Marvel Studios, led by Kevin Feige, has been relatively quiet lately. But at CinemaCon 2024, they made a big splash by revealing several minutes of brand-new footage from one of their upcoming big-budget films. Not content to just tease the audience with Deadpool & Wolverine clips, Feige introduced Anthony Mackie to CinemaCon attendees to offer a sneak peek at Captain America: Brave New World.
Subsequently, Mackie, 45, took the stage to unveil the first look at the forthcoming movie directed by Julius Onah. Feige claimed the movie would be more “grounded” than the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021).

Disney is bringing more than emotional teenagers to CinemaCon 2024, with Marvel Studios ready to unleash superheroes on an already riled-up crowd. In addition to teasing the audience with footage from Deadpool and Wolverine, an F-bomb-dropping Kevin Feige introduced Anthony Mackie to give CinemaCon a taste of Captain America: Brave New World.
Before covering the CinemaCon stage with stars and stripes (metaphorically), Feige added that production on Fantastic Four will start in a few months and confirms that the title of Thunderbolts* does include an asterisk. As for why that is, Feige isn’t about to spill the beans. “We don’t tell you any more about that until the film comes out,” he said. What the hell does that mean? We’ll need to wait to find out.

Marvel Studios has been quiet for a little while, but Kevin Feige and company made a splash at CinemaCon 2024 by showing off several minutes of footage from one of their next big movies.
One of the most astonishing things about the 15-year-long cultural phenomenon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they managed to get a mass audience to care about limp characters like Thor and Captain America. As a comics reader in the 1990s, I recall that those who read Thor and Captain America books were snickered at; the X-Men, Batman, Spider-Man, and the then-rising Image Comics characters were considered way cooler. Thanks to the MCU, however, Captain America (previously played by Chris Evans) was now hip, and his movie "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is often vaunted -- rather debatably -- as one of the best films in the long-running series.

Fanboys will have to wait until San Diego Comic Con to see footage from Marvel Studios’ 2025 release Captain America: Brave New World, but exhibitors do not. On Thursday during Disney’s closing CinemaCon session, the studio showed off the new Anthony Mackie movie that picks up after the events of the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In that series, Sam Wilson takes over the shield left behind by the late Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige called the film “a grounded politically thriller” onstage of Caesars Palace at the Colosseum before introducing Mackie.
Mackie shared how he started in these movies 10 years ago, and loved how he’s now “starring in my own Marvel movie.” Mackie didn’t delay and introduced the footage.

The Disney+ series concluded with Wilson finally taking on the mantle of Captain America, setting the stage for Captain America: Brave New World. However, Mackie told RadioTimes that he’s a little disappointed that we won’t be getting season 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Captain America: Brave New World is going to be released on February 14, 2025, as things stand now as one of the first movies of the MCU’s Phase Five. The movie will star Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, taking over from Steve Rogers, who was played by Chris Evans in the earlier movies. Now, while Mackie will be joined by some old and some new faces, it seems that MCU veterans Sebastian Stan and Daniel Brühl won’t be returning as Bucky Barnes and Baron Zemo, respectively. The news comes from a recent interview Mackie gave to RadioTimes.

With just a single, relaxed, behind-the-scenes pic posted on Instagram by Anthony Mackie, everything changes for Captain America’s next big-screen MCU outing. Formerly known as New World Order, the fourth Cap movie will now proudly bear the title Brave New World, as shown on the back of the chairs in Mackie’s on-set snap. At first glance it’s a superficial change, but it’s probably a sensible idea to move away from a phrase thrown around by George Bush Sr in the ‘90s and embrace something a little more Shakespearean.
‘O brave new world, that has such people in’t.’ So says Miranda in The Tempest. She was, obviously enough, not talking about the cast of Cap 4, but if she had been, she wouldn’t have been wrong. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is in the midst of its run on Disney+, and it’s certainly different from what we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. The series stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. The series has received plenty of praise from audiences, including a few of She-Hulk’s fellow members of the MCU. Anyone even remotely familiar with comic books knows that superheroes never die. Peter Parker’s beloved Uncle Ben may be forever pushing up daisies, but if even Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes can return from the grave, then nobody is gone forever. That might even be true for live-action, as Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing appeared in Star Wars films after their deaths and even a young Mark Hamill popped up in The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.
With these possibilities out there, it’s no wonder that so many Marvel fans hope to see Chris Evans once again as the star-spangled man with a plan. Evans’s Steve Rogers retired the Captain America persona at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Having defeated Thanos alongside the departed Iron Man and other Marvel heroes, Cap ends his cross-time mission to return the infinity stones by rejoining his beloved Peggy Carter in the 1940s,...

With the fourth Captain America film still on the horizon, let's take a moment to celebrate the best Captain America moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The star-spangled man with a plan had quite the run. To make things a little simpler, this list will focus on Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans. The McU's Captain America is currently Sam Wilson, who will be the protagonist of the upcoming fourth film. Sam had a handful of great moments already in the MCU films and "Falcon and the Winter Soldier" — from using his Va therapy training to talk down a would-be supervillain to preserving Isaiah Bradley's legacy and fixing...

This feature contains spoilers for the established MCU.
The different phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to break up the existence of the Avengers as a group. Phase 1 was about building the Avengers into a team, culminating in them assembling and saving the world. Phase 2 was about the Avengers fortifying their world to the point that everyone seemed to be on the cusp of a happy ending…until Ultron happened. Phase 3 was about the repeated destruction of the Avengers, starting with political differences, then going to personal anger, being discarded by an alien threat they weren’t ready for, being reduced to ash by a cosmic wish, and finally being shattered by their greatest victory.
Phase 3 actually ended with the post-credits to Spider-Man: Far From Home in a perfectly fitting scene. Talos asked Nick Fury about the existence of the Avengers going forward and didn’t get any answer.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” premiered on Disney+ on March 19 to bring the heroic action of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen. The series follows the stories of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as they try to forge their own paths forward after the loss of Captain America. Scroll down to watch our six exclusive video interviews with top Emmy contenders from the drama series.
Sam shockingly gives up the vibranium shield which Captain America gifted to him at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” unsure of whether the country will accept a black man taking on the title of Captain America. It’s an idea supported by the reveal of Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), a black super soldier that the government tortured, experimented on, and hid away from the world. The present day government installs war hero John Walker (Wyatt Russell) as the new Captain America.

(This article contains minor spoilers for “Black Widow,” and will also reference the events of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”)
While Natasha Romanoff herself is certainly the main character in “Black Widow” — out now in theaters and on Disney+ — nobody makes a more effective effort to steal the show than David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov, better known as the super soldier Red Guardian. Alexei played the role of Natasha’s father in the 1990s when the two of them, along with Yelena (Florence Pugh) and Melina (Rachel Weisz), lived in the U.S. as a “The Americans”-style spy family.

This article contains Black Widow spoilers.
When we finally catch up with Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour) in the Russian prison where he’s been idling for years, he’s reliving his glory days in the midst of dealing with a string of arm wrestling contenders. Marvel’s Black Widow has already shown us just how strong Alexei is during its long, Ohio-set opening, so we know that the man who was once Russia’s answer to Captain America is going to win every single one of these bouts.
As Red Guardian, Alexei even had his own action figure, and although he’s now pretty out of shape the super soldier is more than a match for any of the younger and more ripped inmates who hope to challenge him. While a collection of men excitedly watch Alexei peacock his strength, he even brags about the time he beat Captain America.

There’s the moment when Sam [Anthony Mackie] is talking to Isaiah Bradley [Carl Lumbly], the first Black Captain America. Sam has to try to convince himself to be disillusioned of the reality of what America is to Black people, then still try to reckon with his place here.

“There are many things that you can be upset and resentful for, but you can only live forward,” suggests Carl Lumbly. The actor is referring to his character Isaiah Bradley on “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+. The TV veteran surprised viewers with his appearance as a former super-soldier and delivered a quiet, heartbreaking performance amid the action set pieces of the Marvel epic. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Viewers quickly discover that Isaiah was a super soldier, just like Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and Captain America. However, he was jailed and experimented on because of his skin color. “What takes place in the past, is not in the past,” explains Lumbly, “it’s in the present with you.” The former soldier carries an immense amount of pain due the injustices he faced. “We knew from the beginning we wanted to position this as a very, very modern superhero show,” said Malcolm Spellman, creator, executive producer and writer of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which sees Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier team up on a global adventure.
The show also tackled a number of relevant social issues including race, privilege, nationalism and the mistreatment of veterans, among other things.
“These characters are dealing with what regular people are dealing with,” said Spellman, who was accompanied by stars Anthony Mackie and Carl Lumbly in a panel for Deadline Contenders TV. “We knew that with the conversations we wanted to have, the best way to do that is if a character embodies something and the fans can see your intentions, but they’re seeing it in a drama that’s playing out on screen.”

What’s exciting about “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is that the limited series format on Disney+ provided a great opportunity for director Kari Skogland to dig deeper into the Captain America mythology than the previous Marvel features. She had a vision for a gritty psychological thriller and took full advantage of the nearly six hours to explore the legacy of the shield on micro and macro levels, with Falcon Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) finally taking on the mantle as a unifying racial force.
Indeed, it’s about Sam’s crucible to become the first Black Captain America in a chaotic, post-Blip world, and teaming up with Bucky/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) after disastrously relinquishing the shield to John Walker (Wyatt Russell).
From a visual standpoint, the shield was the driving force for cinematographer P.J. Dillon. “Kari definitely wanted to take a slightly rougher approach than the features, and...

Many of us enjoyed “Falcon & Winter Soldier,” but according to head writer Malcolm Spellman, a major superhero cameo was nixed by Marvel brass. The series had many things going on between social commentary of being black in America and exploring the exploitation of black citizens at the hands of the American government, highlighted directly with Isaiah Bradley, the black Captain America that the government hid from the public.

To turn Sam Wilson into Captain America, Malcolm Spellman knew that he had to take the Marvel Cinematic Universe into uncharted territory. What resulted was The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios’ heaviest and most violent story to date. Whether it was the inhumane treatment of Black super soldier test subjects such as Isaiah Bradley or the lingering effects of Ptsd in Bucky Barnes and John Walker, Spellman didn’t pull any punches as head writer, and he’s still amazed by the lack of resistance along the way.

Spoiler Alert: For those who still haven’t seen the Season 1 finale of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, “One World, One People”, this interview contains spoilers.
To control spoilers on the internet, Disney held off season finale interviews with the talent, showrunner and director of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier until today. We caught up with the series showrunner and EP and newly hired Captain America 4 scribe, Malcolm Spellman, and grilled him on the obvious cliffhangers –i.e. is Captain America 4 next? Do we have to wait three years for Season 2 of Falcon? Is Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val assembling the Thunderbolts? Seriously, are there two shields: one owned by John Walker and the other by Sam Wilson? All these questions, Spellman shook his head at, saying “I only know what Kevin [Feige] says.”

Photo: ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’/Disney+ ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ aired its season finale this Friday. The show, much like its MCU original series predecessor, ‘WandaVision,’ has further implications for both what the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe has previously set up, and where it is planning to go in the future on both the big and silver screens. The show’s six-episode run gave its fans almost five hours of content revolving around the journeys of Sam Wilson (The Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) in a post ‘Avengers: Endgame’ MCU. Along with the new stories of John Walker, Lamar Hoskins, Karli Morgenthau, Joaquin Torres, Isaiah Bradley. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the first season finale of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” streaming now on Disney Plus.
The six-episode run of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has in many ways centered not on the Falcon or the Winter Soldier individually but on the legacy of Captain America and what it would mean for a Black man to take ownership of the shield and all it symbolizes. Like “WandaVision” before it, the series grappled with loss: where the former focused on individual grief following a traumatic world event, “Falcon” envisions a world in which those losses are restored en masse and subsequently explores what it means to be erased from history, in more ways than one.

This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 6 spoilers and potential spoilers for the wider MCU.
Well, it’s finally here. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6 was an action-packed, but rather messy season finale for the show. Hopefully it isn’t a series finale, and we’ll see it continue in season 2 as Captain America and the Winter Soldier, but that’s an argument for another time.
For now, we’re here (as usual) to dig in to all the Marvel Comics and MCU references the show gave us this episode. We’ll be honest, it was relatively light on those, but there’s still plenty to speculate about. And if you spot anything we missed, be sure to let us know in the comments!
The New Captain America Sam’s incredibly sharp-looking Captain America costume is a perfect live action translation of the version he wore in the comics.

This The Falcon and the Winter Soldier review contains spoilers.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 6
Last week’s episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had a weird feel to it. It was almost like a season finale where there was still more story left, but that would be next year’s problem. It was relaxed, it took its time, and it felt incredibly coherent. Then they got to the cliffhanger, including the mid-credits scene, and it left everyone wanting an action-packed final episode. Well, we got it with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 6, “One World, One People.”
Yes, the finale has plenty of action and it does give us some closure, but it’s also a big mess. While I didn’t come out of it hating the episode or the show, but it just didn’t sit right.

Kevin Feige said earlier this year that Marvel was developing some of its Disney+ shows to run for multiple seasons, and although the news earlier this week that Marvel was submitting “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” in drama at the Emmys already hinted at additional seasons for the Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) comedy hour, the finale more or less confirmed it. In “One World, One People,” the writers revealed the identity of the dangerous Power Broker, but also set the stage for the duo’s next adventure, with John Walker (Wyatt Russell) taking up his comic book alter ego of U.S. Agent. But that’s only scratching the surface of what went down this week.

This article contains spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale.
We made it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier finally finished its run on Disney+ this week, and no one must have been happier about it than the cast and crew of the ambitious Marvel series, who had to fight tooth and nail to get it wrapped up during a global pandemic.
There weren’t too many surprises in the finale, but the show delivered pretty much everything it promised. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) took up the Captain America mantle and tried to resolve the Flag-Smashers situation once and for all, but ended up giving a passionate speech about the nature of terrorism and the grey areas that many politicians would rather pretend didn’t exist instead.
Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) continued to make amends for his actions as the deadly Winter Soldier and found some peace in his resolve,...

The new Cap apparently didn’t think it would happen for him 7 years before “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”
The finale of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” finally gave the people what they want: Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) confirmed as the new Captain America. And we know a lot of fans are (understandably) finding the whole thing extremely heartwarming.
But even more heartwarming is the time 7 years ago, when the comic book version of Sam Wilson became Captain America, and Mackie celebrated the milestone even though he apparently believed it was never going to happen for him.
So quick recap: In the final episode, which we need to just say out loud wrapped up the Flag Smashers and John Walker stuff really uh, uncomfortably quick, Sam debuted the hybrid Falcon/Captain America suit we definitely knew the Wakandans made for him last week.

In its first episode, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” showed glimmers of curiosity about the margins of its universe. No one could have been surprised that this series was largely concerned with the interplay between superheroes — it was made by Marvel as a streaming-television extension of their series of films. But there were, underneath the action, bits of incursion from the outside world: The way, for instance, that Sam Wilson, also known as the Falcon (Anthony Mackie), couldn’t get a loan despite his fame, suggesting that even people with the power of gods can’t always pay the bills, perhaps especially when they are Black (a category that may supersede heroics). There were also occasional gestures at melancholy and rootlessness of a world that had undergone the major upheaval of half its people disappearing, then suddenly coming back, embodied in part by Sam’s mixed feelings about how,...

The penultimate episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier raises the stakes significantly.
While it was not as riveting as previous episodes, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Season 1 Episode 5 still provides jaw-dropping action and sets up the show for an epic season finale.
Just as the episode's title implies, our characters must reconcile with various truths, even if they are unpleasant. Bucky, Sam, Walker, and Dovich must reevaluate where they stand to figure out their next moves.
Let us begin with Walker. Boy, to say that he is in hot water would be the understatement of the century. We knew whatever happened would not be pretty, considering that he brutally murdered a Flag Smasher that had nothing to do with Lemar's death. It was just the first Flag Smasher Walker could get his hands on.
