It's finally happening: we're getting another season of Severance.
Who knew a cliffhanger could keep us on the edge of our seats for nearly two years? It takes a crackpot writing team and a stellar cast to elicit the kind of response that the season one finale got out of its fanbase, and boy, does Severance deliver on both fronts.
The news we've all been anxiously waiting for is here. Season two is coming, and it's sure to be a doozy.
It may be because this millennial's first introduction to Ben Stiller was his three-film stint as Greg Focker, but his directorial deftness still exceeds expectations.
Plus, with a cast teeming with industry legends, it's no surprise that Apple TV was more than happy to gift us another season. So, without further ado, here's everything we know about what's to come for our friends at Lumon Industries.

Like many productions last year, Severance season 2 was brought to a halt due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but Ben Stiller took to X this morning to announce that filming has finally resumed.

Severance stars Adam Scott as Mark Scout, who leads a team at Lumon Industries “whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.”
Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus, and Christopher Walken have all returned for the new season, with a few new additions as well.

Severance is “Back to work.” Director and executive producer Ben Stiller took to Instagram this morning to confirm that the Apple TV+ drama series had returned to production after a months-long delay due to the Hollywood strikes.
Stiller’s Instagram post, captioned “Back to work,” features a black-and-white photo of star Adam Scott running through what appears to be a hallway at Lumon Industries.
Severance had paused production on Season 2 in May when the WGA went on strike, which was then followed by the SAG-AFTRA walkout. With both strikes long resolved, production is now back on course.

Welcome back to Lumon.
“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

Every year, the Kailey Marsh-fronted BloodList makes waves in the industry as it reveals several high-profile horror screenplays that are available in the market. This year, due in part to the strikes, there won’t be a 15th edition, but we still wanted to celebrate the annual list and look back at some of the monstrous success stories.
“While we aren’t releasing the 15th edition in 2023, due in part to the WGA strike and the timeline to when we would accept submissions, it’s a good time to look back at the scripts and writers that have been featured on the list over the years,” Kailey tells us via release.
“From Dan Erickson, creator of the hit series “Severance”, thanking BloodList in his acceptance speech at the Hca’s for “best series writing”, to having countless writers tell me how much landing on the BloodList has done for their careers,...

It was Pride and Drag Queen picket day in Los Angeles, where around 300 people hit up Warner Bros. Discovery to highlight their issues as the strike marches into its second month.
The hundreds of writers attending the picket were provided glitter and stickers for their signs on the first day of Pride month. The event attracted the likes of Severance creator Dan Erickson to Yellowjackets star Liv Hewson.
“When queer writers are under attack,” chanted the crowd, “What do we do? Stand up, fight back.” Others added, “If we don’t get it, shut it down.”
Signs featured sayings such as “Protect All Queer Art” and “I’m Gay For Pay” as Whitney Houston’s I’m Every Woman blasted from a speaker system.

There's a hilarious irony to some of the productions currently halting in the wake of the Writers Guild of America's strike following the failure of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to develop an acceptable deal during contract negotiations. Take, for example, the show "Loot," which features Maya Rudolph as a billionaire looking to distribute her immense wealth, or "Severance," a dystopian thriller about the ways corporations devalue and dehumanize their workforce in increasingly corrupt and terrifying ways. The latter comes from creator and writer Dan Erickson, who conceived the series that would later be directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller, with Aoife McArdle producing and directing as well.
"Severance" was one of the hottest shows of 2022, with many declaring the debut season one of the strongest first seasons of an original series in TV history. But its second season is now on hold according to Deadline,...

"Severance" season two seems to have hit another snag. Production on the show's next installment has screeched to a halt in New York amid the ongoing writers' strike, Deadline reported on May 8.
Just a few days earlier, star Zach Cherry had confirmed that filming was in progress and said "things have been going good" in a May 4 interview with Entertainment Tonight. While Cherry didn't give away much information at the time, he said that when reading the second season's script, "My reaction was the same as my reaction was to the first script in season one, which is, 'This is good!'"
"Severance" season two may have already experienced some setbacks, as in late April, Puck News reported that it had been delayed partly due to animosity between showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman. After a report claimed that behind-the-scenes issues were delaying Season 2 of Severance, executive producer Ben Stiller cleared the air on Twitter, saying the Apple TV+ series’ sophomore outing is on schedule with the “same target air date we’ve always had.” Stiller’s tweet on Friday, April 28, came after Puck News’ Matthew Belloni reported (per The Daily Beast) that Season 2 was behind schedule because of script issues, increased production costs, and tension between co-showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman. Belloni claimed Erickson, the creator of Severance and a first-time TV producer, and Friedman, a veteran TV writer, and producer, “ended up hating each other on the first season” and that Friedman even quit the show before Stiller roped him back in for Season 2. Also involved in the production, according to the report, is House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, who’s helping plot the trajectory of Severance’s second and third season.

TV fans are days away from being inundated with Emmy contenders. Due to tweaks to the Academy’s eligibility timeline, new seasons have to complete their runs prior to May 31 if they want all episodes to be considered for this year’s ceremony — which means weekly releases have to start a bit earlier, hybrid releases may come out in bigger batches, and all-at-once drops could have a slight edge. (Recency bias: It’s real.)
It also means the field as we see it today is about to dramatically shift in the coming weeks. Winter awards always feature a mix of last Emmy season’s favorites and the coming season’s hopefuls, which makes them particularly meaningful for freshman series yet to be considered by TV Academy members. And with Sunday night’s WGA Awards marking an unofficial end to the 2022 calendar year’s awards cycle, at least one major player has emerged.

Writers had to share the spotlight with independent filmmakers and sound designers last night, but they’ll have it all to themselves tonight when the 75th annual Writers Guild of America awards are officially unveiled.
The WGA Awards took place in concurrent ceremonies tonight at New York’s Edison Ballroom and Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza. The Writers Guild of America West (Wgaw) and the Writers Guild of America, East (Wgae) labor unions represent writers in motion pictures, television, cable, digital media, and broadcast news.
Michelle Buteau was hosting from New York and said she felt “luckier than Pete Davidson’s dick” to be presiding over the ceremony. Her raucous monologue included lines such as, “Tom Cruise is more of a ‘Bottom Gun’ than a ‘Top Gun.'”

Sunday’s 75th Writers Guild of America Awards will conclude the guild season (and a four-guild kudos weekend). Will they portend good things to come at the Oscars for the winners?
“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” written by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, and “Women Talking,” written by Sarah Polley, are projected to win the Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay prizes, respectively. The caveat, of course, is that neither is facing its top Oscar competition at WGA due to the guild’s eligibility requirements. Martin McDonagh‘s “The Banshees of Inisherin” script, which won the Golden Globe and BAFTA, is Awol in original, as is Oscar nominee “Triangle of Sadness.” And BAFTA’s adapted screenplay champ “All Quiet on the Western Front,” written by Edward Berger, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell, is ineligible, along with Oscar nominee “Living.”

“I had been with ‘The Staircase’ on my own going crazy for a very long time. And so it was great to watch other people become obsessed with it, and sort of like poison everybody else in the room and become the thing they can’t stop thinking about. So I really enjoyed that space,” says Antonio Campos about what it’s like to collaborate with other writers compared to writing solo. We talked to Campos along with Sharon Horgan (“Bad Sisters”), Jen Statsky (“Hacks”), Dan Erickson (“Severance”) and Al Yankovic (“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”) as part of our “Meet the Experts” Writers Guild Award nominees panel. Watch our roundtable discussion above. Click each person’s name to watch an individual solo chat.
Erickson had a similar experience, starting “Severance” on his own before a writers room was assembled. But teaming up with others takes time to adapt to.

Severance didn’t walk away with any Golden Globes at the ceremony earlier this week but creator and executive producer Dan Erickson says he sure felt like a winner having grown up in Olympia, Washington, a self-proclaimed awards show prognosticator. “I always loved trying to figure who was going to win which award,” Erickson told TV Insider on the red carpet before the ceremony. “People say it shouldn’t be a competition. Everyone who has ever made anything wins, but it’s also fun for former kids like me who were ‘nerds’ about the industry [to be here]. It’s fun.” Erickson admits to not being sure whether or not Severance would catch on — not because of its vision and content but because of the plethora of programming in today’s TV and streaming landscape. “I had totally resigned myself to the fact that there’s just too much TV and that people may not find the show,...

Though most kudos events are competitive, the annual AFI Awards, honoring 21 film and TV works, proved communal. The luncheon Jan. 13 at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills was filled with 250 industry heavy-hitters, but the scene-stealer was someone who had no attachment to any of the honored works: Al Pacino, who closed the event with a 10-minute speech that seemed rambling and hilarious, but proved to be pointed and concluded with a bang.
Before the event started, Universal Pictures chairwoman Donna Langley praised the annual gathering to Variety, saying: “It reminds us of the dignity and elegance of the industry as we gather here to celebrate artistry.”

2022 has us drowning with television entertainment. From an observer’s point of view, it seemed like the big streaming platforms drew us into their tussle for who does it best giving us back-to-back hits every other day of the week and month. And as the year draws to a close, it’s time to look back with hindsight and think about which productions could be considered the best TV shows of 2022.
I have chosen just 10 from the swampy number of TV shows released in 2022. So here are my top 10 best TV shows of 2022 in no particular order. And there’s an extra surprise selection at the end from our editor…
1. “Stranger Things” Season 4
After a three-year hiatus, “Stranger Things” Season four finally made its debut on May 27, 2022, and you bet it was worth the wait. The Netflix production was a blockbuster and by far the biggest and scariest of the Netflix series so far.

Severance is an Apple TV+ sci-fi psychological thriller series created by Dan Erickson, directed by Ben Stiller, and stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, John Turturro and Tramell Tillman.
An excellent series that has been awarded with an Emmy and has received raving reviews. Thrilling, engaging and intriguing, it tells a novel story with interesting characters brought forth with the astounding performances by an A-list cast. It navigates drama, thriller and sci-fi so craftily, it will have you glued to the screen.

“In a moment like that you take a step back and think, ‘Wow! This is something I’ve always dreamed of,'” recalls “Severance” creator Dan Erickson while discussing the Apple TV+ show’s 14 Emmy nominations. He was up for two himself, for Best Drama Series as a producer and Best Drama Writing for the episode “The We We Are.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“I had to figure out where you buy a tux and all this other stuff that was new for me,” he admits. “Severance” is Erickson’s first TV series. His script got the attention of Ben Stiller, who joined on to produce and direct the psychological thriller. It stars Adam Scott as Mark, a man who leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. The ensemble cast also includes Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, John Turturro,...

Choosing the best TV episodes is very different from choosing the best TV.
The best episodes might be outstanding hours of shows that fluctuate in quality, or a pivotal character moment or story beat that contextualizes everything else. Sometimes the best episode is part of an almost embarrassing bounty — just one of many consistently brilliant installments in a TV show that blew away both audiences and critics.
IndieWire’s look at the best TV episodes of 2022 is all those things, populated by our usual suspects of top 2022 TV as well as hours we couldn’t forget and shows we gladly binged in a weekend. There is drama, there is comedy, there is literal “Euphoria.” This list has it all. What it doesn’t have, however, is more than one episode from the same show, in an effort to spread the wealth.

2022 TV did not have to go that hard, but it did. From old favorites consistently outdoing themselves to new shows that enchanted both audiences and critics, it was quite a year for networks, cable, and streaming.
2022’s debut shows took viewers everywhere; the saucy ’70s, the corners of the Star Wars universe, the American South through the eyes of bloodthirsty undead, even a relentlessly stressful Chicago kitchen. Picking only 12 was more daunting than ever, but the IndieWire TV team laughed, cried, and fought it out over our favorites.
Here are the 12 best new TV shows of 2022, in order of premiere date.
1. “Abbott Elementary” (ABC)
Though the pilot premiered in December of 2021, “Abbott Elementary” became 2022’s instant network TV darling, now settling into its second season. Creator Quinta Brunson stars as second-grade teacher Janine Teagues, whose unyieldingly cheery perspective on education can’t help endear her to beleaguered colleagues at a”n underfunded Philadelphia public school.

Patricia Arquette wanted to sever herself during the Covid-19 production lockdowns.
The Emmy-nominated “Severance” star revealed that she was forced into quarantine five times while filming the AppleTV+ series, helmed by Ben Stiller.
“I got put in lockdown like five times so I spent like two and a half months alone on top of normal lockdown,” Arquette exclusively told IndieWire during the 2022 Gotham Awards. “We were shooting during Covid before you could get shots and there’s one scene where I’m yelling at Natalie [Sydney Cole Alexander], I’m very, very close to her, and I’m like, ‘Ehh.’ I know we’re testing, I know I’m not going anywhere at night, but I’m like, ‘What if I got this girl sick? What if she got really sick?’ That was a weird pressure I’ve never felt in acting before.”
Arquette continued, “I never worried about something like that.

While everyone's still recovering from that intense season finale, "Severance" has, by the grace of God, begun production on season 2. That means all our questions that remain unanswered will soon be addressed. In the meantime, we're all left to reflect on the deep and unsettling insights writer/creator Dan Erickson has provided on the show's first nine episodes.
The man behind "Severance" came out of relative obscurity to hit us all, world-weary as we were following two years of a global pandemic, with some profound questions. The show tackled everything from our relationship to corporate culture and its relentless focus on productivity to how grief can permeate all facets of our existence and what it means to live with it.
Erickson, who previously worked with digital comedy production house Super Deluxe, has spoken about being inspired by movies such as "The Matrix" and "The Truman Show," and even cited Mike Judge...
