CinemaCon attendees Wednesday got a first look at Focus Features’ second film with Robert Eggers, Nosferatu, a dark and gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her which causes untold horror in its wake.
Introducing the footage, Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said, “This ain’t your father’s Nosferatu” and promised it will give “new meaning to the term Christmas feast when we open on December 25.”
In the footage, we see the terror and hysteria rampant in the village as various townsfolk shriek, “He is coming” after the young woman calls to him seemingly in a nighttime trance. “My dreams grow darker,” she says, and asks Willem Dafoe’s Professor Von Franz, “Does evil come from within us, or from beyond?”

Robin Williams’ Mrs. Doubtfire is one of the most iconic family-comedy features ever. The 1993 film was a massive hit amongst critics and audiences. According to director Chris Columbus, he also planned the sequel to the 1993 classic, and the late Williams even agreed to return to it. However, Columbus soon dropped the idea of the sequel after Williams tragically passed away in 2014.
Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire
Over the years, Hollywood has seen several director-actor duos who get attached after working on a project. Mrs. Doubtfire was such a project for Chris Columbus and Robin Williams. The Harry Potter director revealed that they became close friends after the film and spent almost every weekend together having fun. He cannot even imagine a sequel without the late actor.
Chris Columbus can never even think about Mrs. Doubtfire 2 A still from Mrs. Doubtfire
Mrs. Doubtfire was an incredible project for everyone working on the film.

The Curse of Oak Island team arrives in Italy and the Netherlands this week to research the route the Templar Knights may have taken while transporting treasure from the Holy Land to Oak Island.
Also, this week, the guys uncover a surprising artifact on Lot 5 that could date back to the medieval era.
Rick Lagina, Alex Lagina, and Doug Crowell have been spreading their wings in recent seasons with trips across the Atlantic, and this time, they’re off to a castle in the Netherlands and a medieval abbey near Milan, Italy.
The guys hope to find evidence that in the 13th century, the Templar Knights secretly transported religious artifacts and other treasures from Jerusalem across Europe and onward to Oak Island.
The team is being led by researcher Corjan Mol, who has discovered a Templar-built castle. He says it features symbols found on and near Oak Island.
A preview suggests that Corjan is accurate,...

There’s nothing IndieWire loves more than directors talking about their favorite movies. So, of course, we took notice when, in late 2023, Turner Classic Movies started looping in directors to share their favorites from TCM’s lineup each month: Steven Spielberg’s TCM picks kicked things off, then Martin Scorsese waxed rhapsodic about “Madonna of the Seven Moons,” and Guillermo del Toro gushed about the greatness of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Suspicion.”
Now Chris Columbus is sharing his own TCM picks, along with some especially insightful anecdotes. Watch the video above.
Columbus starts off sharing his love of “Singin’ in the Rain”: “An amazing, almost flawless movie. You can say that about very few movies. I showed ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ to my 16-month-old granddaughter who was absolutely absorbed in the musical numbers. Moreso than any Disney animated films. I go back to it once or twice a year.

If Sergio Leone had ever signed on to make one of those ‘70s Blaxploitation oaters that once provided steady employment for Fred Williamson, it likely would have looked and sounded much like “Outlaw Posse,” a wildly uneven but cumulatively entertaining shoot-‘em-up that finds Mario Van Peebles doing triple duty as director, screenwriter and star. Quadruple duty, actually, if you count his credit as an executive producer.
“Outlaw Posse” has nothing to do with Van Peebles’ previous entry in this genre, 1993’s wild and woolly “Posse,” which suggests the multitasking filmmaker is tipping his Stetson to the multitude of ‘60s Spaghetti Westerns that, ahem, borrowed titles and eponymous characters from better known yet totally unrelated horse operas. But, then again, maybe not. Indeed, the film will probably be enjoyed most by folks not given to undue consideration of such trifling matters as lineage, logic and arrant anachronisms.

Today, Universal/Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy‘s is clocking past the $100M domestic mark, a box office milestone for the studio when it comes to its experimental theatrical day-and-date releases on its Peacock streaming service.
That’s not only the highest that Uni has seen from a pic that’s been distributed via such means at the box office, but it’s also per the conglom the most viewed movie or series ever for the Ott paid service in its first five days, outstripping the debuts of Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bel-Air and The Best Man: The Final Chapters.
Among those day-and-date theatrical releases which played simultaneously on streaming services, Freddy‘s crosses the $100M mark in eight days, the second-fastest type of dynamic release to do so after Marvel Studios’ Black Widow which did it in six days while streaming on Disney+ back in...

Spider-Man is one of those characters that has inspired generations of artists in multiple fields, from writers to actors to directors and more. Peter Parker (and several of his Spider-counterparts) has to deal with just being a kid while also keeping his superhero identity secret from his friends and family. He's a little tortured, tries to do the right thing, and serves as an aspirational figure for many of us. From a 2023 vantage point, we've seen a whole lot of films about the web-slinger, both animated and live-action, but before 2002's "Spider-Man," directed by Sam Raimi, that wasn't the case.
There were several directors up for the job before Raimi got it, and one of them was Chris Columbus, who directed the first two "Harry Potter" films. As a contender for the Spider-Man director's chair, Columbus made a lot of sense. The filmmaker has a way with directing kids, and...

Actor Rosario Dawson couldn’t have been happier to land her lead role in Rent. Dawson was passionate about the project since first hearing about it. But she was worried that wanting the role so badly might have worked against her favor when pursuing the role.

Dawson felt her chances might have been slim to score one of the leading roles in the 2005 feature Rent. The musical film was an adaptation of a famous play of the same name, and was directed by Harry Potter filmmaker Chris Columbus.
Many of the actors who appeared in the play would return for the Columbus feature to reprise their roles in the film. Dawson was one of the few actors who would be a fresh face on the project if she was selected. It was a fact she was well aware of,...
