The 2019 release ‘Shazam!’ garnered acclaim for its upbeat approach to the superhero genre, centering around the character of the same name. Zachary Levi portrayed the adult Shazam, while Asher Angel depicted the teenage Billy Batson.
Recently, Asher hinted at plans for a third movie, but with the underperformance of ‘Shazam! 2’ and the overhaul of the Dceu into the newly minted Dcu, the future is uncertain.
It appears that Asher has landed a different role altogether in this fresh cinematic universe, as the actor recently shared a Nightwing gif on his social media. Additionally, James Gunn has hinted at the inclusion of this superhero in his upcoming franchise, with Asher often being suggested by fans for the role.

‘Shazam!’ released in 2019 was a highly praised lighthearted movie focusing on a superhero of the same name. While the grown-up version of Shazam was played by Zachary Levi, the teenage version of Billy Batson was played by Asher Angel.
Asher recently commented how the third movie was in the plans before ‘Shazam! 2’ has flopped and Dceu was revamped into the newly established Dcu.
Now it seems that Asher has scored something else entirely, within this new cinematic universe as the actor recently published a Nightwing gif on his social media. As remained, James Gunn recently also teased the superhero within his new franchise, and Asher himself is a frequent fan-cast for the role.

The Dcu is still very young, and we have yet to see how James Gunn’s vision will come to life and what it will look like. But, from the looks of it, Gunn has a very firm vision of what he wants to create, and fans of DC Comics definitely have a lot to be excited about. And while the current Dcu has only a small number of confirmed characters and castings, Gunn has teased that a beloved Batman character will make an appearance in the Dcu. The character in question is Nightwing, and while we still don’t know when he will appear and who is going to play him, one potential candidate for the role might be hinting at something on his Twitter account.

Asher Angel received praise for his breakout role in Shazam! as Billy Batson and, while Shazam! Fury of the Gods failed to live up to expectations, he was once again the highlight.
Many fans went so far as to suggest he should take over from Zachary Levi as the Dcu's Big Red Cheese, though we expect Shazam to be put on the shelf in the new Dcu after the sequel so badly underperformed last year.
That doesn't mean Angel's time playing a superhero is over, though. In fact, he recently posted a Gif of Nightwing on X which has sent speculation into overdrive about him potentially joining The Brave and the Bold as Dick Grayson. While he'd be a great fit for the role, many fans have pointed out, it's unlikely the actor would tease the role like this if he'd just been cast.

Batman: The Animated Series is one of the most iconic pieces of television of all time, having laid the foundations for the Dcau as well as revolutionized storytelling in animation. One of the biggest reasons for its success has to be its co-creator, Bruce Timm, who has an innate understanding of the characters he portrays, which also helped him create other beloved projects like Justice League, Batman: Beyond, and Superman: The Animated Series.

Batman and Superman have a long-standing rivalry in the DC comics. Often found at different ends of an opinion, the two superheroes rarely seem to see eye to eye when it comes to more radical themes. "Young Justice" is one of the best superhero shows ever made. Building on the path carved by the work of Bruce Timm with "Justice League," "Batman: The Animated Series," and more, this animated series draws from every corner of the DC universe, from Jack Kirby's trippy Fourth Wall to Golden Age characters and much more. The show offered episodic storytelling, with most episodes revolving around a specific mission, while also advancing an overarching story with big consequences.
Perhaps the show's biggest achievement is one that we still haven't seen properly replicated in live-action — the idea of legacy. Throughout the current four seasons of "Young Justice" (we still don't know where and if the show fits James Gunn's DC Universe), we see heroes retire and pass on their mantle to new generations who carry on their heroic legacy. We see that with Jason Todd becoming Robin after Dick Grayson became Nightwing,...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ana Nogueira is already on board to write the script. Nogueira, recognizable for acting roles in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Starz’s Hightown, is also working on DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to star Milly Alcock.
The announcement makes Teen Titans the first film added to the initial run of DC Universe productions Gunn revealed back in January 2023. It remains to be seen how or when it will slot into what’s being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, but Gunn, Nogueria, and the DC team have plenty of options.
Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

The "Teen Titans" are headed back to the big screen — in live-action form. THR is reporting a live-action "Teen Titans" movie is on the way from Warner Bros. and the James Gunn and Peter Safran-fronted DC Studios. Ana Nogueira is tackling the script. Nogueria is also writing the "Supergirl" movie for DC Studios, and was previously attached to write a different "Supergirl" movie that ended up getting scrapped. Got it? Good.

When making The Dark Knight films, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan had a pact that they would walk away if they were fortunate enough to make three films. The pair stayed true to this vision and concluded their Batman adventure after The Dark Knight Rises. But if Nolan were to make a potential fourth film in the series, one fan had the perfect villain and actor suggestion for the Oppenheimer director.
Fan creates a trailer for a potential fourth film in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy
The fan made a concept trailer in 2012 with clips from previous films and chose The Riddler as the villain for the film. The fan’s choice of actor to play The Riddler was the Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck. While the fan’s idea of a fourth film never came to fruition, it still has a lot of potential.

The Dark Knight is one of those films that does not just stand out in the genre that it exists in but also stands out among films in general. So it is no wonder that the film has inspired countless actors to take a shot in the industry. "The Simpsons" has a long history of parodying Batman. Bart Simpson has the masked alter ego Bartman, who even starred in his own six-issue spin-off comic. Season 4 classic "Mr. Plow," one of the best "Simpsons" episodes, features Adam West as himself; he laments the lack of Robin (and the Batusi dance) in the then-contemporary Tim Burton "Batman" movies. You can draw a straight line from West parodying himself like this to his eventual recurring role on "Family Guy."
In "The Simpsons" season 24's "Dark Knight Court," Mr. Burns and Smithers stumble into the Android's Dungeon, where Burns rediscovers his childhood love of comic books. Reading the copyright-friendly "Detection Comics," Monty has his "he just like me Fr!" moment with Batman. So, he decides to become a caped crusader of the night as Fruit Bat Man, whose exploits are scored to music much like Hans Zimmer's operatic "Dark Knight" trilogy score.

I love cartoons. Specifically cartoon series from the 80’s and 90’s. Whenever someone asks me what my favorite childhood cartoon is, I always say there are two. The first is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the second is Darkwing Duck. I was the biggest fan of the masked mallard, and who wouldn’t be? He was brave, smart, egotistical, and accident-prone but would persevere against evil. He had a killer costume and cool equipment to fight bad guys. He had an awesome rogue’s gallery that was a bit of a joke but also surprisingly formidable. The cartoon was also not afraid to show its love for classic superhero comics at a time when the general public didn’t understand it. It even broke through the Iron Curtain at the height of the Cold War. But does this cartoon from the early 90’s still hold up? Is it a silly...

Viewers of Merry Little Batman meet Damian Wayne as the lovable scamp who chases his cat Selina through the halls of stately Wayne Manor, decked in a blanket for a cape and a brown paper bag for a cowl, just like his dear old dad, Batman. The delightful holiday special imagines Damian as a good-hearted soul who wants nothing more than to be like his pop, and doesn’t even get too upset at his father’s overprotective demands. When the Joker returns to Gotham while Batman is trapped in the Arctic, Damian gets his chance to prove that he deserves to be called “Son of the Bat.”
But comic book readers first met Damian under very different circumstances. In a 1987 graphic novel by Mike W. Barr and Jerry Bingham, Batman reluctantly joins forces with eco-terrorist Ra’s al Ghul to take down the assassin Quain. During the alliance, Batman...

James Gunn’s development of the new Superman reboot and Dcu kickstart, Superman: Legacy, wasn’t affected by the strikes as the writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy was able to submit his screenplay just before the writers started their picketing. While the dual strikes were in effect, he was able to continue with the project purely with his director’s cap on. Pre-production is currently continuing in full force, and more and more news of casting is released, including a new Jimmy Olsen and Eve Teschmacher being cast with Skylar Gisondo and Sara Sampaio.
While Gunn concluded his initial script prior to the strikes, there were inevitable rewrites and additional drafts to be written after completion, as is done with nearly all screenplays. Now that the strikes have subsided, Gunn has been able to go back and work on his script. Recently, the frequently interactive...

James Gunn is famously active on social media, especially on the new platform, Threads, where he keeps sharing details and answering fan questions. And, just recently, he gave us two big updates for two highly-anticipated Dcu projects upcoming in the next several years – ‘Superman: Legacy,’ and ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold.’
Both will be huge for DC Studios and for Gunn, who took over as co-ceo with Peter Safran a couple of years ago.
Recently, rumors started spreading on Twitter about the casting choices for ‘The Brave and the Bold.’ Jensen Ackles was allegedly cast as Bruce Wayne, Javon Walton as Damian Wayne, aka Robin, Wolfgang Novogratz as Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, and Clancy Brown as Alfred Pennyworth.

More Harlivy is on the way.
Max has renewed raunchy, violent animated series “Harley Quinn” for Season 5, just a couple months after Season 4 finished its run. The animated DC show, starring Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn and Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, has proven to be a hit for Max, and it even has its own spinoff, “Kite Man: Hell Yeah,” coming in 2024.
“‘Harley Quinn’ has raised the comedic crowbar with every new season. We’re excited to continue this partnership with Max and take our biggest swing yet for Season 5,” said Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming at Warner Bros. Animation, in a statement.
In Season 4, Harley began working with the Bat-Family, including Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl, while Ivy assumed her new role as the CEO of the Legion of Doom. As Harley started to embrace her more heroic endeavors, she and Ivy butted heads in their relationship.

The live-action Titans series had tremendous potential, from its source material to the pedigrees of the talent bringing the heroes to television. Titans failed to work from the first episode to the last. As a television series, it needed a bigger budget for better effects, and the caliber of actors needed to be stronger to pull off these larger-than-life personalities.
Most of the storylines were drawn from Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s seminal run from the early 1980s or the early issues from Geoff Johns and Mike McKone’s run in the 2000s. Both required a consistent tonality along with a budget to make the scope of the stories work.
In the fourth and final series, out now on disc from Warner Home Entertainment, the series tackled both Lex Luthor and Brother Blood. Either one could easily have been the Big Bad for these last dozen episodes, but they split the focus and,...

Frustrated, Ivy brings Harley to Lex’s 16th 40th birthday party on the moon. DC Comics has some of the most iconic characters “embedded” in popular culture. One of them is Batman, but his initial supporting characters became more popular as the years passed, and one of them is Dick Grayson. The first Robin and the original Boy Wonder has been a fan-favorite for decades, especially when he assumed the mantle of Nightwing, a superhero who helps his adoptive father and protects a city located in New Jersey, Blüdhaven. Despite his popularity in comics, there haven’t been that good live-action adaptation, with HBO’s ‘Titans’ being the closest to the source material.
For years, there have been rumors that a ‘Nightwing’ movie will be developed for the ‘Snyderverse,’ but the potential project’s sporadic updates have been less frequent, especially with the DC Universe reboot. The recent confirmation of industry journalists saw that the ‘Nightwing’ project might as well be canceled – for good.

Robin, the Boy Wonder was first introduced in the pages of Batman comic books in 1940, having been created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. The character's domino mask and green-forward costume, as well as his name, were inspired by Robin Hood. In the myth of the comics, the young Dick Grayson was a mere eight years old and worked as a traveling circus performer with his family, aka The Flying Graysons. Dick's parents were murdered by a wicked gangster who had been extorting the circus owners. Orphaned, Dick was taken in by Bruce Wayne and trained in the art of crime-fighting.
As is the natural progression for a comic book character, Robin underwent multiple transformations and iterations over the decades. When Dick Grayson aged out of the role of Boy Wonder (he eventually became a superhero of his own named Nightwing), other younger people, usually teenagers, took on the mantle of Batman's brightly colored sidekick.

As it nears its series finale, HBO Max’s Titans ties up loose ends pretty quickly, and the rushed pace hurts the plot progression a bit and can leave viewers confused. However, after much tiptoeing around the conflicting motivations of the villainous duo of Brother Blood and Mother Mayhem, we finally get a set course to their endgame in this episode as Sebastian prepares to meet his destiny. In the previous episode, Sebastian had a falling out with May and ended up destroying her. Conner, aka Superboy, who had allied with Sebastian, tried to mentally break him by presenting him with a chance of fulfilling his dream of developing a game that could allow him absolute control over the users, only to later help the Titans sabotage it. On the other hand, Kory made peace with her vengeful self as she had a good time with Gar and members of the Doom Patrol,...

Before James Gunn defected from Marvel to make a coherent cinematic universe with Peter Safran, the DC Universe was defined by Zack Snyder. From his movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder was charged with launching a cinematic universe built around members of the Justice League. And while most members did get a movie, there was a surprising omission: Batman, the most bankable character in the DC stable.

After the runaway success of Tim Burton's "Batman" in 1989, Batman media began to proliferate throughout the landscape. The film sold a massive amount of toys and t-shirts, not to mention many, many copies of Prince's soundtrack record. Imitators immediately started appearing in theaters, with Warren Beatty's "Dick Tracy" being the highest-profile example. A sequel, "Batman Returns," was released in June 1992, and the following September saw the debut of "Batman: The Animated Series," a celebrated TV show that cribbed a lot of its attitudes and aesthetics from Burton's films. Those who were hovering around age 12 in 1992 likely have nothing but effusive things to say about "Batman: The Animated Series," given its shadowy look and intense stories. Late voice actor Kevin Conroy, for many, holds the standard for Caped Crusader performances.
"The Animated Series" ended its run in 1995 but spawned several spin-offs from the same production team, led by celebrity animator Bruce Timm.

In the comics, Dick Grayson a.k.a Nightwing is one of the main staples DC has to offer; as such, the character should be part of the rebooted DC universe. The last time Dick Grayson was featured in a movie was Joel Schumacher‘s Batman Forever, with a few teases of the Robin character in The Dark Knight Rises and Suicide Squad. With James Gunn and Peter Safran confirming the live-action film debut of Damian Wayne, it would be a mistake to not include the parallels of Dick’s and Damian’s relationship to Bruce. Dick Grayson is a crucial part of Bruce Wayne’s...

The Batman is dead. Long live … his previously unseen adopted son?
That’s the premise behind “Gotham Knights,” the CW’s latest (and last?) DC Comics-based TV series, potentially putting the pin in a remarkable 18-year run encompassing everything from “Smallville” to the expansive “Arrowverse” and the still-airing (for now) “Superman & Lois.” If this is indeed the end, it feels like a sad, destined-to-be-ignored footnote rather than a triumphant farewell.
Of course, the Dark Knight has always been a particularly sparkly gem in the DC crown, which probably accounts for why his solo exploits remain the dominion of feature films, leaving various television offerings to dig and scrape in the corners and crevices of the Batman mythos for storytelling opportunities. Just in the last 10 years we’ve gotten Batman’s city before Batman (Fox’s “Gotham”), Batman’s butler before Batman (Starz/HBO Max’s “Pennyworth”), Batman’s...

There is a new DC cinematic universe on the horizon, and there is plenty to be excited about. For one, Gunn promises to "elevate" DC writers and make sure scripts are ready before cameras start rolling, which already feels like a game-changer for superhero movies. We also got a slate announcement with a surprising variety to it, with movies and shows of very different tones all belonging to the same universe.
Arguably the most exciting part of the announcement was Gunn's general enthusiasm for comic books. Not only did he name-drop specific books (that later sold out in great numbers), but many of the titles in the slate are inspired by iconic comic-book runs — hopefully in a more direct way than most movies until now, which just bastardize the source material until it is unrecognizable. Sure, as I've argued before, all of this is already done in the animated DC movies,...

One of the benefits of HBO Max's "Harley Quinn" being a comedy is that it can explore familiar characters in unexpected, even biting ways. Bruce Wayne may spend his nights as the heroic Batman, but he's also just as out of touch as any other billionaire ("People pay for housing?"). The Joker is a maniacal super-villain, but after a stint with amnesia, he's also developed a domestic life as a suburban dad ("Lots of dads are serial killers!"). Commissioner Gordon is a nervous wreck and totally dependent on Batman, Nightwing has an inferiority complex thanks to Bruce's distant parenting, and being in the Legion of Doom is like a 9-to-5 job for villains, complete with coffee chats in the break room.
However, these details aren't just random; what makes them funny is how they're authentically rooted in the characters' personalities. In an interview with /Film's Ben Pearson, "Harley Quinn" co-creators...
