More photos from the set of The Witcher season 4 have been shared online, and this time we have an actual first glimpse of Liam Hemsworth suited-up as Geralt of Rivia!
The recent third season of Netflix's fantasy adventure series was original Geralt actor Henry Cavill's last, as the Man of Steel star announced his decision to part ways with the streamer's adaptation of the best-selling novels back in 2022.
Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will take over as the titular monster hunter from season 4 on, and a recent photo from the set featured his stunt-double Joel Adrian in-costume. Adrian looked enough like Hemsworth to fool a lot of people, but these snaps spotlight the man himself.
The photos show Hemsworth as Geralt doing battle with Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), and appear to be recreating a scene from season 3 which saw the mage emerge victorious. There is also one shot of Geralt...

Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes marks a significant departure from its predecessors by integrating complex human stories with the ongoing saga of apes. The film centers on Freya Allan’s portrayal of Mae, a young woman navigating a post-apocalyptic world dominated by intelligent apes. Allan’s performance has been widely praised for its emotional depth and complexity. As the sole significant human character, Mae’s interactions with Owen Teague’s Noa and other ape characters bring new dimensions to the narrative. From Feral to Key Player Initially introduced as a seemingly feral human, Mae quickly proves her intelligence and strategic

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has had fans of the franchise hooked ever since its release. The film acts as a fresh take on the iconic film series, following a world long after the events of the War of the Planet of the Apes. It also has an exceptional cast of actors, as well as Wes Ball as its director.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
The film paid homage to the original Planet of the Apes in many ways, having several scenes reminiscent of the classic. While many fans thought this would end their affair, the director seems to have other intentions. Could the Charlton Heston classic get a sequel almost 60 years after its release?
A Revival of the Planet of the Apes?
Wes Ball recently gave an interview with IndieWire, where he talked about his recently released film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Apes box office strong!
20th Century Studios/Disney's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is off to a great start at the global box office after exceeding expectations with a $130M+ opening weekend.
Despite positive reviews, the latest Apes adventure received a disappointing "B" CinemaScore, which suggested that audiences may not be quite as taken with the movie as the majority of critics. Even so, Kingdom managed to take $58.5 million in North America and $72.7 million overseas for a worldwide start of $131.2 million.
This puts the film ahead of Sunday’s domestic estimates of $56.5 million to give it the third-best opening of the year to date, as well as the second-best launch of the franchise after Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes back in 2014.
The movie has a reported budget of $160 million.

On May 10, 2024, 20th Century Studios released “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” written by Josh Friedman and directed by Wes Ball. The sequel to 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes” is the fourth installment of this reboot franchise and stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon and William H. Macy.
Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike. The highly anticipated blockbuster is a hit with critics and audiences alike, with the critics consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reading, “Carving out a new era for ‘The Planet of the Apes’ with lovable characters and rich visuals, ‘Kingdom’ doesn’t take the crown as best of the franchise but handily justifies its continued reign.

Monday Am: These apes are going to need a bigger boat for their cash that is as 20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes came in over expectations with a $58.5M opening. Sunday came in at $16.5M, down 19%, a strong attributable to Mother’s Day. Who knew moms were fans of the Planet of the Apes movies? Typical Mother’s Day Saturday to Sunday drops are around the -28% range.
That’s now the third highest opening for an Apes movie after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6M) and Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes ($68.5M). Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes only cost $160M, which is cheaper than Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes which cost $190M before P&a. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is now playing in theaters, which means key plot details have begun to find their way online.
In a new interview with THR, star Freya Allan (Mae) discusses the ending and how the original conclusion played out in far less subtle - and quite a bit darker - fashion.
Major spoilers follow.
During the climactic battle, Mae makes a fateful decision to blow open the floodgates and destroy the human tech the villainous Proximus was trying to get his hands on, killing hundreds of apes in the process.
“It’s not what she wants to do," Allan explains. "But it’s that, or Proximus has all these weapons and humanity is screwed. She’s gone through so much, she’s lost all the people she cares about, which was a large part of how I justified everything that she did,” Allan says. “So...

Freya Allan is currently being praised for her standout role in this weekend's new release, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. However, many of you will know the actress best for her breakout role in The Witcher.
The Netflix series lost Henry Cavill at the end of season 3 and, after Blood Origin bombed, the next two seasons will be shot back-to-back, ending with a fifth and final batch of episodes (plans for another spin-off, The Rats, have been scrapped).
Talking to Inverse (via SFFGazette.com), Allan - whose role as Ciri put her on the map before being cast in the latest Apes movie - revealed why she's ready to move on from the Continent.
"The Witcher definitely set up a lot for me, just in terms of being my drama school and providing me with a certain level of confidence," the actress said. "You also learn so many random skills.

Those ticket sales were above Sunday’s projections of $56.5 million domestically and $129 million worldwide. Overseas, the movie enjoyed the biggest start in China with $11.4 million (a lackluster debut for the territory), France with $7.1 million, Mexico with $6.4 million and the United Kingdom with $4.8 million. Other top markets were Korea ($3.2 million), Australia ($2.7 million), Brazil ($2.6 million), Germany (2.2 million) and Spain ($2.2 million).
Audiences opted to watch the film in the best possible quality as premium formats represented 41% of global box office revenues.

Updated: Primates ruled over the North American box office, as “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” collected $58.5 million in its first weekend of release.
That’s ahead of Sunday’s estimates of $56.8 million and enough to score the third-best opening of the year behind “Dune: Part Two” ($82 million) and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” ($80 million).

Planet of the Apes is one colossal franchise in cinema history. It all started in 1968, kicking off a series of successful sequels, later the franchise received a reboot by Tim Burton in 2001. Though that one got mixed reviews, it set the stage perfectly for what Wes Ball has now delivered. Burton’s film introduced audiences to the Andy Serkis series, which has since solidified its own reputation and garnered immense popularity.

Spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" follow.
Koba (Toby Kebbell) from "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is the best blockbuster villain of the 2010s. One of Caesar's (Andy Serkis) sapient apes, first introduced in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," Koba was a lab animal in a previous life. The brutal treatment left him scarred (both skin-deep and deeper) and hateful towards humans. In "Dawn," finally in a position to strike back, he attempts to assassinate Caesar so he can lead his misanthropic war.
Koba is much like Magneto, perennial foe of the X-Men, and another figure who believes peace with humanity is impossible because of his past trauma. It's not a one-to-one comparison, though, because Magneto is more noble than Koba. Magneto has done evil, but his goal is the prosperity of mutantkind. For Koba, the violence is the point; he wants humans to suffer,...

Despite an overall positive reception from both critics and fans, 20th Century Studios' latest Apes movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has received one of the worst CinemaScores of the franchise.
The Wes Ball-directed sci-fi adventure is now certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 80% (the audience score is also 80%), but has still only managed to secure a disappointing "B" CinemaScore.
For those unfamiliar with this particular system, a B may not sound too bad, but it's rare enough for a major studio blockbuster to fall below an A-, and it also marks the worst CinemaScore of the franchise since Tim Burton's disastrous 2001 remake.
Ultimately, this shouldn't have too much of a negative impact on the film's box office. Cinemagoers do tend to pay some attention to these scores, but not nearly as much as a green splat on Rotten Tomatoes, for example.

Ultimately, this shouldn't have too much of a negative impact on the film's box office. Cinemagoers do tend to pay some attention to these scores, but not nearly as much as a green splat on Rotten Tomatoes, for example.

Although Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, it takes places hundreds of years later, so the film’s cast is all new, featuring The Witcher’s Freya Allan in its primary human role. As a young woman who partners with a chimpanzee on a hunting mission, Allan’s character is involved in plenty of the film’s action. And, although she had the option of using stunt doubles during the filming, Allan insisted on doing as many of her own stunts as she reasonably could. After seven years and a change in ownership, the Planet of the Apes franchise returns in an all-new setting. Set generations after the previous film, War for the Planet of the Apes, the new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie follows a new protagonist in a world where human civilization is a forgotten memory.
Director Wes Ball takes over from Matt Reeves, who helmed the previous two films. In what is meant to be the start of a possible new trilogy, it will have to fight an uphill battle compared to its predecessors. Does it stay faithful to the source mercurial, or does it veer off course? Let’s find out.

At the end of the "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," Mae (Freya Allan) returns to the Eagle-raising ape clan to say farewell to Noa (Owen Teague), telling him that humans should be allowed to return to their position as the dominant species. Noa tells her that doing so would stifle the freedom the apes are currently experiencing. The metaphorical genie can't be put back in the bottle, so to speak. But then the audience sees that she's holding a gun behind her back. It's a chilling moment reinforcing the tyrannical Proximus Caesar's belief that Mae is looking out for humans and no one else. It's a shock to the system considering everything the two have been through, and it also leaves the ending up to interpretation. Was she there to kill him? Was the gun a...

Planet of the Apes franchise is not going to end its run with the fourth film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The producers recently revealed in an interview that the original plan for the franchise was to do nine films. Although many expected the films to drop significantly in quality by this time, the films are surprisingly maintaining a regular good standard. However, fans still believe that aiming for nine films might be stretching the luck of the films.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the fourth installment in the modern Planet of the Apes franchise
The latest film in the franchise was the first one not to feature Andy Serkis in the role of the intelligent chimpanzee. It starred Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, and William H. Macy. The film is written by Josh Friedman and directed by Wes Ball.

The following contains spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
It's been 7 years since "War of the Planet of the Apes" brought to an end the story of Caesar the first ape capable of speech, who led a revolution and forever changed the world. Now, we're entering a new chapter in the "Planet of the Apes" saga with "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," set generations after the events of the previous film.
The movie follows Noa (Owen Teague), a member of the Eagle Clan who witnesses that entire clan being conquered and taken captive by a tyrannical king named Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand). When Noa sets out to free his people, he joins forces with Raka (Peter Macon), an orangutan from the Order of Caesar, and a human named Mae (Freya Allan) who is also on the run from Proximus' apes.

Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" stands on the shoulders of the most recent trilogy that came before it and the legacy of fallen chimpanzee leader, Caesar (Andy Serkis). That trilogy contains some of the strongest entries in the entire series, which meant Ball's venture had huge shoes to fill. Fortunately, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" has already proven to be a critical hit, which has many thinking it could be the start of another trilogy.
Taking place hundreds of years after the events of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," and "War for the Planet of the Apes," all of the events are inching audiences closer and closer to 1968's "Planet of the Apes" set in the year 3978, where a human astronaut crash-lands on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes, unaware that the planet is...

After a seven-year break, the "Planet of the Apes" franchise has finally returned with a new installment, one that takes us much further than seven years into the future. Director Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" takes place centuries after the Caesar trilogy in the overall timeline, with apes now firmly the dominant species on the planet. So yes, there is a new ape villain at the center of the proceedings in the form of Proximus Caesar (played by Kevin Durand). However, the film's real villain was hidden pretty well in the marketing -- even though right there the whole time.
The film sees Noa (Owen Teague) seeking out the sect of apes led by Proximus, who annihilated his home, killed his father, and kidnapped Noa's clan. Along the way, he and his...

Many generations after the events of the last film, the society left behind means apes now rule, and humans are the sub species. Noa (Owen Teague as a full CGI ape) is part of a tribe who raise birds for hunting and lives in peace. That peace is upended by Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand), King of the Coastal Apes, who accumulates power by destroying other tribes and using the human’s old war technology against his species. When Noa’s tribe becomes victims of destruction, the young ape seeks his revenge with the help of a evolved human named Nova (Freya Allan).

The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is finally here, and both fans and critics have had the opportunity to voice their opinions on the movie and will be able to do it in the upcoming weeks. The Planet of the Apes reboot franchise has been one of the most successful reboots in history, with the new trilogy becoming a critical and commercial success. Now, a new trilogy set 300+ years after the first one is in the works, and it seemed that 20th Century Studios was taking a big risk with this new trilogy, but as things stand now – the risk had paid off!
Namely, as per the earlier critics’ reviews, the film has already been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 82% rating after 164 reviews. The fans are also very satisfied with the movie, as it seems, with the movie having an identical rating among fans as well.

Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" isn't a reboot of the beloved franchise, nor is it a direct sequel to the most recent trilogy, but instead a standalone sequel set hundreds of years after the time of Caesar, the evolved patriarchal leader played by Andy Serkis. Caesar in this series differs from the character played by Roddy McDowell in the original, as this version sees apes and humans as unlikely equals rather than inherently viewing the latter as subservient, and even lets fellow ape Koba fall to his death for ruining the chance for apes and humans to have peace.
Humans are being ravaged by the simian flu, a condition that allows the apes to flourish from an evolutionary standpoint but wipes out a majority of humanity. Those that survive due to genetic immunity splinter into small communities,...

Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is not just an ape story like the Caesar-led Apes trilogy of the 2010s. Kingdom is just as much a human story, and Freya Allan’s Mae is the human in that equation. Centuries after Caesar’s (Andy Serkis) death, Mae first crosses paths with Owen Teague’s young chimpanzee, Noa, as she attempts to survive in the wilderness alone. However, she inadvertently leads Proximus Caesar’s (Kevin Durand) coastal clan of hostile apes to Noa’s village, and the communal home of his Eagle Clan is subsequently destroyed, while many of his fellow apes and family members are either slaughtered or abducted.
Noa narrowly survives the attack and makes the trek to the coast in order to rescue his loved ones, before encountering a wise orangutan named Raka (Peter Macon). Together, they...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has started off its domestic box office run with a promising $6.6 million in previews for 20th Century and Disney. Some of that money, or $1.6 million, came from a special fan event mid-week, while $5 million came from regular Thursday evening previews.
Wes Ball directed the event pic, and has drawn praise from critics for taking good care of one of Hollywood’s enduring franchises. The preview number suggests the film should be able to achieve, if not exceed, the $50 million to $55 million opening predicted by tracking. The original Planet of the Apes was classic ’60s science fiction in the sense that it was focused on its central theme of man’s misuse of the planet and how easily nature could turn against us, but not necessarily on interesting plot or dialogue to carry its ideas to far beyond its natural borders. It was too in love with its own metaphor for that.
The recent returns to the story, focused on the years between the collapse of human society and the rise of the ape society that replaced it, have traveled in the opposite direction, offering only surface-level attention to those themes to support more complex character-based conflicts—a choice that has made them both more and less like their forebears.

Up until 2023, The Witcher was one of the best book-based storylines ever transformed into a live-action series, and one of the biggest reasons behind its tremendous success was Henry Cavill’s effortless performance as the Geralt of Rivia. But then Cavill was replaced, with Liam Hemsworth becoming the new protagonist of the lore — though not without earning much backlash from fans.

Following somewhat tepid entries to the series with 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, director Wes Ball assumes the reigns of the franchise from Matt Reeves and succeeds in resuscitating the dormant franchise with a new vigor and excitement that makes the new entry to the series – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – an incredibly rewarding trip to the cinema.

This article contains Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes spoilers.
The penultimate scene in Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes might be its most important. The chimpanzee they call Noa (Owen Teague) and the young human woman he learns is Mae (Freya Allan) stand at a crossroads for their characters and their species. Despite Noa generally disliking humans, or “echoes,” for their smell and their ignorance, he’s grown attached to Mae, perhaps not least of all because she’s revealed herself to be as intelligent as an ape—if not more so.
Yet Mae, as we learn over the course of the movie, not only retains the intelligence of the species that once dominated this planet but is also the daughter of a thriving remnant of human civilization—men and women who keep the history of what the world was before the Simian Flu reduced us to cattle.

The Planet Of The Apes franchise has seen five feature films from the original movies, one from Tim Burton in 2001, a successful prequel series starring the amazing Andy Serkis, a live-action television series, an animated Saturday morning series, comic books, trading cards, action figures, you name it.
50 years ago in 1974 20th Century Fox came up with the clever idea to offer all five movies at once to select movie theaters, and program them together as a “Go Ape!” movie marathon.
Inventive marketing at the time, the films starred the incomparable Roddy McDowall, who played Cornelius and Caesar, in 4 out of the 5 movies. All the movies can now be found on streaming services.
In 2024, Pota fans were offered the chance to see the film on May 8th at the special Fan Event and “Go Ape” again!

[The following story contains mild spoilers for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.]
With strong reviews and a projected opening weekend as high as $145 million worldwide, Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is poised to carry out a successful relaunch of the Apes franchise. The film picks up right where Rupert Wyatt and Matt Reeves’ reboot trilogy left off with War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), as Ball depicts Caesar’s (Andy Serkis) funeral before jumping multiple centuries ahead to a time where Caesar has become the stuff of legend.
In 2019, after his three Maze Runner films grossed nearly $1 billion on a $156 million spend, Ball was days away from production on 20th Century Fox’s Mouse Guard adaptation, but then the Disney-Fox merger abruptly canceled his ambitious mocap-centric project that counted Reeves and Serkis as producer and actor, respectively. However, later that year, Ball got a call from 20th’s longtime president of production,...
