John Philip Sousa (1854 – 1932) was a prolific American musician and composer. His father was of Portuguese ancestry and his mother of German/Bavarian. He wrote many remarkable military marches and other patriotic music. His best known works are "Semper Fidelis", "The Stars and Stripes Forever", and "The Washington Post".
