Since its inception with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, MCU has continued to flourish in almost every measure from critical to commercial success, making millions at the box office and gaining recognition on the international market. However, there has been a noticeable decline in the momentum in recent years, attributed to the emergence of superhero fatigue among fans.

X-Men comics have always been about the future. They are, after all, stories about mutants, the next stage in human evolution. The central tension dividing Professor Charles Xavier and his best friend Magneto is how to go into that future, either working with humanity or ruling them.
X-Men comics have also always been very, very confusing, with their frequent tales of clones, shape-changers, and alternate realities.
Given those two facts, it’s no wonder that X-Men creators would embrace time travel as a storytelling conceit, throwing Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants far into the future or launching them deep into the past. The results vary, but these fifteen tales represent the best, and sometimes most headache inducing, of the X-Men’s adventures across time.

The 1990 crossover Days of Future Present is only half an X-Men story, as Franklin Richards is the main character.

From co-directing the pulse-pounding John Wick and seamlessly transitioning to headlining major projects like Deadpool 2, David Leitch’s trajectory in the film is nothing short of remarkable. Playing Brad Pitt’s stunt double in a number of movies, including Fight Club, Leitch began his career in Hollywood as a stunt and fight coordinator.

Not so recently, when the dynamic duo spilled the beans about the casting experience of Deadpool 2, including the role that Brad Pitt almost graced, we got a rare glimpse into the ‘what-ifs’.

Hugh Jackman took a break from saving the world as Wolverine to perform in the musical Les Misérables . But he almost backed out of the feature at the last minute because of the mounting pressure he felt for the movie.
Hugh Jackman almost backed out of ‘Les Misérables’
Jackman felt he had big shoes to fill when he was cast as Jean Valjean in the 2012 musical. There had been several adaptations for Victor Hugo’s 1862 famous novel ever since the story’s inception. ‘…’Wolverine’ has remained ‘adamantium’- tough through mutantkind’s darkest times, but the fall of ‘Krakoa’ breaks him and he retreats to where the Wolverine legend began—the Canadian wilderness, in Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo’s new ‘Wolverine’ ongoing series as part of the ‘X-Men: From The Ashes’ era”:
“…there’s a killer in the woods – and as an attempt at peace is shattered, old enemies re-emerge as an ancient force awakens.

From all the X-Men movies, including the acclaimed "Logan," to animated series like "X-Men '97," Wolverine is one of the biggest fan-favorite Marvel superheroes. With razor-sharp indestructible claws and an accelerated healing factor, James "Logan" Howlett is a killing machine with a conscience, finding his place among the mutant superheroes, the X-Men. Wolverine comes from an especially dark past, however, while his berserker rage and susceptibility to mind control makes him a lethal liability at times. This has led to Wolverine committing several especially heinous acts, some deliberately, across the character's extensive history in comic books, television, and film.
Wolverine may be one of the greatest heroes of the Marvel Universe, but you can bet that his hands are dirty with all the questionable things he's done. Here are the worst things Wolverine has ever done, be it mistakes made in the comics, movies, or beyond, adding to the superhero's conflicted morality and background.

In addition to Havok, Angel, Pyro, Frenzy, and Feral, the new variant covers also reveal two more recruits: reliable X-Man Dr. Cecilia Reyes and Xyber, a new character whose electronic-based powers are essential to the team's covert missions.

Over the past couple of years, several major film directors - including the likes of Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Francis Ford Coppola - have shared a negative opinion of comic book movies, and Thor star Chris Hemsworth has now responded.
The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga actor was asked how he feels about established filmmakers taking shots at Marvel movies during an interview with The UK Times.
“Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?”
To be fair, most of the criticisms seemed to stem more from the perception that comic book films (and huge studio blockbusters in general) may ultimately contribute to smaller, independent and art house movies being erased from the cinematic landscape completely, but the overall quality of...

Jacob Elordi has emerged as a fan-favorite pick to play Gambit in live-action, and this new artwork from 21x4 imagines the Euphoria breakout as the X-Men's Ragin' Cajun with a dark, X-Men '97-inspired twist.
The image gives Elordi Gambit's signature bandana, trench coat and glowing eyes, but with one side of his face faded into a skull. This is a reference to the character's death in episode 5 of the Disney+ animated series, "Remember It."
Gambit hasn't fared very well in live-action so far. Taylor Kitsch made a brief appearance as Remy LeBeau in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while he did a decent enough job with what he had to work with, it wasn't exactly a memorable debut.
Later, Channing Tatum was all set to play another take on the mutant hero in a solo Gambit movie, but the plug was pulled when Disney took over 20th Century Fox's assets.

Romance tropes always play a crucial role in superhero films, as it enriches the plot and adds another layer of complexity to the characters’ personalities. While romance enables its viewers to relate to the film, the superhero genre always struggles to incorporate the ideas in their movies. Such was the case in the original Zack Snyder’s Justice League, until Avengers: Endgame directors approved of the unprecedented idea.
Henry Cavill as Superman in Zsjl
In the DC universe, the rivalry of Batman and Superman stands tall as one of the most iconic and enduring dynamics. The rivalry originates from the clash of ideologies and their take on justice. However, the Rebel Moon filmmaker decided to take their iconic rivalry to another level as he decided to put the Caped Crusader and The Daily Planet’s reporter in a relationship after Superman’s demise in the original plot of Justice League.

What does it look like for Wolverine going forward in X-Men ’97?

Wolverine is the only superhero to have a movie titled after his real name, 2017's "Logan," which we at /Film named the best "X-Men" movie. Somehow, I don't expect we'll ever be getting a Superman movie called "Clark" or a Batman film titled "Bruce." Wolverine's past is shrouded in mystery though; even he doesn't remember most of it. Is "Logan" even his real name? Yes — but it's complicated.
Wolverine was introduced without much context in 1974's "Incredible Hulk" #180 (by Len Wein and Herb Trimpe) when the Hulk makes his way to Canada and tangles with the local hero. Nothing was said about Wolverine's life outside his yellow costume, or if he even had one. When Wein was tasked with rebooting the X-Men in 1975, he reused Wolverine as part of the new line-up; since his introduction was so vague, it was easy to rewrite Wolverine into a mutant. Still, Wolverine remained mysterious,...

‘X-Men ’97’ was an unexpected hit for Marvel Studios. Following a series of flops in 2023 the studio really needed something to restore at least some of the faith that the franchise could be salvaged from a series of bad stories.
In comes ‘X-Men ’97’ a revival of the old ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ Fans were wonderfully surprised when the showrunners managed to keep faithful to the old show with new and modern twists.
One of the most important characters in the first season of the show was of course, Magneto voiced by Matthew Waterson. Matthew recently sat down with Phase Zero to talk about fan response to the show, Magneto stealing Gambit’s girl, and surprisingly, how Magneto would be able to wipe Thanos without too much struggle due to his mutant powers.

‘X-Men ’97’ was a surprising success for Marvel Studios. After several disappointments in 2023, the studio needed something to regain faith in the franchise.
Enter ‘X-Men ’97,’ a revival of the classic ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ Fans were pleasantly surprised as the showrunners stayed true to the original while adding modern twists.
One of the big players in the first season of the show was definitely Magneto, voiced by Matthew Waterson. Matthew chatted with Phase Zero about how fans reacted to the show, Magneto’s romantic entanglements, and even how Magneto could take on Thanos pretty easily thanks to his mutant abilities. They also asked if he’d be into crossing over with other MCU stuff, and his response was pretty cool.

The X-Men are waiting in the wings to make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a project being in active development, and Mister Sinister being rumored to be the villain for the first phase for the mutants. However, Marvel will require some smaller-scale villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to build up to the big bad, and X-Men ’97 might have just given the MCU its first mutant villain.

The most anticipated release in the MCU this year is ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ It marks the franchise’s inaugural installment within the MCU, the first “R” rated movie in the MCU, and the directorial debut of Shawn Levy.
While the initial installment was helmed by Tim Miller and the sequel by David Leitch, it wasn’t unexpected to learn that the third installment would have a different director as well.
Unlike other candidates, Shawn Levy had personal reasons for accepting the opportunity to direct ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In a recent discussion with Empire, Levy revealed that he had missed a great opportunity years ago, one that he regretted declining all this time.
On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3. And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.

Shawn Levy has an impressive list of credits to his name, including Night at the Museum, Free Guy, and Stranger Things. Deadpool & Wolverine will be his biggest movie to date, but it isn't the first time a Marvel project has hit the filmmaker's radar.
Levy worked with Hugh Jackman on Real Steel and Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project, meaning he was already good friends with both actors.
However, before Reynolds pitched him on helming what was then Deadpool 3, Levy had already passed on the chance to take charge of 2013's The Wolverine!

Shawn Levy is an incredible filmmaker and is known for creating out-of-the-box and entertaining features. After helming the Night at the Museum movies to producing Stranger Things, his upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the most anticipated features of recent times. Yet, before Levy was attached to the project, the star of the movie Ryan Reynolds was afraid that the filmmaker would say no.

When Shawn Levy was offered the chance to direct Deadpool & Wolverine, he quickly signed on not just because he loved the character but because of a major regret.
“On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3,” Levy told Empire. “And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.’ And my response was, ‘I’m not gonna f***ing say no, are you kidding? For Levy, the opportunity to direct Deadpool & Wolverine allowed him to make up for turning down The Wolverine a decade prior. “When we were making Real Steel, Hugh was looking to do The Wolverine, and he asked me if I wanted to do it,” Levy said. “And like a moron, I said, ‘No’. Because...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is certainly one of the releases this year that is meant to kickstart great things. First, the movie is Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, something that fans have been asking for, well, since the MCU existed. Second, it’s part of a new strategy that aims to restore at least some of the faith that fans had in the franchise and in the studio.
Third it’s going to feature a large number of cameos and variants, some confirmed and some only rumored.
Early reports regarding the movie claimed that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ will prove vital for the continuation of the MCU due to its Multiversal themes, and the more about the plot we learn, the more this seems likely.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ marks a significant release this year, poised to ignite a new era. For starters, it marks Deadpool’s inaugural venture into the MCU, fulfilling a long-standing wish of fans. Secondly, it’s a key component of a fresh strategy aimed at revitalizing faith in both the franchise and the studio.
Moreover, the film promises a plethora of cameos and variants, with some already confirmed and others swirling in the rumor mill.
Initial reports suggest that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ will play a crucial role in the ongoing narrative of the MCU, particularly because of its Multiversal themes. As details about the plot emerge, this assertion appears increasingly plausible.
Interestingly, while there’s considerable excitement surrounding the film’s release, one question seems to be flying under the radar: what happens next? Once the hype subsides and the theatrical run concludes, what lies ahead for the Deadpool and Wolverine variants?...

Marvel Studios is said to be very close to announcing a writer (or writers) for the long-awaited X-Men movie, and we may know which scribes have emerged as Kevin Feige and co.'s top picks to pen the reboot.
According to Jeff Sneider on the latest episode of The Hot Mic, Rafe Judkins and Michael Lesslie are in the mix to write the script. He believes these two are the finalists to land the gig, but notes that other writers may still be in contention.
Judkins previously worked on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Tom Holland-led Uncharted movie, and more recently served as the showrunner for Amazon’s Wheel of Time adaptation. Lesslie, meanwhile, penned the screenplay for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and 2016's Assassin’s Creed movie.

Marvel Comics is home to several powerhouses. While some have immeasurable raw strength, others are more mystical in nature. We have witnessed both of these to some extent in the MCU, but the horizons of power levels have expanded way beyond our imaginations once the Infinity saga ended and the Multiverse saga began.
A still from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
We have seen glimpses of these kinds of powers in What If…? and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. And in both of them, and even during the Infinity saga, Doctor Strange was perhaps one of the strongest characters on the roster. However, there are other kinds of forces in Marvel that can even overpower the once Sorcerer Supreme.

Shawn Levy's upcoming satirical superhero flick "Deadpool & Wolverine" will star Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the title characters, two bickering vigilantes who have very different approaches to their vigilantism. Wolverine, while impulsive, makes sure he is in the moral right before he activates his switchblade knuckles and begins stabbing bad guys. Deadpool is more of a "shoot first, never ask questions" antihero, painfully aware of his own place in a massive media franchise; Deadpool regularly breaks the fourth wall and lambastes the company that made the film he's in.
Deadpool is also weirdly compassionate when it comes to the people and animals he loves. He will happily decapitate a bad guy and joke about his victim's misery, but then return home to his beloved Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) where they will cuddle, make goo-goo eyes at one another, and engage in sexual acts not usually seen in films produced by the Disney Corporation.

The brand-new issue of Empire – featuring a world-exclusive first look at Deadpool & Wolverine, the summer’s most anticipated blockbuster – is now on sale, folks. And you’ve no doubt already rushed out to your nearest good or evil newsagent, picked up a copy, and pored over every glorious word from Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Shawn Levy, Kevin Feige, and their chums.
But what you won’t have read is how Levy became involved in the project. You might imagine that Levy was asked to come on board as director, producer, and co-writer by his good friend Reynolds, whom he had directed in Free Guy and The Adam Project. And you wouldn’t be entirely wide of the mark on that. “On the set of The Adam Project, Ryan asked me if I would consider doing Deadpool 3,” says Levy. “And I remember him saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no,...

Nobody expected Hugh Jackman to reprise the role of Wolverine when he announced that he had hung up the claws after James Mangold's Logan, and the chances of a third Deadpool movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth seemed pretty slim when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox back in 2019.
Even so, both actors will return as their respective characters for this summer's Deadpool and Wolverine, and fans are wondering if we will see more of Wade and Wolvie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line.
Empire put the question to Reynolds and Jackman during an interview for the latest issue of the magazine.

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" follow.
The goriest moment of "X-Men '97" season 1 will assuredly go down as episode 5, "Remember It," which saw the mutant nation of Genosha wiped out just as it was in the dark "X-Men" comic arc "E is for Extinction."
Episode 9, "Tolerance is Extinction Part 2" just gave it a runner-up though. Magneto, who has returned to his old villain ways, is fighting the X-Men on his new base of Asteroid M. Wolverine, famous for his adamantium-coated claws and skeleton, stabs Magneto. Undeterred, Magneto uses his powers to tear out the adamantium from Wolverine's body.
This bit, like most of the episode, is taken from 1993 "X-Men" comic crossover event "Fatal Attractions." The episode ends with a shot recreating a panel from "X-Men" #25 (drawn by Andy Kubert) of liquified adamantium heeding Magneto's call and pouring out of Wolverine's battered body. Writer Peter David first suggested this as a joke,...

After an exciting, often shocking run of episodes, the season 1 finale of X-Men '97 hits Disney+ next Wednesday, and (former) showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared some "homework" for fans who might want a cryptic hint about what to expect from "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3."
Spoilers for last week's episode and (potentially) Wednesday's instalment follow.
DeMayo posted an image from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5, episode 18, "Cause and Effect." This episode of the beloved sci-fi series saw the crew of the Enterprise caught in a time-loop, with the ship being destroyed over and over again, and Picard, Riker, Data and co. having to figure out how to reset the anomaly.
Does this suggest that the X-Men will find themselves in a similar situation? "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2" certainly left the team in dire straits, with Jean Grey killed(?) by a Mr. Sinister-controlled Cable, and Wolverine's Adamantium...

Hell broke lose in late 2022 when it was announced that Liam Hemsworth would be replacing Henry Cavill in The Witcher, and season 3 would serve as Cavill’s swansong from the IP. This led to a not-so-small portion of the fandom reviewing bombing season 3 upon its premiere, with some even stressing that the show should end with Cavill’s departure.
But despite the pushback from the fans, Netflix has persisted with its decision and greenlit two more seasons for The Witcher, and the filming for the fourth one began not very long ago. And the new leak from the sets has given fans how Hemsworth’s Witcher would appear in the show, which has failed to impress fans of the series.

It was in 2021 when rumors of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home turned out to be true. Well, a similar situation has now arisen with Deadpool & Wolverine but this time it’s… what? (let me check my notes).
So, there have been rumors that Ben Affleck will appear in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine as a Marvel superhero. As bizarre as this sounds, a notable insider was quick to debunk this rumor.

Ben Affleck Joined The MCU After Justice League?
As funny as it sounds, the reality is something different. Having portrayed the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s Dceu for 3 movies, fans had familiarized Batman with Affleck… until his departure from the Dcu.

This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97
X-Men ’97‘s Episode 9 saw Wolverine and Magneto play out one of their most brutal battles from the comics, which ended with Magneto ripping out the adamantium from Wolverine’s skeleton, leaving him on the brink of death. While this might be bringing a world of hurt to the character, the trajectory that is being set for the story might be great news for those who miss the X-Men’s resident Cajun.
Wolverine in X-Men ’97
Remy LeBeau tragically lost his life during the Sentinel assault on Genosha, which claimed the lives of a significant amount of mutants. In the most recent episode of the show, Wolverine found himself similarly indisposed after Magneto crippled the elder mutant. Given that these two characters become Horsemen of Apocalypse, a theory suggests it is quite possible it is something X-Men 97 is setting up.
