Alongside Peggy Carter actress Hayley Atwell, Darragh Hand will join the cast of Heartstopper when the series returns for season 3 in October 2024. While Atwell will play Nick Nelson’s aunt Diane, Hand will portray Michael Holden, a character in Alice Oseman’s first novel Solitaire. With the Netflix series, the actor is well-positioned to showcase his talent to a wider audience. If the upcoming season becomes as successful as the previous installments, Hand’s career will be ushered to a new height, perhaps his breakthrough in the competitive industry. When Oseman unveiled Hand to the Heartstopper fandom, she swore he was the perfect actor for

“She adores her,” he added.

Nineteen sixty-eight has to be considered the apex of psychedelic sexploitation romps, with the release of Candy, adapted from Mason Hoffenberg and Terry Southern’s satirical reworking of Voltaire’s Candide, and Roger Vadim’s Barbarella, based on Jean-Claude Forest’s comic, and partially scripted by Southern (alongside an armada of other credited writers). Both employ a rambling, shaggy-dog structure as an excuse to flagrantly foreground softcore sexual hijinks tinged with a pungent whiff of social commentary, albeit the latter aspect may be easier to discern in Candy’s perverse daisy chain of events.
Southern’s contributions to the Dino De Laurentiis-produced Barbarella can be detected in some of its wittier lines (“A good many dramatic situations begin with screaming!”) and sly pokes at the persistence of class-consciousness. Aside from Southern, the two films are linked by the presence of Anita Pallenberg, style icon and muse of the Rolling...

Conservative media company The Daily Wire announced it is making a live-action Snow White movie following right-wing backlash over Disney’s upcoming live-action Snow White.
Titled Snow White and the Evil Queen, the movie (teaser trailer below) stars YouTuber Brett Cooper as the princess in a film based on the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale, which is now in the public domain.
“It’s a story about a princess and a prince, about beauty and vanity, about love and its power to raise us from death to life,” said Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing. “It’s our own adaptation of an ancient fairy tale.” Boreing made the announcement when launching Bentkey, Daily Wire’s new kids’ entertainment brand that seeks to take on Disney+ at a time when some conservatives have grown frustrated with the legacy studio.

Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation is streaming worldwide and has certainly taken fans by surprise with some of the notable creative changes, one of which is the introduction of Vice Admiral Garp. In true Shounen fashion, the leading faction of the manga series, pirates, must also face formidable mainstay adversaries, which in this context are the Marines, the peacekeeping administration deployed by the World Government to keep miscreants like pirates and bandits in check. Vice Admiral Garp is presented as the leader of the Marine fleet, chasing Luffy and his straw-hat crew through the East Blue.
Spoilers Ahead
Although initially the cat and mouse game between the two parties seems random, the biggest surprise of the first season is revealed in the climax of the fourth episode, titled The Pirates Are Coming, with the reveal of a familial connection. Garp turns out to be Monkey D. Luffy’s grandfather,...

Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Snow White” gained another detractor, but the critic is a little closer to home this time.
The son of the original director of the 1937 animated classic, David Hand – his father goes by the same name – claims Walt Disney himself would be furious with the film’s “woke” direction in a new interview with The Telegraph.
Online criticism heightened last month when on-set photos of the live-action remake depicted the removal of the original story’s seven dwarves to be more inclusive and less stereotypical.

The upcoming remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is just one of the many live-action adaptations Disney has made of their animated classics, but this one seems to be hitting a nerve.
While speaking with The Telegraph, David Hale Hand, son of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs supervising director David Dodd Hand, is very much opposed to the remake. “I mean, it’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it,” Hand said. “There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.“

David Hand, the son of the animator who helmed the original “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” has condemned the studio’s updated remake of the classic animated film starring Rachel Zegler.
Hand, 91, whose father was also named David Hand, characterized the upcoming remake as “insulting,” citing concerns about its “woke” approach.
“They change the stories, they change the thought processes of the characters, they just aren’t the original stories anymore. They’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that,” Hand told the Telegraph in an interview.
Hand, who worked at Disney as a designer in the 1990s added: “I find it quite frankly a bit insulting that they may have done with some of these classic films. There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.

“Snow White” has been plagued with backlash from the beginning. First, star Rachel Zegler’s casting was criticized due to Zegler being of Latina descent. Peter Dinklage, meanwhile, called the live-action remake a “fucking backwards story” that he said was offensive to the dwarfism community. Disney later responded that the film would not be “reinforcing stereotypes” over differently abled people.
Now, the son of the director of the original 1937 animated film is saying that Walt Disney himself would disapprove of the new “woke” direction of the feature. David Hand, whose late father of the same name was the original film’s director, worked for Disney as a designer in the 1990s.
Hand told The Telegraph UK that Disney and his dad would be “turning in their graves” if they were alive to see the new “Snow White.” “It’s a whole different concept and I just totally disagree with it,...

Disney’s live-action remake of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs doesn’t come out until next year, but a culture war surrounding the film — titled Snow White — is already at full boil.
First, conservative critics took issue with casting of Latina star Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) as a character described in the original Brothers Grimm story as having “skin as white as snow,” and the production changing the formerly titular seven dwarfs into a diverse collection of magical creatures of varying sizes and genders.
Then 22-year-old Zegler caused a stir when a flurry of comments from late last year recently resurfaced that suggested she didn’t like the original film and that the new movie would take a very different approach to the iconic character.
“She’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” Zegler told Variety in September. “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader...

Dublin, Aug 4 (Ians) Ireland have brought in all-rounder Fionn Hand and leg-spinner Gareth Delany in their 15-member squad for three-match T20I series against India, starting from August 18 in Malahide.
Hand had missed out on selection in Ireland’s recent qualification for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup while Delany is returning from injury after breaking his wrist during the Men’s Odi World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in June.

The Indian side arriving in Ireland is an exciting one for the supporters, but as we showed last year, we have the talent and confidence to match them on the field of play and we have high hopes for another fiercely contested series.

There was a time when the only thing that could interfere with Spicoli’s tasty waves and a cool buzz was a history teacher by the name of Mr. Hand. But, perhaps unexpectedly, Sean Penn has some strong feelings against intelligence of the artificial kind as well, blasting studios for supporting AI.

Paramount+'s 2023 series "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies" serves as a prequel to the hit 1978 film. The musical series follows Jane (Marisa Davila), Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara) as they form the girl gang the Pink Ladies in 1954. In "Grease," which is set in 1958, Sandy (played by the late Olivia Newton-John) is befriended by the Pink Ladies clique when she becomes a student at Rydell High, though Betty Rizzo, Frenchy, Jan, and Marty are all different levels of welcoming toward her.
How does "Rise of the Pink Ladies" connect to the original "Grease"? Well, of course, the new Pink Ladies and T-Birds attend the same high school that the original characters do. In the movie, Rydell High is run by Principal McGee, played by the late Eve Arden, but in "Rise of the Pink Ladies," she's Assistant Principal McGee, played pitch-perfectly by comedic icon Jackie Hoffman.

Amy Heckerling's 1982 film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," written by Cameron Crowe, is a coming-of-age film that contains far more embarrassment and ambivalence about the teen experience than any expected notes of wistful nostalgia. The Ridgemont High students don't always make good decisions and find themselves stumbling toward sexual liberation and an adult sense of agency. They are trying to achieve some sense of dignity, which is difficult when your sexual encounters are mortifying and you have to wear stupid costumes to your minimum-wage job. They're not good kids or bad kids. They're complete people. It's the film's sense of emotional honesty that likely has it firmly ensconced in the pop consciousness. Its comedic moments are but icing on the cake.
"Fast Times" is set in California's San Fernando Valley, and the character played by Sean Penn, Jeff Spicoli, is a somewhat spaced-out, stoned surfer dude who has massive...

T20 World Cup: Don't think it has still fully sunk in, says Ireland's Fionn Hand on win over England
Brisbane, Oct 29 (Ians) Having played just two international matches for Ireland before being selected in the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia, bowling all-rounder Fionn Hand made an immediate impact in his first match of the tournament on Wednesday.
Coming into the playing eleven for the match against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Hand claimed figures of 1/17, including the wicket of all-rounder Ben Stokes as his delivery found the gap between bat and pat to hit the stumps and contribute in Ireland’s famous five-run win.
Now, Hand is keen to see the side carry the momentum forward into the final two Super 12 matches, first of which is against Australia on Monday at The Gabba. “It was an amazing experience playing at the McG — even better playing against England. Even though a few days have passed, I don’t think it has still fully sunk in.

House of the Dragon: Olivia Cooke on whether that pivotal Viserys scene was truly a misunderstanding
House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke has shed some light on a pivotal line of dialogue in the show’s eighth episode.
The Game of Thrones spin-off series, which stars Cooke as Alicent Hightower, came to an explosive end on Sunday (23 October).
*Spoilers for House of the Dragon episode eight, nine and 10 below – you have been warned*
In the show’s eighth episode, Alicent and Rhaneyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) appear to bridge the divide at a family feast held by King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine).
Alicent goes so far as to tell Rhaenyra that she will make a “fine queen”, appearing to accept Rhaenyra’s claim to the throne.
At the end of the episode, however, a confused Viserys tells Alicent – who he may believe to be Rhaenyra in his sickly state – of Aegon the Conqueror’s dream. It is a premonition that he had previously shared with...

House of the Dragon cleared up a controversial plot point in its latest episode.
The finale of the hit HBO series, which was broadcast on Sunday (23 October), addressed the previous episode’s closing scene, which led to frustration among viewers.
The scene in question saw Rhaenys (Eve Best) deciding to spare the lives of the usurping Hightowers before escaping from King’s Landing on dragonback.
Many felt the scene was unbelievable considering Rhaenys could have instantly ended the impending civil war – and it turns out this is a sentiment also shared by one of the show’s characters.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
In the finale, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) says of Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cook) to Rhaenys: “That Queen murdered my brother and stole his throne. You could have burned them all.”
Rhaenys, explaining her decision, replies: “A war fought like this, there is to be treachery, to be sure,...

House of the Dragon featured yet another “traumatising” birth scene in its season one finale.
When the series began, the showrunners. Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, said they would not “shy away” from several births that take place in George Rr Martin’s source material, Fire & Blood.
One such scene featured in the opening episode, and ended in the death of Queen Aemma (Sian Brooke). A second followed in episode six, when Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) gives birth to Joffrey.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
In episode 10, Rhaenyra, shortly after learning her father King Viserys (Paddy Considine) has died, goes into early labour, which leads to her baby being stillborn. Viewers struggled to watch the scene, and expressed their distress on social media.
“House of Dragon overdid it with the child birth scenes this season,” one fan wrote, with another saying they felt they were “going to faint” in the...

After King Viserys (Paddy Considine) dies, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and her father, the Hand (Rhys Ifans), conspire to keep the king’s death a secret in order to buy them time to prepare Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) to usurp the throne from Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).

Kids, they grow up so fast. After last week’s discombobulating decade-long time jump on House of the Dragon, the Targaryen and Velaryon broods have gone from mere babes (or glints in the eye) to rambunctious children. Drinking, wanking, fighting. And now that the dust has settled on that quantum leap, it’s time for them to take centre stage.
Bad Heir Days
But first, an olive branch. “It’s time that you came home,” Viserys (Paddy Considine) says to his brother, Daemon (Matt Smith). “I know we’ve had our differences but let them pass with the years.” Perhaps he’s forgotten that Daemon was expelled from court for trying to shag his niece. The same forgiveness cannot be said to stem from Daemon to Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), now returned as Hand. “No matter how fat the leech grows, it always wants for another meal,” Daemon whispers, with venom,...

This article contains House of the Dragon episode 3 spoilers.
It is no small thing when a king goes hunting. As author George R.R. Martin is no doubt relieved to see—after previously suggesting the depiction of a king’s hunt in Game of Thrones was one of his great regrets—King Viserys’ chase during last night’s House of the Dragon was quite the spectacle.
When a stag finally fell beneath the gaze of Viserys (Paddy Considine), there were horses and hounds, broad pavilion tents and bards to sing in them. Even his toddler son by his second wife, the teenage Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), is on hand to bask in the opulence of the Targaryen monarch’s alleged greatness. But right down to the dour countenance on Viserys’ face… something very wrong appears to be occurring.
The sequence was the centerpiece of Sunday night’s House of the Dragon.

If you're a law-abiding citizen with no experience of life behind bars, a good prison movie is a window into a harsh world far removed from regular day-to-day life. There is something so intense about the idea of incarceration that makes it great for drama, and also lends itself to symbolism and metaphor beyond the usual narrative beats of violent inmates, old lags, sadistic screws, and suspenseful escapes.
I recently had a discussion around this with a friend regarding "The Shawshank Redemption." He keeps his kids well away from any screen violence while I have watched the movie with my seven-year-old daughter. Why, he wanted to know, did I think a film containing brutal beatings, suicide, and sexual assault was suitable for her? Well, we skipped some of the darker stuff, and I felt the story's overall message of resilience, hope, and friendship was the important thing, reflected in how...

Belfast (Ireland), Aug 13 (Ians) Ireland’s middle-order batter George Dockrell struck his maiden T20I half-century but the hosts still ended up losing the third game by 22 runs as Afghanistan clawed back after two successive defeats to finally taste success in the five-match series on Saturday (Ist).
The touring side’s top four batters delivered to put up a strong total of 189/5, and Ireland were quickly reduced to 36/4 in their run chase.
The hosts looked down and out at 85/7 in the 13th over, but Dockrell (58 not out off 37 balls) and debutant Fionn Hand (36 off 18) kept Ireland’s hopes alive with an eighth-wicket partnership worth 74 — just six runs short of a world-record eighth wicket stand in T20I cricket, according to Cricket Ireland. In the end, though, Afghanistan held on to celebrate their first win of the series to make it 1-2 after three games.

Formidable creatures force him to battle not only for his life but also against his inner demons. Pairing wine with movies! See the trailers and hear the fascinating commentary for these movies, and many more, at Trailers From Hell. This week, three movies which show in stark detail how to be a cad, courtesy of George Sanders. We have wine pairings for each, of course.
Cads don’t really come much caddier than in the 1956 film, Death of a Scoundrel. The story was based on the life of financial criminal Serge Rubinstein – who was killed in 1955. One glance at the list of his transgressions and it’s a wonder someone didn’t knock him off sooner. Stock manipulation and embezzlement are the least caddiest parts of his personality. His dalliances with women were just as shady.
Death of a Scoundrel was one of a pair of films in which Sanders got to work with his real-life brother Tom Conway, who was a dead ringer in the familial resemblance department.
