Update: The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants joined an earlier demonstration by their major league brothers honoring Black Lives Matter in a pregame ceremony.
As at the earlier Yankees/Nationals game, opening day at Dodger Stadium saw the playing of a video from The Players Alliance, a group of African American players, calling for racial justice.
The Dodgers coaching staff and the entire San Francisco Giants squad wore T-shirts with “Black Lives Matter” written on it during the pre-game warmups. Both teams took a knee and held a black ribbon encircling the field during a moment of silence following The Players Alliance video.

Disney’s Toy Story 4 drew an estimated $14.2 million Monday, taking its four-day total to $135.1M. It will continue to conquer the box office into this weekend with $60M-$70M ( a 40%-50% drop) before Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home brings another flood of cash in next Tuesday.
Toy Story 4‘s first Monday is the fourth best for a Disney animated film after Incredibles 2 ($23.6M), Finding Dory ($19.5M) and Toy Story 3 ($15.6M).
Some in the distribution community have expressed concerned there’s a sequelitis funk in the marketplace after Toy Story 4 came in under its $140M-plus projections. Sequelitis really isn’t to blame here as audiences showed in bulk that they made Toy Story 4 the biggest domestic opening in the 24-year old Pixar franchise. Disney-reported Monday actuals came in at $120.9M for the weekend, higher than the $118M the studio was originally observing Sunday morning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers World Series ticket-punching 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series outslugged all others on TV on Saturday, scoring a 4.9 overnight rating on Fox Sports 1.
The game — highlighted by stellar pitching from rookie starter Walker Buehler, homers by Cody Bellinger and Yasiel Puig, and a ninth-inning close by Clayton Kershaw — ended up being the highest-rated cable broadcast of any Mlb game in Los Angeles since 1998, Fox Sports says. It drew a 15.9 metered market rating in L.A., easily best ever for an FS1 broadcast.
It’s a major showing for the L.A. market, where only Spectrum carries the Dodgers’ regular-season games as part of a years-long rights-fee fight with the likes of DirecTV, leaving many in the city without a way to watch the team unless they make the playoffs. The game also overlapped with the Los Angeles Lakers...

The Los Angeles Dodgers are going back to the World Series, knocking off the upstart Milwaukee Brewers tonight 5-1 in a sudden-death Game 7 in the National League Championship Series. That victory gives them the right to face the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, which starts Tuesday.
Riding a three-run home run in the sixth inning by outfielder Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers silenced the raucous home crowd at Miller Park in Milwaukee, which had hoped to see its first World Series return since 1982. The David vs. Goliath match-up of big-money Dodgers versus small-market Brewers provided all sorts of drama, but in the end, the Dodgers’ strong pitching, some sterling defense, and Puig’s power proved too much.
The win was particularly sweet for Big Blue, as they lost a similar opportunity last year by dropping a Game 7 showdown to the Houston Astros in the World Series. Now, they have...
