A Christmas Prince
The one that started it all — “A Christmas Prince” was Netflix’s first foray into the Christmas Romance genre, and the 2017 film was such a hit, it essentially put the streamer on the map as a new go-to destination in the market previously dominated by Lifetime and Hallmark. Ever-charming “Ghosts” and “iZombie” star Rose McIver stars as Amber, an ambitious journalist who infiltrates the Aldovian Royalty under the guise of tutoring young Princess Emily...

The leaves are changing and pumpkin spice is on tap, which can only mean one thing: fall is upon us — and with it a bevy of movies that could very well influence this year’s Oscar race and end-of-year lists.
In spite of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA/WGA strike, movies are still coming out. But it will be interesting to see how the dual strike affects promotion, box office and this year’s Oscars race. Regardless, there’s something for everyone. Big awards heavy-hitters like “Maestro” and “Saltburn” will be on film buffs most anticipated lists, while blockbusters like “The Creator” and “Saw X” will charm those just looking for a good time at the movies.
Here are the 30 films TheWrap’s film team is excited to see this fall.

This summer might feel a lot like the summers pre-Covid, if only because from June to August there are several massive movies you’ll want to see in a theater. Starting June 2 with the arrival of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” the summer looks bright and chock-a-block with bombastic features directed by some of the biggest directors out there.
If there’s any trend worth noting about this summer, it’s how franchise-heavy everything is. From a new continuation of “The Meg” to the (final?) installment of “Indiana Jones,” everything has franchise potential, even something like “Barbie” which could start a whole trend of live-action Barbie films.
On top of that, there’s a great combination of IP titles, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the “Mission: Impossible” series, as well as those with tangential connections to established franchises, like how “Last Voyage of the Demeter” is kind of a new Dracula movie.

The horror genre can feel overwhelming for some — it’s full of classics, sure, but also schlock-fests, perfectly average genre exercises and, frankly, more than a few extremely bad knock-offs. But if you’re looking to catch up the essential horror bona fides, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ve put together a list of 25 horror classics that every serious film fan should see, providing a wide range of influential films from 1920 all the way up to 2017.
This is by no means a complete list — there are so many more great horror films to check out. But if you want an entry point to the best of the best, start here.
“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (1920) Decla-Film
Robert Weine’s “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” has been touted as the first true horror film that helped to shape the horror and film noir genre through its dark visual style.

Stephen King’s novels and short stories have been getting the big screen treatment going all the way back to 1976 with the horror classic Carrie. Between movies and miniseries, King’s work has been consistently entertaining and frightening audiences.
But with the massive success of the new version of It in 2017, remakes of his earlier stories have become a priority in the industry. We already got Pet Sematary and It: Chapter Two in 2019 and there’s more to come over the next few years, including a new miniseries of The Stand and updates to The Tommyknockers and Cujo.
Perhaps the most anticipated King adaptation however isn’t a remake, but a sequel to The Shining. Attempting to remake Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece is a daunting task, so director Mike Flanagan decided to continue the story by adapting King’s 2013 follow-up: Doctor Sleep.
And if the first reactions are any indication...

The early returns for “Doctor Sleep,” the upcoming psychological thriller flick from writer-director Mike Flanagan, are in, and in the words of Larry David, they’re “pretty, pretty, pretty good.”
The movie is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 2013 novel of the same name that is also a sequel to his horror classic “The Shining.”
The new film follows an adult Danny Torrance, played by Ewan McGregor, as he works to live a normal life, while still dealing with the lingering effects of what he experienced at the Overlook Hotel as a child. Torrance’s plans go sideways, though, when he bumps into a teenager that shares the “shine” ability and needs his help to fend off some nefarious characters.

The movie hits theaters Nov. 8, but critics that caught a screening this week have been praising it already.

It’s almost inevitable that every valuable property in Hollywood is going to be rebooted eventually, but the producers behind the Terminator franchise seem to be trying especially hard in this regard. The upcoming sixth outing for the series, Terminator: Dark Fate, will be the third hybrid of reboot we’ve seen in ten years, but given that it’s set to be the spiritual successor to James Cameron’s iconic sci-fi sequel Judgment Day, hopes are high that it’ll be a success.
Of course, it’s not like we haven’t had high hopes before only to be incredibly disappointed. After all, both Salvation and Genisys were touted as having the potential to spawn new storytelling opportunities and ultimately, new franchises, but both movies failed to deliver. The potential was definitely there, but each film faltered in its execution as neither McG nor Alan Taylor proved to be...

Though humble peons will have to wait until September 6 to see the final installment of the smash hit Stephen King horror saga, a select group of film critics and lucky audiences have already been treated to an early screening of “It: Chapter Two.” While some say the follow-up to last year’s box-office sweeper pales in comparison to the first, calling it a “tough act to follow,” many praise the movie as “creepy,” and singled out Bill Hader’s performance as scene-stealing and Oscar worthy.
“It: Chapter 2” picks up 27 years after the events of the first movie. The story centers around the grown members of the Losers’ Club returning to their hometown of Derry, Maine, after It/Pennywise comes back stronger and crueler than ever. In addition to Hader in his scene-stealing role, “It: Chapter 2” also stars Jessica Chastain, Xavier Dolan, Jake Weary, and Jess Weixler.

Director Andy Muschietti goes for broke as the lengthy sequel leaves critics with plenty to argue about.
It Chapter Two will probably make a lot of money. People who enjoyed the first one - and there are a lot of them, as It made $700 million+ globally, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of all time - are likely to want to see the sequel, which will close out the decades-long story of the Losers' Club vs. Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Stephen King's book had been previously adapted in 1990, with Tim Curry turning in an iconic performance as Pennywise, and initially there was some uncertainty as to whether a fresh, CG-heavy take was going to be a winner, but the first film successfully swept into cinemas in the later months of 2017, collecting positive reviews, awards, and our cash, ensuring that King's story would be back on the...

Pennywise the Clown is a horror monster like no other.
Similar to the Boggart of Harry Potter, or Room 101 from the George Orwell classic 1984, the character’s a manifestation of your greatest fear(s), be it werewolves or giant, pregnant spiders. And in a few weeks, he – or, rather, It – will creep back into theaters once again for It: Chapter Two.
It’s looking like it’ll be one of the most successful horror films ever as well, far exceeding the box office haul of the first part – for the record, Chapter One did about $700 million worldwide. And to ensure that hype is as high as can be, Warner Bros. and New Line have now allowed for the social media reactions to go live. Unfortunately, though, they’re not terribly positive, with one person even calling it the “biggest disappointment of the year.” Ouch!

The warning signs were there but we didn’t want to believe them, and so when the news broke that Marvel’s Daredevil had been cancelled after three seasons, the internet collectively lost its mind.
After Luke Cage and Iron Fist were dropped in quick succession, many fans feared the start of a larger trend, with a social media campaign even launching just a few days ago for Netflix to renew Matt Murdock’s show for a fourth season, but it seems that such public displays of affection – not to mention the plethora of strong reviews received by the latest set of episodes – weren’t enough to stop the axe from dropping. And now that the announcement has officially been made, the fans have taken to Twitter with their responses, and it’s not a pretty sight:

“Infinity War” may have been the self-proclaimed most ambitious crossover event in history, but it didn’t have Paul Rudd. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” does, however, and that appears to be to its credit. The first wave of reactions to Marvel’s latest has arrived — full reviews will follow next week — and early word is largely positive: It’s been called everything from “fun, funny, and forgettable” to “a damn delight,” with much of the praise going to its post-credits scene.
Ant-man And The Wasp is probably the closest Marvel will ever get to #nicecore. there’s no villain! just… mild impediments. And teamwork! I love teamwork.
