Exclusive: The independent film Mama Duck, a dark comedy written and directed by the award-winning team of Jack Gorman and Shannon Walsh, is set to begin production on July 6, 2024, in the Greater Los Angeles area. Catharine Daddario and Austin Woods are attached to star alongside Walsh.
Mama Duck follows Caeli (Walsh), an aspiring animator who moves across the country to escape her overbearing family. Her promising new start is derailed by the reappearance of her college sweetheart Sabrina (Daddario) and the news of her brother Jake’s (Woods) cancer diagnosis, forcing her to confront the delicate balance between her personal struggles and the pursuit of her dreams.
Mama Duck expands on the themes explored in Gorman and Walsh’s highly-acclaimed short, A Dinner. Gorman and Walsh were named Top 10 Filmmakers to Watch by the Hollywood Times ahead of the 2023 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.

When John Krasinski stepped behind the camera for his 2018 smash hit horror feature “A Quiet Place,” he drew inspiration from an unlikely place: “This movie was for my kids,” he told IndieWire in April 2018. Well, not so much for them, but about them, and the lengths parents will go in order to protect their nearest and dearest. Krasinski and co-star and wife Emily Blunt’s kiddos were quite young at the time, and not at all the target audience for the nearly wordless alien invasion thriller. Perhaps then, when Krasinski set about writing his first post-“A Quiet Place” and “A Quiet Place Part II” film, the PG outing “If,” the filmmaker wanted to finally make something his kids could actually watch.
That’s a fine enough place to start, and a more tender reading of Krasinski’s fifth directorial feature, which takes an interesting enough idea — what if imaginary friends were real?...

Tagline: "There's Something Waiting in the Mountains." The Retreat is an upcoming horror feature, focusing on an Indigenous legend - the Wendigo. This creature has been put to film before in films like Larry Fessenden's Wendigo (2001) and others. This time, two hikers head up to Upstate New York. Here, they encounter a monster, which bloodies their hiking trip. Developed by director Bruce Wemple (Monstrous), this feature centrally stars: Grant Schumacher (Lake Artifact), Dylan Grunn (Left Hand) and Catharine Daddario. A trailer was released late last week and the clip can be found below, in case you missed it. The trailer shows the creature, in some of the scenes. With glowing eyes, it attacks at night, leaving Gus and Adam disoriented in open country. Now, this duo must find a way to overcome this supernatural entity, before the remaining light of day fizzles out. Uncork'd Entertainment will show The Retreat on DVD and Digital,...

It’s maybe a little surprising that there isn’t actually that many horror movies centered around the legend of Bigfoot. The most well known is perhaps the 1972 cult fake documentary horror The Legend of Boggy Creek, which is much more entertaining than you might expect. The Blair Witch Project director Eduardo Sanchez created my favourite Bigfoot film with the found-footage-style movie Exists in 2014. So I am always happy to see a new movie based on the legendary ‘creature’.
In Monstrous we see a young woman, Sylvia (Anna Shields – who also wrote the movie) searching for her friend who has gone missing in an area that is known for its Bigfoot sightings. Her search though leads her to find things other than the monster.
