A glamorous Kim Novak-like blonde, Julia (Lydia Bosch), is devastated by the death of her lover, an artist and political prisoner, who died in exile. To cope with her depression she leaves Madrid for her family's remote rural estate, "Llendelbarca," an enchanting and picturesque home steeped in memories of her own childhood. Upon her arrival she is reunited with her family's servants, Pilara (Ana Fernández), Gala (Julia Gutiérrez Caba) and Pilara's son Juanito (Manuel Lozano). Julia's presence at Llendelbarca stirs up old memories and reconnects the woman to a simpler country life, while infusing the town with her exotic and radical sensibilities. Julia is an intoxicating and worldly rebel who delights in shocking the traditional villagers and exciting those looking for escape. Juanito, a sensitive dreamer who delights in the weekly showings of American movies at the village bar, finds a kindred spirit in Julia who instantly takes a liking to the young boy. Julia's presence also inspires Juanito's retiring schoolmaster Orfeo (Iñaki Miramón) who shyly begins to share his own artistic passions with the beautiful newcomer. The simple life at Llendelbarca, with Pilar and her family, rejuvinates Julia's waning spirit and gives her the strength to move on with her life.
