Bill Hader or, at least, an animated character that he voices, will don a red-and-white striped top hat in a new adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat.”
The “Barry” star will lead a vocal ensemble that also includes Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Bowen Yang (“SNL”), Xochitl Gomez (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”), Matt Berry (“What We Do in The Shadows”) and Paula Pell (“Girls5eva”). Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Dr. Seuss Enterprises officially announced the casting on Monday.
“The Cat in the Hat” will open in theaters on March 6, 2026. Although the book is a children’s classic, it has a checkered cinematic legacy. A 2003 live-action adaptation, starring Mike Myers as he was riding high off of “Austin Powers,” collapsed at the box office. It earned $134 million on a $109 million budget and became a money-loser when marketing and distribution costs were factored into the equation. It...

David Seidler, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “The King’s Speech,” died Saturday while on a fly-fishing expedition in New Zealand. He was 86.
“David was in the place he loved most in the world — New Zealand — doing what gave him the greatest peace which was fly-fishing,” his longtime manager Jeff Aghassi said in a statement. “If given the chance, it is exactly as he would have scripted it.”
Seidler won the Academy Award for best original screenplay for 2010’s “The King’s Speech,” directed by Tom Hooper and starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. The historical drama also went on to win best picture, best director and best actor.
The stage version of “The King’s Speech” has been translated to more than a half-dozen languages and has been performed on four continents. After being staged at the Wyndham’s Theatre on London’s West End in 2012, the play was supposed to head to Broadway,...

Oprah Winfrey held back tears during the airing of her ABC special, Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution Monday night as she spoke to a woman who participated in Oprah Daily’s “The State of Weight” Panel last September who’s since lost 85 pounds after using an unnamed weight loss medication.
“There is now a sense of hope, and you no longer blame yourself,” Winfrey said as her voice began to crack. “When I tell you how many times I have blamed myself because you think, ‘I’m smart enough to figure this out,’ and then to hear all along it’s you fighting your brain.”
The special, which will be available for streaming on Hulu on Tuesday along with an exclusive audience Q&a, brought together medical experts, patients and members of the pharmaceutical and weight loss industries to discuss the growing popularity of weight loss drugs such as Ozempic,...

[This story contains spoilers from Season 12, Episode 7 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, “The Dream Scheme.”]
Life imitated art this week in the world of Curb Your Enthusiasm when a real-life Hollywood billboard ended up vandalized, just like the plot of last week’s episode.
As viewers will recall, the sixth episode in the final season of Larry David’s HBO comedy saw Susie Greene (played by Susie Essman) unveiling her new business venture, Catch as Caftan, which she was promoting on a billboard on Santa Monica Boulevard. During the episode, the billboard gets graffitied — with two, large penises cleverly located — and the updated work of art ends up sending sales through the roof. During last week’s chat with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Jeff Schaffer revealed the marketing stunt and had dared adoring Curb artists to mimic the show’s plot.

A tale of disability, abuse, expectations and family secrets, “She Looks Like Me” from director Torquil Jones has a headstart on most documentaries, given its subject matter’s winding twists and turns. Some key details end up obscured — there’s enough real-life material here to fill an entire miniseries — but the film has an alluring atmosphere, and is rife with enough intimate re-enactments, to be occasionally absorbing.
Dreamlike hymns echo off the walls of an ornate church in the movie’s opening scenes. On the heels of What If…? season one’s warm reception, Marvel Studios head of streaming Brad Winderbaum knew that now was the time to pursue his longtime dream of reviving the beloved Fox Kids show X-Men: The Animated Series. The series aired from 1992 to 1997, and Winderbaum, as executive producer, is on the verge of releasing X-Men ’97, which picks up right where the original series left off as the classic X-Men characters are forced to find a way forward without the leadership of Professor Charles Xavier.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige required only two conditions before giving his blessing on the latest Disney+ animated series.
“Following the success of What If…?, when we were able to make more animated shows, [X-Men ’97] was my first idea out of the box. And Kevin [Feige] was like, ‘Alright, if we can get the [original] cast and we can get the song, let’s do it.

An open letter condemning Jonathan Glazer’s Zone of Interest Oscars acceptance speech has been signed by more than 450 Jewish Hollywood professionals.
The group consists of actors, executives, directors, creators, producers and representatives denouncing Glazer’s controversial comments made when accepting the Academy Award for best international film on March 10.
“We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination,” the letter reads.
In his acceptance at the 2024 Oscars, Glazer read from a prepared speech to thank his partners and then make a statement addressing the current Israel-Gaza conflict.
“All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say, ‘Look what they did then’; rather, ‘what we do now,’” Glazer said. “Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst.

Over the years, filmmaker Alex Proyas has maintained that his 1994 feature The Crow should not get a reboot out of respect for Brandon Lee, his star who died in an on-set accident. Now, after years of development, a The Crow reboot is indeed ready for release, and Proyas is once again expressing his concerns.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes,” Proyas wrote on Facebook Monday, along with a link to an article noting that The Crow reboot’s trailer received numerous dislikes on YouTube. “The Crow is not just a movie. Five members of the LGBTQ community are leveling accusations of sexual assault or coercion against drag performer Shangela, who settled a previous rape case that allegedly took place on the set of an HBO series through mediation in February.
In a Rolling Stone article published on Monday, the five accusers recount incidents in which Darius Jeremy Pierce, the man behind the drag persona Shangela, who appeared in season two of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and HBO’s drag-centric show, We’re Here, allegedly assaulted individuals or attempted to get them inebriated beyond the ability to give consent. All five told the magazine that they came forward after HBO production assistant Daniel McGarrigle filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Pierce of drugging and raping him after a 2020 wrap party; the case was settled in mediation after a judge tossed two of the charges. Tallulah Willis revealed this week she was diagnosed with autism last summer, writing on Instagram that the discovery has “changed my life.”
Willis, the youngest daughter of Bruce Willis and ex-wife Demi Moore, posted an old family video of herself as a child playing with her father’s ear while on a red carpet to Instagram on Saturday.
“Tell me your [sic] autistic without telling me your [sic] autistic,” Willis captioned the post. In the comments section, she elaborated: “Actually this is the first time I’ve ever publicly shared my diagnosis,” she wrote. “Found out this summer and it’s changed my life.”
Willis’ announcement is not the first time she has spoken candidly about her health. In an essay published in Vogue last summer, she reflected on her struggle with anorexia, which she said at the time she had dealt with for four years.

Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s company T-Street has signed a two-picture producing deal with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, who took over as the studio’s co-chairs and CEOs in 2022, orchestrated the deal. It marks the producers’ first collaboration with Warner Bros., having previously worked with Lionsgate on the box office hit “Knives Out,” Netflix on its sequel “Glass Onion,” Disney on “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and Focus Features on the neo-noir thriller “Brick.” It’s unclear if Johnson will direct either of the two films that he’ll be overseeing at Warner Bros.
“Mike and Pam’s renewed commitment to original storytelling and the theatrical experience make Warner Bros. Discovery an ideal place to help us bring the filmmakers we love to audiences around the world on a grand scale,” said Johnson and Bergman. “We’re thrilled to have them as partners.

Rian Johnson is headed to the Warner Bros. lot.
The filmmaker’s T-Street banner, which he runs with producing partner Ram Bergman, has inked a two-picture producing pact with Warners, the studio announced Monday. It’s the latest in a series of deals Warners has inked with top talent as it shores up its relationships across Hollywood, even as it has taken some reputational hits in some creative corners for shelving several films. In recent months, Tom Cruise, Margot Robbie and Ryan Coogler have all inked deals with the studio.
As a director, Johnson is known for mind-bending features like Looper, big budget genre entry Star Wars: The Last Jedi and original who dunnit film series Knives Out, which has included sequel Glass Onion and an upcoming third installment, which is aiming to film later this year for Netflix. After making their first narrative feature “Nyad,” which debuted last year and earned Oscar nominations for the film’s stars Annette Bening and Jodie Foster, Academy Award winning directors Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (“Free Solo”) are returning to their documentary roots with “Photographer.”

National CineMedia grew its fourth quarter profit, despite overall revenues remaining virtually unchanged, the in-theater advertising company announced Monday.
The net income attributable to National CineMedia came to $23.7 million for the three months to Dec. 28, 2023, against net income of $6.1 million in the comparable year-ago period. Overall fourth quarter revenue was $90.9 million, a shade lower than $91.7 million in the same period of 2022.
The revenue breakout showed national advertising revenue grew 2 percent to $71.9 million, which offset a slight decrease in local and regional ad revenue at $16.2 million, compared to a year-earlier $17.1 million.

More than 450 Jewish creatives, executives and Hollywood professionals have signed an open letter denouncing Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” Oscar speech.
The list of co-signees provided to Variety Monday morning covers a broad swath of the industry including actors, executives, creators (Amy Sherman-Palladino), directors, producers and representatives. About 50 more individuals have added their names since the open letter was first published.
The group’s statement says: “We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination.”
Glazer declined to comment.
With such high-profile co-signees as Jennifer Jason Leigh, “La La Land” producer Gary Gilbert and “The Americans” creators Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, the statement adds, “The use of words like ‘occupation’ to describe an indigenous Jewish people defending a homeland...

Days after Don Lemon said that Elon Musk canceled his partnership with X hours after conducting an interview with the tech mogul, the former CNN anchor on Monday dropped the first episode of The Don Lemon Show on YouTube and podcast streaming platforms, featuring a contentious interview with Musk.
Throughout their conversation, Lemon brought up questions related to Musk’s drug use, his affiliations with Donald Trump, advertisers pulling ads off X, hate speech on the app and other topics that the South African businessman appeared to deem troublesome.
Ten minutes into the interview, following a discussion about Musk’s political leanings, Lemon noted that the X owner recently met with Trump in Florida and asked what they spoke about. “I was at a breakfast at a friend’s place and Donald Trump came by—that’s it,” Musk said. Sydney Sweeney’s had a huge 2024 so far — and her most startling act of the year is still ahead.
In the early weeks of the year, her Sony Pictures romantic comedy with Glen Powell, “Anyone But You,” showed remarkable staying power at the box office, eventually building from a tepid early result amid holiday competition to over $200 million at the global box office on the strength of word-of-mouth. Sweeney’s Fifty-Fifty Films shingle produced the film, as well as the upcoming “Immaculate,” which is to be released by Neon on March 22.
In “Immaculate,” Sweeney plays Cecilia, an American nun who arrives at an Italian convent, hoping to find safety and solace. The seeming miracle of her shortly thereafter becoming pregnant — a 21st-century answer to the Virgin Mary — quickly turns sinister, as Cecilia’s body and her faith both rapidly turn against her.

Attorneys for “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed asked a judge on Friday to release her from jail and to grant a new trial, citing a recent New Mexico Supreme Court ruling in another case.
Gutierrez Reed faces up to 18 months in prison for negligently loading a live bullet into Alec Baldwin’s gun and causing the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. She has been held since her conviction on March 6 at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility, where she awaits her April 15 sentencing.
Her attorneys, Jason Bowles and Monnica Barreras, argued in the motion that a state Supreme Court opinion issued on Thursday will “almost certainly” lead to her conviction being overturned.
The challenge relates to the instructions that were given to jurors. The jurors were asked to find that Gutierrez Reed loaded live ammunition into Baldwin’s gun, “and/or” that she failed to properly check the ammunition.

Production is now underway on “A Complete Unknown,” the coming Bob Dylan feature directed by James Mangold and starring Timothée Chalamet as the iconic American musician. Set photos from the New York City shoot have emerged online, offering a first look at the 28-year-old actor in costume.
“A Complete Unknown” will follow Dylan’s emergence in the New York folk music scene during the 1960’s after the singer-songwriter moving from Minnesota to New York.
In the first look from set, Chalamet can be seen wearing an old-looking scarf and layering up with some gloves and a thick jacket. Looks like a snowy day in New York for young Bob Dylan. Of course, he’s lugging around a guitar too.
Along with Chalamet, the cast for “A Complete Unknown” is also reported to include Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash.

Elon Musk told Don Lemon on his new YouTube series “The Don Lemon Show” that he has no intentions of financially supporting Donald Trump.
In a one-on-one interview with the X (formerly Twitter) owner, Lemon questioned Musk about a wide array of topics, including his Tesla business, the way misinformation is spread on the social media platform and his breakfast outing with the former president.
“Speaking of Maga, you recently met with Donald Trump in Florida, what did you guys talk about?” Lemon questioned on Monday’s episode.
“I was at a breakfast at a friend’s place, and Donald Trump came by. That’s it’s,” Musk replied, stating that his intention of going to Florida wasn’t in any way related to meeting with Trump. The tech giant added that he was “fine” with the idea of Trump stopping by for breakfast.

From eighth billing to bankable leading lady, Immaculate director Michael Mohan has played a key role in Sydney Sweeney’s rise to superstar status.
In 2017, Mohan helped cast Sweeney in the ‘90s coming-of-age series, Everything Sucks!, and while she was only billed eighth in the closing credits, her character played an integral part in the show’s central coming-out story. Mohan was certainly impressed by the Washington native’s acting ability, but it was her extracurricular efforts that indicated she was bound for great things, as she spent her downtime learning the ins and outs of production. Unfortunately, in April 2018, despite a passionate fanbase, Everything Sucks! became one of Netflix’s first of many more heartbreaking cancellations. However, within a matter of months, it opened the door for Sweeney to join the cast of HBO’s eventual hit, Euphoria.

U.K.’s Gb News Broke “Impartiality” Rules With Politicians Acting as News Presenters, Says Regulator
The upstart Gb News network, the U.K. equivalent of Fox News Channel, has been found to have breached media regulations around politicians moonlighting as TV news presenters.
“A series of Ofcom investigations today concluded that five programs on Gb News featuring politicians acting as news presenters broke broadcasting due impartiality rules,” Ofcom, Britain’s media regulator, said in a decision on Monday. Under the UK’s Broadcasting Code, TV news must be presented “with due impartiality,” which bars politicians from reading the news or interviewing a news subject, “unless, exceptionally, there is editorial justification.”
Gb News, the U.K. news channel launched in June 2021 as a right-leaning alternative to the likes of the BBC and ITV News, was found by Ofcom on five occasions to have wrongfully featured politicians as news channel hosts who are otherwise seen on British television guests as partial members of Parliament.

As accusations of abuse against Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider continue to arise from the new docuseries “Quiet on Set,” his former assistant Amy Berg recounted her stress-inducing experience working under whom she called a “psychological tormenter.”

Former top Nickelodeon executive Dan Schneider responded to child sexualization and toxic workplace claims made in the Investigation Discovery’s documentary series “Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” saying that if there was an “actual problem with the scenes” they would have been taken down by now.

After a second man was charged in connection with the theft of a pair of ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, the shoes worn by Judy Garland are going up for auction.
Collector Michael Shaw, who owned the slippers when they were stolen, was reunited with the priceless piece from the 1939 film on Sunday during a private ceremony at the Judy Garland Museum. He had loaned the pair to the museum in August 2005 for what was meant to be a 10-week viewing tied to the annual Judy Garland Festival, but the shoes were swiped a week later.
Upon receiving the sequin-covered shoes nearly 20 years later, Shaw has decided to hand them to Heritage Auctions, which will take the famed slippers on a world tour, including stops in Los Angeles, New York City, London and Tokyo. Afterwards, the shoes will go up for auction in December.

Even for the man or woman who “has everything,” there may still be unfulfilled need for a reconstructed Triceratops skeleton dating from approximately 67,000,000 B.C. Think how it will look in one’s Great Room! That’ll show arrivistes whose trophies are from mere living species.

Tentatively titled The Hands The Held the Knives, Peck is not only directing but producing the film under his Velvet Films banner alongside Jigsaw Productions, with Imagine Documentaries, Anonymous Content, and Double Agent, who are also financing the project.
Peck’s take is being described as a “documentary thriller, in the tradition of Graham Greene or John Le Carré.” Per Monday’s announcement, Peck is going deep into the politics of Haiti, its relationship with the United States, and the corrupt business empires and criminal organizations which have now rendered the country a hellscape for its citizens.
The film will take audiences right up to the present moment, per the producers, “as ruthless gangs backed by oligarchs with well-paid lobbyists in Washington,...

Director Raoul Peck, who helmed the 2016 documentary “I Am Not Your Negro,” has announced his new documentary project. “The Hands That Held the Knives” will detail the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse in 2021.
The documentary, which took over two years to make, is said to be in the same vein as the works of Graham Greene and John Le Carré. Peck was given access to the people involved in Moïse’s killing, and even secretly filmed in Haiti’s prison system. The documentary will lay out Haitian politics, its relationship to the U.S. and the corruption and criminality the country deals with, including drugs and weapons trafficking.
“I am eager to tell my country’s real story beyond the usual exotic clichés and preposterous clickbait,” Peck said in a prepared statement. “I want to reveal for once, without holding back, the core stories and real reasons for Haiti’s tragic situation.

As the PR war between Disney and Nelson Peltz’s Trian Partners heats up ahead of an April 3 shareholder meeting, proxy voting advisor Glass Lewis is backing Disney and CEO Bob Iger in their battle for control of the Hollywood studio.
Glass Lewis in a Monday report cited by Disney recommended the studio’s shareholders vote for its slate of proposed boardroom nominees and “withhold” on the board nominees put up by Trian Partners and Blackwells.
“In its recommendation, Glass Lewis clearly identifies the strength of the diverse skillsets across our board nominees, the credibility of our succession planning process and recent changes to the board and compensation program and the promise of our recent efforts to bolster growth and value creation to position Disney for the future.” Mark Parker, chairman of The Walt Disney Company board of directors, said in a statement on Monday.
