“I’m nervous,” I tell her.

True, but this time is different. I am about to interview Smart while I’m pretending to be Marc Malkin and she’s pretending to be Deborah Vance.
Spoiler alert: I make a cameo as myself in the Season 3 premiere of “Hacks.”
“Do you want to run lines?” Smart asks me.

Bachelorette Season 21 brings some differences for Jenn Tran’s edition compared to previous shows. The most obvious difference is that she’s the first Asian lead on ABC. Rachel Lindsay, the first Black lead on the show felt that it was about time for more diversity.
One Difference Is That Jenn Tran Won’t Film In The Bachelor Mansion
When Joey Graziadei sent Jenn home from The Bachelor, ABC fans immediately suspected that she would be the first Asian lead in the season after Charity Lawson. Still, it was only when the news arrived that Daisy Kent wouldn’t be the next lead, that Jenn was confirmed. So, Bachelor Nation fans can tick off that difference. Of course, many fans felt thrilled for her, but not everyone felt she was the ideal candidate.

Update: Following the panel, the producers spoke with Decider about what had happened on stage. “I was there for Matt James’ season. I was there for Rachel Lindsay’s season. I was also there for Michelle Young’s season, Tayshia Adams’ season, Charity Lawson’s season,” Graebner said. “I think as stewards of this franchise, which has been such a part of the cultural zeitgeist for over two decades, there’s a tremendous responsibility to have conversations on camera that are difficult and challenging — conversations about race, conversations about class, conversations about gender. We have done that. Have we always done it perfectly? No. We’ve certainly made some mistakes along the way. But moving forward we’re going to do everything in our power to correct this.”

The Bachelor producers froze Saturday when asked at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour about why the franchise seemingly has a hard time handling racial issues.
During a panel featuring showrunners from Jeopardy, Dancing With the Stars and Shark Tank, NPR’s Eric Deggans polled Bachelor producing trio Jason Ehrlich, Claire Freeland (both newcomers) and franchise veteran Bennett Graebner about why former star Rachel Lindsay and Matt James were both critical about how the Warners-produced franchise talks about race.
Freeland, who joined the Warner Bros. TV-produced Bachelor franchise in January 2023, attempted a response by saying that the show’s goal is to “represent the country” before shifting away from the question. Deggans, a respected veteran journalist and TCA member, then reiterated the question in a more direct fashion. At that point, all three producers remained mum for around 10 seconds, creating one of the more awkward moments of press tour.

The Bachelor producers were faced with a tough question about the franchise’s history of issues surrounding race during an ABC panel at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
“Why does it seem like The Bachelor has such a hard time dealing with racial issues? And have you learned anything from these past scandals that have led to the departure of Chris Harrison?” Eric Deggans, a TV critics and media analyst from NPR, asked executive producers Bennett Graebner, Jason Erlich and Claire Freeland.
Freeland, who joined the franchise from The Bachelor Canada last year, took on the task of answering.
“I mean, I can speak to where we are now. Our goal is to represent the fabric of the country, not just with respect to diversity and ethnicity, but also ability, body types… I think so far we are putting our money where our mouth is,” Freeland said.

“The Bachelor” producers were left speechless when asked why the ABC dating show seems to struggle with race during seasons headlined by Black leads.
The question was asked during a panel for ABC’s unscripted television programming during the Television Critics Association’s 2024 winter tour. Eric Deggans, a TV critic and media analyst for NPR, referenced Matt James’ season of “The Bachelor,” which eventually led to Chris Harrison stepping down as the series’ longtime host and featured a conversation with James’ father that the reality star has said was “troubling” and “painful,” and that was criticized by former “Bachelorette” lead Rachel Lindsay. Harrison stepped away from the franchise after defending a contestant who attended a plantation-themed fraternity formal on social media. James was the first Black Bachelor in the history of the long-running reality show.
Initially, when asked why the franchise has struggled with race, producer Claire Freeland fielded the question.

Bryan allegedly filed divorce papers, which were obtained by The Blast.
In the papers, he listed their date of separation as the last day of the year: December 31, 2023. He is requesting spousal support from Rachel, but they have no children so any custody or child support issues won’t factor in here.
He also is addressing their shared house in California, saying that is “community property.”
A few years back, Bryan spoke about the key to their marriage.

Longtime Bachelor franchise host Chris Harrison is speaking out following his controversial exit from the show following allegations of racism made against him during an interview.
On a podcast appearance Trading Secrets, which is hosted by Bachelor Nation alum Jason Tartick, Harrison talked about what happened.
“What I went through was tumultuous. I don’t wish it on anybody,” Harrison said. “It was horrifying on a lot of levels and something that I pray to God my worst enemy never goes through.”
“But, with that said, I knew I had to remove myself from what became a very toxic situation,” he added.
Harrison said he was proud of his decision.
Despite his qualms, Harrison is still very appreciative of his time on the show, saying that it changed his life for the better.

If you've been struggling without the likes of Luann de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan on The Real Housewives of New York City, then we have just the show for you.
The former stars of the reality TV staple are joining forces for the fourth season of The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip.
Appropriately titled "Rhony Legacy," the season brings back de Lesseps, Morgan, Dorinda Medley, Ramona Singer, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, and Kristen Taekman.
"The ladies are jetting off to Saint Barthélemy for "an epic adventure of a lifetime," Peacock teases in the description.
If you watch The Real Housewives of New York City online, you'll recognize their new digs as the same house they stayed at during Rhony Season 5.
Peacock has also confirmed that the first three episodes will drop on Thursday, December 14, with new episodes dropping weekly following that big premiere.
The promo dropped during BravoCon, which featured the cast sans Singer.

If anyone was going to have something substantive to say about Bethenny Frankel’s current campaign against Bravo and the Real Housewives franchise, it was going to be her former Real Housewives of New York castmates. But when asked about the Frankel’s attempted “takedown” of the franchise by a fan during a panel for Ultimate Girls Trip: Rhony Legacy, moderator Michael Rapaport shot the question down.
“Does this look like a fucking takedown,” asked Rapaport, pointing to the crowded convention center ballroom, before shouting, “Next!”
Rapaport, an actor who recently appeared in a pickle costume on The Masked Singer, was introduced at the top of the panel as a “ginormous Bravo fan.” His moderation did not seem to get a surplus of love from the audience. He was booed for cutting off a second audience question — not that any of them were remotely contentious. Before moving on from the Frankel moment,...

Andy Cohen has landed some great “gets” on his late-night talk show “What Watch Happens Live!” over the years: Meryl Streep, Mariah Carey and Oprah Winfrey, just to name a few. But one guest Cohen regrets turning down was Meghan Markle, the duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry.

If you're not already watching "The Golden Bachelor," consider this your sign to hop on the bandwagon immediately. I was initially hesitant to start the ABC dating series, which follows 72-year-old Gerry Turner's journey as the Bachelor franchise's oldest leading man. But after weekly pleas from a coworker, I finally pressed play on the premiere, and I'm so glad I did.
My reluctance to start "The Golden Bachelor" primarily stemmed from my love-hate relationship with the Bachelor franchise as a whole. I spent more hours than I'd like to admit watching everyone from Rachel Lindsay to Peter Weber fall in love, but I stopped tuning in two years ago after becoming fed up with the show's continuous controversies and watching former host Chris Harrison try to sweep racism under the rug. Also, I'll be real: the idea of a senior citizen dating show just didn't sound appealing to me at first.

The Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay is joining those who are tired of the media frenzy surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, especially when it impacts football games.
During Thursday’s episode of The View‘s Behind the Table podcast, when asked how she felt about the whole Swift-Kelce phenomenon, she responded, “Hate it. Hate it. There’s no other emotion that comes out of me than hating it.”
Lindsay, who starred in season 13 of ABC’s popular dating show, is also a fan of the NFL, which is why she finds it “exhausting” constantly seeing Swifties obsessing over the sport just because of the singer’s rumored romance with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
“It’s a little obnoxious, the Taylor Swift fans,” she told The View executive producer Brian Teta. “Love that you’re into the sport, but they’re not, they’re into the Taylor–Travis Kelce of it.

Star Wars beats Marvel for the top franchise, according to Fandom’s Franchise Factor Score study released Wednesday. The data-driven fansite used its new metric, the Franchise Factor Score, to determine the top 25 entertainment and gaming franchises at this moment in popular culture.
“Star Wars” ranks number one in the study. The fictional galaxy most recently welcomed “Ahsoka” to the fold. Marvel clocks in at second place, and One Piece takes the third slot shortly after Netflix released its live-action anime show, which has been renewed for a second season.
Harry Potter takes the fifth slot, with Barbie close behind. Yellowstone takes the seventh slot followed by The Last of Us in eighth place. Disney rounds out the top 10 franchises.
The Franchise Factor uses five criteria — worldbuilding, high ratings, fierce fanbase, cultural relevance and consistency — to determine why and how some IP resonates more than others based on fan reception.

Ralph got involved with Project Angel Food more than three decades ago after having just moved to Los Angeles following the success of Broadway’s Dreamgirls. As the story goes, she saw volunteers circulating around a church kitchen that served as the headquarters for Project Angel Food at the time when the organization was serving hundreds. She decided to get involved as she knew so many people impacted by the disease. She also co-founded the Diva Foundation which raised...

When “The Bachelorette” returns on Monday night with its milestone 20th season, the franchise will continue to make history with leading lady Charity Lawson.
Lawson is the fourth Black woman on the long-running dating series, following Rachel Lindsay (who starred in Season 13 in 2017), Tayshia Adams and Michelle Young. Over the years, “The Bachelor” has faced criticism for its lack of diversity but has pledged to increase its efforts, which have been seen on-screen in recent seasons.

“I found myself really advocating a lot for my needs or my concerns as a Bachelorette,” Lawson tells Variety. “Being [a] woman of color, but the second monoracial Black woman, to be in this role was huge. They are making strides slowly but surely.”
