Disillusioned with life in the city, feeling out of place in suburbia, and frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, Giselle turns to the magic of Andalasia for help. Accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy, she must race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
There was definitely an effort made when it comes to Adam Shankman‘s Disenchanted; a musical fantasy romantic comedy film that also serves as the sequel to 2007’s smash hit Enchanted, which saw a stunning blend of live-action and animation and came complete with a touching, heartwarming story,...

With a few more weeks in the holiday season, you just know that this weekend’s new take on Pinocchio wouldn’t be the only family-aimed musical family feature based on a fairy tale. Well, “kind of” as this new film is a sequel to an unexpected hit from fifteen years ago that was “inspired” by those lush film fables with hummable tunes that Disney specialized in. In many ways, it was a parody of them, which is ironic since the “mouse house” produced it. Now many fans of that flick may wonder about those 2007 characters. Could they possibly change and become Disenchanted?
This follow-up actually begins in the fully-animated magical world of Andalasia, where the chipmunk Pip (voice of Griffin Newman) reads his twin boys a bedtime story, which, conveniently for “newbies” is a recap of the original film. But the lads implore their pop to tell them just...

What happens after the happily ever after? That’s the cheeky, and intriguing, question “Disenchanted” asks. The answers it comes up with, alas, aren’t quite the stuff dreams are made of.
Instead, this straight-to-streaming sequel seems to have been designed with another aim in mind: attracting as many festivity-fatigued families as possible. And in that, it’s likely to succeed. Because while “Disenchanted” is not entirely enchanting, it is a brightly energetic escape in the grand Disney tradition.
Unfortunately, there are other elements from the Disney tradition that should have been left behind. That, after all, was the point of 2007’s “Enchanted,” a disarmingly post-modern fairy tale that pulled Disney into the present with wit and charm.

Disenchanted is one big mashup of Disney Easter eggs. The long-awaited Enchanted sequel debuted Friday, November 18, on Disney+, with the original cast returning to tell an all-new story in a familiar world. And there are simply too many references to Disney animated classics to count, but we’ll take our best shot at detailing the big ones. In Disenchanted, Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) move with daughters Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) and baby Sofia from Manhattan to Monroeville, a suburban town that resembles Andalasia enough to make Giselle a little less homesick. But when the move gets off to a rough start, Giselle makes a wish upon a magic wishing wand gifted to Sofia by Edward (James Marsden) and Nancy. The King and Queen of Andalasia built a portal in the well of Giselle and Robert’s new fixer-upper castle (naturally), allowing ...

As Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel and James Marsden reunite in the follow-up to the beloved movie, Giselle misses the magic of Andalasia and wonders if the real world is where she is supposed to be.
After a wish for a fairytale life opens the doors to spells and charms in the real world, the friends must come together to protect the fate of Andalasia.
Is “Disenchanted” streaming or in theaters?
The family flick will skip a theatrical release and head straight to Disney+ on Friday, Nov. 18. The only way to watch it is streaming.
What is “Disenchanted” about?
After growing tiresome of bustling city life, Giselle and Robert start a new chapter in the suburban community of Monroeville — but Giselle quickly realizes the change isn’t going to fill the missing void of magic she left in Andalasia.

Disney’s Enchanted (2007) was a funny and subversive tweak of the studio’s fantasy image, fueled by a star-making performance from Amy Adams and a tone that married a love of fairy tale conventions with a self-aware sense of humor. Fifteen years later, Disenchanted can’t quite recapture that magic.
In the years since Princess Giselle (Adams) came from her blissful cartoon kingdom of Andalasia to New York and married lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey), she’s found that it’s hard to keep the fairy tale going once you’ve settled down. Robert’s teenage daughter, Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) has developed a sarcastic streak and the couple’s new baby keeps them up all hours. Thinking that life in the big city may be the cause of their problems, Giselle and Patrick move to the suburbs of Monroeville.

Disenchanted, the long-wished-for sequel to Enchanted, begins with a “wink wink” moment. The 2007 original had fun playing with fairy tales – a princess gets lost in modern New York – and the follow-up seems set to conjure that same spirit. “But there is no after ‘happily ever after’. You just get married and then nothing ever happens to you again,” a pair of chipmunks cheerfully proclaim in the film’s animated opening scene. Very droll. Very knowing. Except… this time round, the wink quota seems severely depleted. It’s devastating to say it, but maybe we’d all have been better off without an “after” to Giselle’s “happily ever after”.
The first film, released in 2007, was a risk for Disney that massively paid off. It managed to walk a fine line between being a love letter to Disney princess films, and a pastiche of them, note perfect in its humour and full of clever references.

Over the course of 15 years, Amy Adams’ zest for musical fairytales hasn’t faltered one bit. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for all of her co-stars. “Disenchanted,” the sequel to Disney’s beloved “Enchanted,” lands on Disney+ over a decade after the original first charmed audiences.
But hey, it’s still half the time it took for “Hocus Pocus 2” to be made. Whatever is in the water over at the Walt Disney Company, both casts have barely changed, and it feels like no time has passed on the magical ticking clock of aging. But was it worth the wait?
Adams gives it her wide-eyed all in “Disenchanted,” reprising her role of Andalasian princess Giselle, who stumbled into Manhattan through a botched portal and fell for divorce attorney and single father Robert (Patrick Dempsey) all those years ago. The sequel, also starring returning scene-stealers James Mardsen and Idina Menzel,...

“Enchanted,” the 2007 Disney musical comedy in which Amy Adams played a goody-two-shoes princess who is exiled from her fairy-tale animated kingdom and transported to the live-action world of New York City, was one of the last really good fish-out-of-water comedies — a genre that kicked into gear in the ’80s with movies like “Splash” and “Back to the Future” and “‘Crocodile’ Dundee,” but that ultimately wore out its welcome. The beauty of “Enchanted” is that it was a Disney kids’ movie that turned everything people love about Disney kids’ movies into a luscious joke. Adams’ Giselle, who had cartoon birds flying around her and kept breaking into song, was too wholesome to be true, yet that was her appeal, her slightly ridiculous joy. The movie, in its very form, figured out a way to have its G-rated princess cake and eat it too.

Disney’s sequel to 2007’s princess-out-of-water story, Enchanted, sees Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) and her newfound family dealing with monsters unlike any she had to face in her cartoon world of Andalasia: midlife crisis, teenagers, and mean mom cliques. Disenchanted may not cover new ground, but there’s nothing disingenuous about its commitment to enjoyable characters.
When Giselle was banished from Andalasia and sent to the “real” three-dimensional world of New York City, she found true love with single dad/lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey and his famously great hair) and his young daughter, Morgan. There, Adams glowed as the living embodiment of a Disney princess. Her poofy dresses, animal helpers, and penchant for bursting into song could’ve easily been grating on paper, but the star and her wide-eyed naiveté were irresistibly convincing. Watching a Disney princess make cockroaches and hardened New Yorkers dance was unselfconscious fun. And as a Disney princess/romantic comedy hybrid,...

Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to Disney’s Enchanted, opens with a heavy dose of reality: A new baby, a distant teenager and a cramped apartment have left Giselle (Amy Adams) feeling disgruntled with her Happily Ever After. The New York City she came to love in the first film — where she pirouetted through Central Park and sang tunes with strangers — has lost its charm. The boredom of domesticity has settled in its place, and Giselle is itching for change.
When Giselle spots an advertisement for a home in Monroeville, a cartoonish suburban haven in upstate New York, she leaps at the chance to restore some of the magic to her life. Along with her new baby, her husband Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and a now teenage Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino), Giselle moves to the idyllic land of fixer-uppers, commuter trains and competitive PTA parents.

If you need any proof of the faulty decision-making exemplified by the Oscars, consider that they failed to give Amy Adams an Academy Award for her sterling work in the 2007 Disney fantasy "Enchanted." Adams' performance in "Enchanted," in which she delivered a true breakout-star turn as an animated princess brought into the real world who was forced to learn about how our world is a bit different than hers, is a genuine force of nature. Though Adams was not a true ingenue at that point, she revealed her immense depth in screwball comedy, romance, and drama in her role as Giselle of Andalasia. But as remarkable as the performance was, revisiting the role that made her an A-List star 15 years down the line is a true risk. Yet it's a delightful surprise that the Disney+ sequel, "Disenchanted," in spite of having a thudder of a title, is a moderately charming affair bolstered,...

Hollywood actress-comedian Maya Rudolph, who plays the villain Malvina in the musical fantasy film ‘Disenchanted’, feels the film’s honesty about domestic life will resonate with the audience.
Elaborating on the same, she said, “I think people will love ‘Disenchanted’ for its honesty about domestic life. Giselle (played by Amy Adams) is well-intentioned in her efforts to create a fairytale life for her family, but life cannot always be a fairytale. Through it all, it is just important to think about all the little moments we take for granted with people special to us.”
Amy Adams, who essays the role of Giselle Philip, feels that change is a natural process and is the only constant, ironically.

"Remember: Happily Ever After is not so easy…" Indeed. Disney has debuted the full-length official trailer for Disenchanted, their highly anticipated follow-up to the beloved musical classic Enchanted from 2007. We know that movie ends with a happily-ever-after finale, which works for that story, but what's next for this family? Ten years after that ending, Giselle returns and questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and "Andalasia" upside down in the process. She transforms the entire town into a real-life fairy tale, and must learn her lesson before it's too late for all those she loves. Disney's sequel Disenchanted stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabriella Baldacchino, with Idina Menzel, and James Marsden. Featuring songs with music by 8-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken & lyrics by 3-time Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz. This doesn't look like it will live up to the original,...

A new trailer has descended upon us from Disney+ for the sequel to the Amy Adams musical comedy, 2007’s Enchanted. The sequel features a returning cast, including Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden and also stars Maya Rudolph, Gabriella Baldacchino, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays. The film is directed by Adam Shankman and features new songs from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.
The official Disney synopsis for the sequel reads,
“It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Adams) and Robert (Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel...

15 years after "Enchanted" hit theaters, we're finally about to follow up with the lovely Giselle (Amy Adams) and see what the real world has had in store for her. If the newest trailer for "Disenchanted" is anything to go by, she's had to make some big adjustments. Not only has she been married to attorney Robert (Patrick Dempsey) for 10 years, but she's also become the stepmother to his now teenage daughter, Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino). Add this prototypical tension to the stresses of moving to the suburbs, and Giselle has found herself in over her head.
So, what does a fairy tale character do to alleviate these stresses? You obviously use a magic wand to cast a spell that turns the entire suburb into a fairy tale. Maybe that logic has a few flaws that we see in this latest trailer, including turning into an evil stepmother, but hey, it's the thought that counts.

Amy Adams is one of the premiere actors of our time, and it's still an absolute crime that she wasn't nominated for an Oscar for her performance as the Disney princess thrown into live-action New York City, Giselle, in "Enchanted." Adams as a human being already feels like the closest we'll ever get to seeing a Disney princess in real life, which made her the perfect casting choice.
"Enchanted" saw Princess Giselle transported out of the 2D animated land of Andalasia and into the busy and bustling 3D world of the Big Apple. It was the standard fish-out-of-water story with a Disney spin, and fans couldn't get enough of it. Now, 15 years later, Giselle and her big sleeves are back, with the all-new tale of "Disenchanted." The film sees Giselle, her husband Robert (Patrick Dempsey), and daughter Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) as they head toward the next phase in their happily ever after,...

In Disenchanted, fifteen years after happily ever after, our favorite princess Giselle (Amy Adams) and her beloved prince Robert (Patrick Dempsey) leave the fairy tale kingdom of Manhattan to move to the fairy tale suburbs of Monroeville. Joining them is Giselle’s stepdaughter Morgan. Disney+ shared the official trailer for the sequel at the D23 expo on September 9. The trailer opens with Giselle explaining to her pigeon and rat friends that “I know that change can be scary, but it can also be exciting.” The happy family goes off to start their new life in Monroeville, and upon seeing their new home, Giselle explains, “It’s all part of the adventure.” Her stepdaughter replies, “That’s not an adventure, that’s a landfill.” “A land filled with adventure!” Giselle, ever positive, quips back. They seriously need some help from Chip and Joanna Gaines. They’re welcomed to their new humble...

D23, the Disney-backed convention in Anaheim, kicked off its first big panel of the day with new trailers for Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted Friday.
Hocus Pocus 2 brings back Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters and takes place 29 years after the 1993 film. Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Hannah Waddingham, Froyan Gutierrez and Tony Hale are also among the cast. Though the stars were not onhand for D23, they did send a video intro to the crowd.
The sequel follows three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem and who must team up to stop the witches and save their town. Kenny Ortega directed the original Hocus Pocus, which became a cult classic despite not being a big box office hit. The Proposal filmmaker Anne Fletcher is directing the new installment.

After 15 years of longing, Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden are finally back with the highly anticipated "Enchanted" sequel, "Disenchanted." The live-action Disney princess movie that should have earned Adams her first Oscar became a beloved fan favorite immediately after release, but fans have been dying to learn what happened after Giselle (Adams) said goodbye to the magical, animated world of Andalasia in favor of her new life with Robert (Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan in New York City. Fortunately, we're finally getting our answer, with "Disenchanted" coming to us sooner than you can sing a happy little working song.
The film comes to us from director Adam Shankman with Disney legend Alan Menken returning for the music. When "Enchanted" first debuted in 2007, Idina Menzel's song as Nancy Tremaine was cut from the final edit. Fortunately, Disney more than made up for the egregious chop by casting...

I already have plans for Thanksgiving. Much like 15 years ago, when I spent part of the 2007 holiday weekend at the movies enthralled by Disney’s fizzy hit Enchanted, I intend to take a break from the Turkey Day parades and football action to savor the sequel. Like the original, Disenchanted tunefully blends animation with live action as it casts a whimsical fairytale spell over our own world. Adorable Amy Adams returns as Giselle, the embodiment of a Disney princess in the flesh, who forsook her fantasy homeland — and the handsome prince — of Andalasia to marry single dad Robert (Patrick Dempsey). In Disenchanted, they move with teenage daughter Morgan (newcomer Gabriella Baldacchino) to the suburbs, where Giselle tangles with the self-styled queen bee of Monroeville, Malvina Monroe, played by supreme scene-stealer Maya Rudolph. Songwriters Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz once again provide the music, having earned three Academy Award nominations for their original songs.

“Enchanted” will always be known as the movie that introduced most of the world to Amy Adams, whisking her from the darling of indie films like “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and “Junebug” to one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.
But a large part of the reason audiences fell in love with Amy Adams is because they fell under the spell of “Enchanted” as a whole. In director Kevin Lima and writer Bill Kelly’s 2007 film, Adams plays Giselle, a maiden of the mythical Andalasia who sings to forest critters and dreams of falling in love. She finds what she’s looking for in Prince Edward (James Marsden), but before they can go live happily ever after, his nefarious mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) sends her flying through a portal to New York City. There, Giselle crosses paths with cynical divorce lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Soon,...
