- Ace rock drummer Scott Columbus was born on November 10, 1956. Scott joined the line-up for the hugely popular and successful heavy metal outfit Manowar in 1983; he was reportedly discovered by a female fan of the group beating aluminum in a local foundry. Columbus took a hiatus from the band in the early 1990's, but rejoined the line-up for Manowar in 1994. A furiously aggressive left-handed drummer, Scott played a kit made out of stainless steel called the Drums of Doom because his fierce drumming technique was too rough on standard kits which had to be regularly replaced. Columbus left Manowar for a second and final time in the summer of 2008 so he could pursue a solo project entitled Instrumental. He lived in Syracuse, New York with his girlfriend Nancy and was the father of a son. Scott died quite suddenly at the tragically young age of 54 on April 4, 2011.
