Like his Normal People (2020) character Connell Waldron, he attended Trinity College Dublin.
Paul Mescal was once in a commercial for Denny, a sausage company. The commercial was so popular, that Mescal became known as "Sausage Paul".
Paul is fluent in Ireland's native language, (Gaeilge) and was interviewed in Irish on the red carpet at the BAFTAs 2023 by Irish television channel TG4.
Before focusing on his acting career, Mescal would go on to play Gaelic football for Kildare's Under-21 team before taking the decision to step away.
He was initially nervous during his first love scene in his feature film with Dakota Johnson for The Lost Daughter (2021). However, he recalled that she was "exceptionally disarming and kind" and that it brought them closer together. They continued to stay in touch, with him attending the after-party in 2024 for Dakota Johnson/Justin Timberlake (2024) in which she was the guest-host.
Was invited to join the actor's branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in 2023.
Mescal plays the piano, and has performed covers of songs with his sister, singer Nell Mescal.
