In the directorial debut by Andrew Mecham and Matthew Whedon, Behind You relies on the classic haunted house trope to tell the story of two sisters, Olivia (Addy Miller) and Claire (Elizabeth Birkner), following the death of their mother, go to live with their estranged aunt, played by Jan Broberg who will be familiar to some from documentary, Abducted in Plain Sight (2017). Already armed with the knowledge that this house is no good, we don’t expect the two siblings to have much in the way of fun in their new abode.
Immediately the children are notified not to go into the basement and are, in addition warned that any strange noises in the house need no investigation on their part and are likely to be easily explained. This is where it lost me and I’m not sure it ever found me again. Within minutes of what we already...

Especially in times like this, a good fright flick can often cure what ails you. A bad one, however, can be a trying thing to sit through. Unfortunately, for a multitude of reasons, the new film Behind You is a bad one. Derivative, lacking in scares, monotonous, and just overall disappointing, it’s a real chore. Despite having some decent performances from the younger actors in the cast, almost nothing lands here. Hitting Digital this weekend, horror fans will be presented with a less than appetizing option. Unless you’re absolutely starved for a genre entry, you can do way better than this. The movie is a horror effort, playing upon the genre’s obsession with the danger that mirrors can hold. After the death of their mother, teenager Olivia (Addy Miller) and her younger sister Claire (Elizabeth Birkner) are being sent to live with their estranged Aunt. Family friend...

The Mirror Crack’d: Mecham and Whedon Wax Derivative in Debut
Bearing all the marks of a strained production is Behind You, the directorial debut of Andrew Mecham and Matthew Whedon (brother of Joss), a familiar horror exercise which can’t quite seem to vocalize an original idea anywhere in its frazzled narrative. With a tiresomely reworked script, wooden performances and cliched tropes, it’s a film which relies solely on some infrequent but inspired visuals considering its limited scope and budget.
When their mother dies and their father is nowhere to be found, sisters Olivia (Addy Miller) and Claire (Elizabeth Birkner) are taken to their estranged Aunt Beth’s (Jan Broberg) home.…...

"Mirror, mirror, open wide..." Vertical Ent. has debuted the first official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Behind You, marking the directorial debut of first-time filmmakers Andrew Mecham and Matthew Whedon. Two young sisters, sent to live with their estranged aunt, find that all the mirrors in her house are covered or hidden. When one of the sisters comes across a creepy mirror in the basement, she unknowingly releases a malicious demon that had haunted her mother and aunt years ago. The horror film stars Addy Miller, Elizabeth Birkner, Philip Brodie, Aimee-Lynn Chadwick, and Jan Broberg as the creepy aunt. This reminds me a bit of the horror films James Wan was making years ago though it doesn't seem to reinvent the wheel, only offer more of the usual supernatural scares. Check it out. Here's the first official trailer (+ promo poster) for Mecham & Whedon's Behind You, from YouTube: Two young sisters,...

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has packed out the distribution slate of its UK offshoot with four new genre titles, including one starring Ron Perlman and another produced by Ben Stiller.
The company first launched its UK releasing arm back in November, setting its sights primarily on the premium VOD market.
Joining the slate is John Swab’s noir crime thriller Run With The Hunted, starring Ron Perlman and Michael Pitt. The movie tells the story of a young boy who commits a noble murder and is forced to run away from his rural hometown, leaving behind his best friend. Years later, he has forgotten his past and become the leader of a band of lost children, while his former best friend takes it upon herself to find the boy who saved her life.
The deal was negotiated between Peter Jarowey and Josh Spector at Vertical with CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.
