The concert was the rapper’s veritable homecoming to his birthplace of London, where he lived until moving to Atlanta with his family at age seven. In October, 21 gained his permanent American residency after a four-year battle with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (Ice).

In this world, it’s just us and Jorja Smith’s heavenly vocals. On Wednesday, BBC shared the R&b star’s visit to the Live Lounge, where she performed a soulful rendition of Harry Styles’ chart-topper, “As It Was.”
Backed by soft drums and keyboard, Smith performed a slowed-down rendition that matches the singer’s stunning and soulful vocals. “In this world, it’s just us/You know it’s not the same as it was,” she sang.
During the visit, she also performed a stripped-down version of her U.

Jorja Smith Isn’T One to blindly follow her intuition. Sure, her gut has led her to some very good decisions, like the one she made in 2015 to move to London and pursue a career in music shortly after graduating high school. Within just a few years, the British singer and songwriter had star-making guest appearances with Drake and Kendrick Lamar, a coveted spot on the short list for the Mercury Prize, and a Best New Artist nomination at the 2019 Grammy Awards, next to acts like Dua Lipa and Luke Combs.

“It’s hot as fuck!”
Earlier this month, the Nigerian singer Burna Boy took the stage at Prospect Park in Brooklyn in front of roughly 9,000 people to celebrate the imminent release of his new album, African Giant. The show commenced in the middle of a heatwave, with weather apps saying it felt like 107 degrees. This gave Burna Boy an excuse to remove his shirt almost immediately, but did not otherwise affect his energy. He danced (kicking, grinding). He yelled (“Buuuuuurnaaaaaa!”). Between 2015 and 2017, it seemed as if the the Nigerian genre afrobeats was ready to storm the American mainstream. Drake released a remix of Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba”; Jay-z’s Roc Nation picked up Tiwa Savage; Wizkid signed in turn to RCA; Columbia put its weight behind Tekno’s great single “Pana.” But despite these endorsements, American listeners’ interest in afrobeats largely failed to materialize.
