A #2020FirstLook mystery has been solved.
Back in December — during TVLine’s popular, month-long unfurling of photos from the new year of television — our exclusive look at The Flash‘s first post-Crisis episode raised some questions. Namely, what’s ailing Iris (played by Candice Patton)?

The “Arrowverse” saved its biggest surprises for the final two hours: TV’s Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) met big-screen Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller).
But that wasn’t all, as the five-hour event concluded with the death of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), whose Green Arrow kicked off the DC franchise on the CW, and the multiverse combined into an Earth Prime.
“We knew from last year, quite frankly, that we were going to merge and create Earth CW,” “Arrowverse” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said. “But Earth Prime sounds better. So all the CW shows will be on the same earth.”
Here, Guggenheim talks with Variety about how the “Arrowverse” brought Miller to the DC/CW universe, killing off Oliver (twice), and rebooting the shows.
There has been a fairly strict separation of the DC film and television world. How were you able to combine the two with Miller’s cameo?...

The CW gave Barry Allen and friends an early renewal, and The Flash Season 7 is a go for the fall season!
And you thought Crisis on Infinite Earths was going to be the end of The Flash? Think again! While we're barely halfway through the sixth season of what will soon be the CW's flagship Arrowverse superhero show, the network has already gone ahead and confirmed The Flash Season 7 will speed our way for the 2020-2021 season.
The Flash Season 7 news comes alongside renewals for fellow Arrowverse shows Batwoman, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, as well as Nancy Drew, All American, Charmed, Dynasty, Legacies, Roswell, Nm, and Riverdale.
“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW...

If there’s one thing that’s for certain about the month of May, it’s that The Flash is going to deliver an unforgettable season finale which could leave us talking throughout the summer months. In years prior, we witnessed the beginning of Flashpoint and saw Barry Allen willingly exiling himself to the Speed Force, so odds are we’ll be met with some crazy cliffhanger come next week.
In the meantime, though, the network has served up a bountiful gallery promoting said finale, and it can be viewed below. Aside from letting us know that Team Flash will unite against the persistent threat that’s been Cicada II, the images also preview the next smackdown involving the Scarlet Speedster and Eobard Thawne, who’s now returned to his Reverse-Flash persona.
In my view, the rivalry shared between those two is arguably the greatest the Arrowverse has had to offer.

After tuning in for last night’s episode of The Flash, I must say that I have to hand it to Eobard Thawne. To put it quite succinctly, everything we’ve seen thus far this season has been part of an elaborate plan concocted by him so that he may escape execution in 2049. But depending on how next week’s season finale goes, we could see this show standing alongside Avengers: Endgame so that fans may relentlessly pick apart its time travel logic.
In the meantime, though, the Powers That Be have given us a promo video to chew on, and you can view it at the top of this article. From the look of it, Team Flash will have their hands full because they’ll have to deal with both the Reverse-Flash and Cicada II in the climactic episode. I guess the producers have decided to really up the ante this year.

Despite both Cicadas having been a thorn in the side of the Star Labs crew all season long on The Flash, I’ve found the unfolding situation involving Eobard Thawne and Nora West-Allen to be much more intriguing. Does the incarcerated speedster actually care for her? And exactly what’ll happen when the countdown clock outside of his cell reaches zero?
From the sound of it, we’ll learn the answer to these questions within the next few weeks – and then some. You see, Thawne is slated to return to his dreaded Reverse-Flash persona just in time for the season finale, “Legacy.” And before we discuss this matter any further, give the official synopsis a gander:
Barry Faces Off With Reverse Flash – Barry (Grant Gustin) faces off with his oldest, and most formidable nemesis, Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh). Gregory Smith directed the episode with story by Lauren Certo and teleplay...

A change is afoot on CW’s The Flash. Todd Helbing, who has served as showrunner for the past two seasons, is stepping down at the end of the current fifth season to focus on development under his overall deal with Warner Bros. TV. Eric Wallace, who has been with the show since Season 4, will take over as sole showrunner beginning in Season 6.
Wallace began his tenure on The Flash as a co-executive producer and most recently served as executive producer alongside Helbing in Season 5.
“From his first day on The Flash, Todd Helbing has been a leader on the show, beloved by the cast and crew for his exceptional talent, vision and wonderful attitude, said producer Greg Berlanti in a statement. “We are all sad to see him go, but we will all be better for the many shows he will no doubt create and run in the future.

In addition to possibly losing a major cast member or two this summer, there’s more change on the horizon for The Flash as it heads into its sixth season. Believe it or not, this is at the very top of the food chain, as the DC Comics-based series is set to gain a new head honcho.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, current showrunner Todd Helbing is stepping down so that Eric Wallace may take his place. This isn’t the first time management has experienced a change in status quo, as Helbing took over for Andrew Kreisberg some time ago.
Here’s what fellow executive producer Greg Berlanti had to say about the passing of the torch:

The Flash will be running with a new leader at the helm this fall: Executive producer Eric Wallace will take over as the sole showrunner for Season 6, as Todd Helbing steps down from the position at the end of Season 5 to focus on development.

He has penned such episodes as “The Flash Reborn,” “Run, Iris, Run,” “We Are the Flash,” “Elseworlds, Part 1” and last week’s “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd” installment.

As you may remember, we’d originally presented photos from “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd” a few weeks ago, but those surprisingly focused much more on Jesse L. Martin’s long-awaited return to The Flash. In fact, there was really nothing to offer regarding the super heavyweight fight at that time. And though I’m sure we’re all appreciative of seeing Joe West return to the fold, I’m guessing you may have felt shortchanged.
Fortunately, the network has released yet another batch of images from said episode at the eleventh hour. This isn’t unheard of in my line of work, as producers may hold onto certain info if it’s deemed too spoilerish. In this case, though, it could’ve been due to the visual effects team needing more time to polish the headlining creatures.

Entertaining as the current season of The Flash has thus far proven to be, there’s been something missing: Joe West. Played by Jesse L. Martin, this fine detective has shown himself to be an invaluable ally to the crew at Star Labs, and lent countless heartwarming moments since the pilot episode aired. In other words, he’s every bit as good of a TV cop as he is a TV dad.
Unfortunately, Jesse had to take a leave of absence from the series after injuring his back. As such, his character hasn’t been seen since episode 5×04. But now that the veteran actor has been given ample time to heal, he’ll return just in time for what might end up being March’s biggest Arrowverse showdown.
We are, of course, talking about “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd.”

“King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd, are you kidding me?” No, Iris, we aren’t. The recent promo for next week’s episode of The Flash echoed all our thoughts when Candice Patton’s character reacted with shock at the title of the installment.
“King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd” promises to be a blast for Flash lovers everywhere, as it’ll bring together two of the Scarlet Speedster’s biggest, baddest and weirdest rogues. But what’s caused the giant telepathic primate to be pitted against the ferocious man-shark?
Well, this new synopsis for the fifteenth episode of season 5 teases that an unexpected alliance between Grodd and Team Flash is what brings the pair into battle. However, it seems the real key to stopping King Shark is to appeal to his more human side.
