s a twist: this version of Tony Stark becomes Iron Man at just 16-years-old. He ends up in the armor earlier than usual after Howard Stark disappears in a plane crash, with the young Stark suiting up to investigate whether his dad’s partner Obadiah Stane had anything to do with it (spoiler: he did).

Iron Man may have spent a decade as the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of the most popular and iconic characters in all of cinema, but there’s more than a few people that believe Tony Stark was actually the franchise’s greatest threat.
Almost all of the major plot threads in the Infinity Saga can be tied back to Tony in some way, and the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist was directly or indirectly responsible for an alarming number of the McU’s villains. Iron Monger, Aldrich Killian, Whiplash, Justin Hammer, Ultron, Zemo, Vulture, Mysterio and reportedly even Black Widow’s Taskmaster are all tied to his desire for innovation and change, one that clearly doesn’t always go to plan.

Tony Stark may have been the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade and saved the world on countless occasions, but there’s also a school of thought that he was secretly the villain of the entire Infinity Saga without even realizing it. When you think about it, the vast majority of antagonists in the McU represent mirror versions of the heroes, but the head of Stark Industries actually played a hand in the creation of many bad guys that would go on to torment Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for years.
His technology or actions are directly responsible for Iron Monger, Whiplash, Ultron, Vulture, Mysterio, Aldrich Killian, Justin Hammer and Zemo’s personal vendettas against either Stark himself or assorted members of the Avengers, which isn’t a great track record for someone who wants to save lives. Even if he has a self-admitted reckless and narcissistic attitude.

Along with Blade and Bryan Singer’s early X-Men movies, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man redefined and re-established the potential of what comic book films could be, and ushered in the genre’s boom period that’s still going strong two decades on. It wouldn’t be until a few years later though that the upstart Marvel Studios entered the fray and laid the foundations for their groundbreaking shared universe with Iron Man, with the launchpad for the McU being regarded by many analysts as a massive gamble at the time.
An Iron Man solo movie had been in development for nearly a decade at that point as the rights bounced between Universal, Fox and New Line, but it wasn’t until they landed in Kevin Feige’s hands that the ambitious plans for the McU could be put into motion. It’s not quite official yet, but all the signs are pointing to the Thunderbolts coming to the McU. There’s been a ton of evidence to suggest that the team of supervillains press-ganged into doing good by General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross will be set-up in both Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and it’s then believed the gang will star in their own Disney Plus series.
This lines up with We Got This Covered’s own intel as well, with our sources – who told us that Taskmaster would be the villain in Black Widow back in March – also giving us one extra name that isn’t being reported yet as linked to the project but who will almost certainly show up. So far, several characters are being brought up in regards to news of the Thunderbolts, including Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo, Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), U.

The most common criticism of the forthcoming Marvel Studios film Black Widow is that it will launch Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe not by moving the franchise forward beyond the cataclysmic confrontation of Avengers: Endgame, but by looking backward into its own history to tell an intermediate story of a character we’ve already seen make the ultimate sacrifice.
Many have suspected, however, that the retrospective adventure will not simply fill the two-year gap between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but also introduce additional heretofore unknown elements to the overall universe. Now, that conjecture appears to be confirmed as some of the details of Black Widow‘s post-credits scenes have been publicized. The revelations originated on 4Chan, so weigh them with exactly as much credibility as you give to that particular platform, but if you want to experience Black Widow with fresh eyes, turn back now,...

The Thunderbolts have long been a team that Marvel fans want to see in the McU. For those unfamiliar with the concept, they’re essentially the Marvel version of the Suicide Squad – a group of villains and anti-heroes pressed into service for the greater good by General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. With the franchise amassing a whole lot of supercrimials and crooks over the past decade, it would make sense to bring the Thunderbolts to the screen in the next few years. And it looks like that’s indeed the plan.

When Disney acquired Marvel Studios in 2009, it likely knew it had something successful on its hands. But even the Mouse Empire's most optimistic projections likely could have not accounted for this. Marvel's roster of films has grossed approximately eleventy kajillion dollars worldwide, with Avengers: Endgame topping Avatar (also a Disney property now) for highest worldwide box office takings.
Now, just over a decade after its original Marvel deal, Disney is set to bring its Marvel content to an in-house streaming service for the first time ever. When Disney+ launches on November 12, it won't have every Marvel movie ever made. But it will have plenty. And Disney is doubtless working tirelessly to get even more into the fold.

Thor: Love and Thunder will make a big change to the franchise as Natalie Portman is due to return as Jane Foster, but this time Thor’s ex will be Thor herself. As announced at Comic-Con by having the actress walk on stage wielding a replica Mjolnir, Jane will be worthy of holding the hammer in the 2021 movie and become a Goddess of Thunder.
This is easily the most-discussed element of the film, then, but do Jane’s new powers mean that this is Portman’s movie? Definitely not, according to writer/director Taika Waititi. The show will be animated, albeit using many of the actors from the various McU movies. I don’t know about you, but I completely forgot that director Jon Favreau hired Samurai Jack creator Genndy Tartakovsky to do some storyboard work on the action sequences for Iron Man 2. This fact was brought to my attention again thanks to CinemaBlend and after watching Iron Man 2 again, I can totally see Tartakovsky's influence on the film!
I never really thought about it before, but when you watch the film with Tartakovsky's style on your mind, it sticks out like a sore thumb! The way some of the action sequences play out and the choreography are just classic Tartakovsky.
The animation director was trying to get into Marvel Animation back in 2008, but was ultimately told to get a hold of Favreau, who happened to be a big fan of his work. After they met, Favreau brought him on board! In an old interview with AICN, Favreau said:...

Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently shattering records at the box office. People love Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker so much that Spider-Man 3 seems practically inevitable. It’s important to remember, though, that folks thought the same thing about The Amazing Spider-Man franchise not too long ago. In fact, there was actually a time when we thought Andrew Garfield would play the web slinger until 2020.
Clearly, that didn’t pan out, and with only one McU movie left on his contract, some particularly anxious fans are starting to worry that Holland might be destined for the same fate as his predecessor. Producer Amy Pascal, however, has assured those worriers that this won’t happen. In fact, she thinks that a follow-up to the latest Spidey movie with the young star at the forefront is inevitable:
“You know, I don’t think that we’re ready to tell anybody yet.

Avengers: Endgame brought back a ton of familiar faces from the McU that we never imagined we’d see again, but there’s one character from way, way back who fans have wanted to see make a return for a while now and it still hasn’t happened. Of course, we’re talking about Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer, who proved to be a thorn in Tony Stark’s side in Iron Man 2.
Sure, the sequel itself was a bit of a mess, but the actor was a hoot, arguably making Hammer one of the best of all the anti-Stark type villains. Thankfully, then, Marvel still has plans for the character, and they hope to bring him back into the McU sooner rather than later, from what we’re hearing.

Sure, the sequel itself was a bit of a mess, but the actor was a hoot, arguably making Hammer one of the best of all the anti-Stark type villains. Fans of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the films of Keanu Reeves have so far been forced to enjoy both separately, but according to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, Marvel has been trying to recruit Reeves for years.
Speaking this week to Comicbook.com about “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” Feige was asked if Marvel has ever reached out to Keanu for anything.
“We talk to him for almost every film we make,” Feige said. “I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the McU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.” Whoah.

It turns out that’s something we have in common with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, too, who’s revealed that he loves bringing back characters people aren’t expecting. But could this be a hint that he’s going to be pulling the same trick again in the future?
While taking part in his first ever Reddit Ama earlier in the week, Feige was asked if he had any plans to re-use “forgotten” McU characters like Abomination, Justin Hammer and the Leader down the road. The producer didn’t directly answer the question, but did point to a couple of recent times when surprising faces made a return.
