Vanessa Joy Minnillo was born on November 9, 1980, at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. She is the daughter of Helen Ramos Bercero and Vincent Charles Minnillo, a crew member on an Air Force aircraft (he has since retired). Her father is American, from Ohio, and is of half Italian, one quarter Russian-Jewish, and one quarter Irish, descent. Her mother is a Filipina, whom he met while based in the Philippines. Vanessa and her family, which includes her brother Vincent, who is two years older than she, lived in California, Nevada, Florida, Germany and Japan, before settling down in Charleston, South Carolina. Vanessa attended seven different schools during this time, and participated in cheerleading and volunteer work for numerous local charities.
Her parents divorced in 1986, and Helen was awarded custody of both children; Vanessa only saw her father on weekends. When her mother remarried, the family moved to Turkey, where her new stepfather, who was in the U.S. Air Force, was assigned. They were forced to evacuate when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990, leading to the Gulf War of 1991, and Helen brought the kids back to the U.S., leaving them with their father until she could get back on her feet. That would be the last time that Vanessa would see her mother, who never returned. Instead, Vanessa began a new life, along with her brother, living with her father Vince and his new wife, Donna, whom she now calls her "best friend".
With her life more settled, Vanessa began to turn her attention to the Miss South Carolina Teen USA beauty pageant in 1996. She had loved cheerleading since she was a young child, and was very keen on performing in front of an audience. With her unaffected style and natural ebullience, she easily won over the judges, sweeping all the categories before winning the crown. Two years later, on August 17, 1998, she competed in the Miss Teen USA pageant. Though it was preempted by CBS' live coverage of a speech by President Bill Clinton regarding the Monica Lewinsky ordeal; in the end, she wowed the Miss Teen USA judges just as she had the Miss South Carolina Teen USA judges two years earlier. It was her second pageant, and her second victory.
In the three years since handing over her Miss Teen USA crown, Vanessa has concentrated on college, acting and modeling. She has a promising future, and was recently one of the finalists in E!'s competition to find a replacement for Brooke Burke as hostess for the show, Wild On... (1997). Though the job ultimately went to Cindy Taylor, Vanessa made a big impression with "Wild On..." fans across the world, and hopes to continue working in television for some time to come.
Vanessa began dating singer Nick Lachey in 2006, shortly after Jessica Simpson filed for divorce from him. The couple married in 2011, and have three children.- Actor

Neile Adams was born in Manila, the Philippine Islands on July 10, 1932 as María Ruby Neilam Arrastia y Salvador of Eurasian descent as her DNA attests. Her bloodline, to clarify erroneous reports, consists of 26% mixture of Chinese, Japanese, Mongolian, 7% Polynesian and 67% Spanish Basque and English, although her maternal grandmother's name was changed from Sulse to Schultz when that family emigrated to Spain from Germany. She spent WW2 in Japanese-occupied Manila, came to America in 1948, graduated high school the following year from Rosemary Hall (now Choate Rosemary Hall) in Greenwich, Connecticut and immediately went to New York to study dancing where she got a scholarship at the Katherine Dunham School of Dance. To ward off being cast exclusively as a "señorita" or in just plain old Spanish-speaking parts because of her name, her mother claimed Adams was her father's middle name. Never having seen nor met her father she soon became Neile Adams.
In 1953, she was cast as a dancer in "Kismet" and shortly became one of the lead dancers in the show. When the show closed in 1955 she was offered a showy role in the Versailles Nightclub where George Abbott and Bob Fosse caught her performance and offered her the Carol Haney role in "The Pajama Game" just as soon as her contract ended with the club. To meet both deadlines she performed at night and rehearsed during the day. She met Steve McQueen shortly thereafter and married four months after their formal introduction. The couple had two children, Terry McQueen (born 1959) and Chad McQueen (born 1960). The marriage legally ended in 1972. Neile is the grandmother of actor Steven R. McQueen. She remarried in 1980 to Alvin Toffel, a political campaign manager and president of the Norton Simon Museum. This union lasted until Toffel's passing in 2005.
Broadway credits: featured dancer in "Kismet", starred in "Pajama Game" opposite John Raitt and Julie Wilson, and Broadway-bound "At The Grand" opposite Paul Muni. She married McQueen while filming MGM's This Could Be the Night (1957) when she was under contract. Adams opened the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas in 1958 with Dick Shawn and Vivian Blaine. Television revues later became her main staple as she raised her family. She appeared on such programs as Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall (1948), The Bob Hope Show (1950), The Pat Boone-Chevy Showroom (1957), The Patrice Munsel Show (1956), The Eddie Fisher Show (1957) and The Walter Winchell Show (1956), among others. She played opposite McQueen and villainous Peter Lorre on a macabre episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) and starred in two other Hitchcock episodes. In the '60s and '70s she guest-starred in almost all the popular dramatic shows, such as The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964), Vega$ (1978), Fantasy Island (1977), The Rockford Files (1974), The Bionic Woman (1976) and Love, American Style (1969), to name a few. On film, she played Burt Reynolds' wife in Fuzz (1972), was directed by Billy Wilder in Buddy Buddy (1981) and appeared in Chu Chu and the Philly Flash (1981). Adams continues to perform her cabaret shows in L.A., New York, London and Paris.- Actress

Jake Zyrus (known as Charice Pempengco prior to his gender transition) was born in Cabuyao, Philippines. When he was three years old, he witnessed his abusive father point a gun at his mom during an episode of domestic violence. Along with his mother and younger brother Carl, they left their father searching for a better life.
Zyrus was very young when his mother noted that his rendition of Happy Birthday was very high-pitched and on-key. When he was four years old, his mother Raquel came home to discover Zyrus standing on top of the kitchen table singing Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. She initially thought the radio was on, and Celine was singing. Zyrus had learned to operate the karaoke machine by observing his mother, who was a singer in a band, practice with her bandmates. It was then that Zyrus' singing talent was discovered.
At the age of seven, with money hard to come by and with little food to put on the table, Zyrus urged his mother to teach him how to sing and let him join singing contests to help support their family. He went around the provinces of Laguna and Batangas, entering amateur singing contests in town fiestas and later, on little known shows on television. He started winning most of the competitions he joined, often borrowing money from friends and neighbors for the bus fare and then paying them back after winning. He estimates he joined 80-100 singing contests all in all.
In 2005 when he was twelve years old, he joined Little Big Star, a singing contest for children on TV network ABS-CBN, loosely patterned after American Idol. He was eliminated after the first round but was called back as a wild card contestant later on in the show. From there, he was a consistent top scorer in the elimination rounds but only wound up as a third placer in the finals due to low text votes. Dejected as he was counting on winning the grand prize of P1 million pesos ($20,000) for his family, he wanted to give up on singing. He made minor appearances on TV shortly after Little Big Star, dancing backup and singing in the background on variety shows, but he had fallen off the radar. He eventually decided to give it all up and return to regular schooling.
Little did he know that David Dueñas (a.k.a FalseVoice), a fan of him, was so in awe of his powerful vocals and performances on Little Big Star that he started uploading them on YouTube. His videos were racking up millions of hits online, and one of his videos caught the eye of StarKing, a Korean variety show. In 2007, StarKing invited then 15-year old Zyrus to come to South Korea to perform. Dressed in pink and wearing pigtails, Zyrus blew the roof off the set as he performed a hair-raising and powerful rendition of And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going from the Dreamgirls soundtrack. The studio audience was floored to hear such a big voice coming out of such a small child.
The video of that StarKing performance went viral on YouTube, garnering millions of views until the producers of The Ellen Degeneres Show took notice. Ellen aired an on-air invitation for Zyrus to come to her show. A month later, in December 2007, Zyrus and his mother flew to America for the first time to appear on the show, where Zyrus sang And I Am Telling You and Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You. The audience was blown away, giving Zyrus the first two standing ovations she had ever received in his life. Zyrus went home to the Philippines, an instant celebrity.
In May 2008, Zyrus was invited to guest on Oprah, for a themed show called World's Smartest Kids. He sang "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston and bought the audience to their feet, giving him another standing ovation. No one was more impressed than Oprah Winfrey herself, though, incredulously asking him, "Girl, that was fantastic! Who are you?!"
The next day, Charice and his mother were already on a plane waiting to take off for the Philippines when Oprah called to stop the plane and bring them back to her office. Oprah had been so impressed with the child and couldn't get him off her mind. Oprah listened to Zyrus' story and told him, "Don't lose hope. I promise you something big will happen." She then called legendary music producer David Foster who took Zyrus on under his wing.
Zyrus, as David Foster's protégé, suddenly found himself singing duets with Andrea Bocelli in Italy and with his idol Celine Dion in Madison Square Garden. He also shared the stage with other big names such as Michael Buble and Josh Groban. He performed at three of President Barack Obama's pre-inauguration galas and made a cameo appearance as himself in 2009's Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. He also appeared on the Oprah show three more times after his initial appearance, the most recent one being last May 11, 2010, a day after his 18th birthday, to debut his international album CHARICE. His single Pyramid with singer Iyaz topped the Billboard Dance chart at #1. During its first week, his album sales landed him in the #8 spot on the US Billboard Hot 200 chart, making him the first-ever Asian artist in history to enter the Billboard top 10.
In June 2010, it was announced that Zyrus landed a recurring guest role on the hit TV series Glee, playing the character of Sunshine Corazon, a Filipino foreign exchange student to rival actress Lea Michele's character, Rachel Berry.- Producer

This alluring hazel-eyed 1940s leading lady was born Ardis Ankerson on the Philippine island of Negros, one of two siblings. Her father was Otto Peter Ankerson who held an important position as overseer of a large sugar plantation. Following the premature death of her mother in 1925, Ardis and her sister were packed off to San Antonio to complete their education. Ardis was voted Freshman Class Beauty of 1934 at Texas State College, acted in amateur dramatics and worked hard on diction and improvisation. By then, she was clearly determined to become a professional actress. Following her graduation, she moved to New York where she studied drama under the tuition of actor Richard Gaines (and eventually married him in 1936). Gaines helped her secure acting work in stock companies under the Federal Theatre Project, sponsored by the Works Progress Administration as part of the New Deal. While in New York, Ardis successfully auditioned for Paramount, but studio executives dropped the option to sign her due to what they deemed her excessive salary demands. Warner Brothers viewed the screen test some time later and proved less squeamish about picking her up. With the inevitable name change prompted by the studio, 'Brenda Marshall' went Hollywood. During her tenure in Tinseltown, she made it clear to friends and co-workers alike, that she be addressed not by her studio-fabricated cognomen, but by her given name (with the addition of her married name of Gaines).
Brenda made an almost immediate impact in her fourth outing for Warners as Doña Maria, providing the romantic interest in Errol Flynn's classic swashbuckler The Sea Hawk (1940). This should have established the brunette beauty as a tangible box office attraction. Alas, only routine material followed and Brenda saw out the remainder of her contract as exotic leads in second features like East of the River (1940), South of Suez (1940) and Singapore Woman (1941). There were to be two more A-grade productions, but Brenda ended up playing second fiddle to James Cagney's aviation heroics in Captains of the Clouds (1942) and was overshadowed in the charisma department by Joan Fontaine and Alexis Smith in The Constant Nymph (1943). By 1950, she quit the acting profession and devoted herself to other causes. A year after her divorce from Gaines in 1940, Brenda had wed the actor William Holden in Las Vegas. She was of help to him in setting up the Mt. Kenya Safari Club as a means of protecting African wildlife. The couple seemed content for a while. However, the marriage proved to be increasingly volatile and began to unravel by 1963, ending up in divorce eight years later. Brenda died from throat cancer in Palm Springs in 1992 at the age of 76.- Actress

Born in the Philippines, Paolo is one of two children. The Montalban family moved to America when Paolo was just one year old. He lived in an apartment in Manhattan, and then in New Jersey, where he grew up in a neighborhood surrounded by mostly Filipinos. He grew up in a musical family: his father played the piano, two aunts studied the violin and piano at Juilliard, and his mother was involved in the theater while a student at St. Paul's College in Manila. Like many other Filipino American children, he learned how to play the piano, as well as the violin and saxophone. And like many Filipino American children, he doesn't play anymore. When Paolo was attending grade school, he auditioned for his school's production of "Oliver" and got the lead role.
Paolo graduated with a pre-med course at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After graduation, he had his eyes set on Broadway. His parents only wish was for him to get a college degree, which he did. However, after he got his diploma, he went straight for Broadway. His parents did support him in his decision primarily because he had a New York agent during his last year in college, with whom shortly after signing, secured him his first professional job on a national tour with "Man of La Mancha".
Paolo's success has convinced many Filipinos that he is the next best thing to happen to them since Lea Salonga. In an interview, he laughs saying "I wouldn't put myself in the same scale. She's a star. I'm just a guy." Though he may think he is just a guy, he too is considered a star to many people. Paolo understands the disadvantages of being an Asian actor in Hollywood. There isn't much in Hollywood for a stereotypical Asian who knows Kung-fu, who's a gangster or delinquent, or a wise munk of some sort. Still, nothing is stopping him. In the mean time, he's busy auditioning for other roles and relaxing playing video games and watching the cartoon channel.- Actress

Robinhood Ferdinand Padilla, known professionally as Robin Padilla, is a Filipino actor, screenwriter, producer and director best known for his '90s action films; portraying mostly antihero characters that granted him the moniker "Bad Boy" of Philippine cinemas. He is also dubbed as "The Action Prince" or "The Prince of the Philippine Action Movies."
Padilla was born in Daet, Camarines Norte, Philippines to Casimero Roy Padilla Sr., a filmmaker, and Lolita Eva Cariño. He is also the brother of Bb Gandanghari and Rommel Padilla; uncle of Bela Padilla, Daniel Padilla and Mark Anthony Fernandez; and father of Queenie Padilla and Kylie Padilla. He is the husband of Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla.
Padilla has already been active on the silver screen during the '80s, mostly being on films produced by RCP Productions. It was during the '90s though when he started to be prominent on show business through his films with Sharon Cuneta (Maging sino ka man (1991)) and Vina Morales (Ang utol kong hoodlum (1991)).
During the 2000s, Padilla ventured on to the small screen and acted on TV series in ABS-CBN, then on GMA, until returning back to ABS-CBN during the 2010s. This was also the time when he is also acting on comedy films, while still embracing his bad boy image.
Being a household name, most would have thought that Padilla would only act on action films. But, he has proven that he is a versatile actor as he also acted in comedy, thriller, horror and drama films/TV series. He has won two best actors plum during the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival and 2014 GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards for his lead role in 10000 Hours (2013) (Joyce Bernal, 2013), a film about a Philippine senator forced to go on the run.
Also, he has a recurring stint as a judge in Pilipinas Got Talent (2010), a Philippine adaption to the Britain's Got Talent (2007) series wherein judges, like him, are searching for the most unique and talented act in the Philippines.- Daphne Joy was born in Olongapo, Philippines. Marie Rachel Salman was born to Jose Fazil Taleon and Cleo Salman (whose father hailed from Bethlehem), in Mar 4 1969. She studied at the Karilagan in Magallanes and Assumption College for her elementary education, and Colegio de Santa Rosa for high school. She first appeared on television as a model for a toothpaste commercial, immediately catching the attention of the public. She then guested on various television shows as a singer and dancer. Vic del Rosario and Mina Aragon of Viva Films encouraged Rachel, she of the alabaster skin and angelic face, to join the film industry. When she was just starting out in films, Rachel, using the screen name "Dawn Zulueta," immediately entranced the movie public with her performance in _Pangarap na Ginto (1990_ qv, Robin Good (1991), _Akin and pangarap mo (1991)_ qv, and _Hanggang may buhay (1992)_ qv. Dawn could combine delicate, doe-eyed innocence with strong-willed romantic personas, as seen in performances like _Apoy sa puso (1992)_ qv and the remake of the terrific ghost story, _Patayin sa sindak si Barbara (1995)_ qv, but she could also carry a movie, top-billed, when given the chance, as in the sensational, biographical rape-story, _Maggie de la Riva Story (1994)_ qv. Ms de la Riva personally chose Dawn to portray her in this searing indictment of criminal perversion. (Ms de la Riva, a beautiful actress of the 1960s, was raped in 1967, her case became controversial and dragged on in court for 5 years. The four principally accused were meted the death sentence in 1972). Dawn was nominated at the "Gawad Urian Awards" qv for her supporting role in _Kasalanan bang sambahin ka? (1990)_ qv. She won best supporting actress honors from the "Film Academy of the Philippines" qv and the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts & Sciences ("FAMAS" qv), for _Una kang naging akin (1991)_ qv; and the Best Actress honor from the "FAMAS" qv, for _Hihintayin kita sa langit (1991)_ qv, which also earned her an URIAN nomination. She was also nominated as Best Actress for _Apoy sa puso (1992)_ qv, at the URIAN awards. In 1993 Dawn represented the Philippines' movie entry, _Hihintayin kita sa langit_ qv, at the 4th ASEAN Film Festival in Bangkok, Thailand. Dawn took a respite from films after her 1997 movie _To Saudi with Love_, and made a comeback in the family ensemble-drama _Filipinas (2003)_ qv. In between, she got married to Davao businessman Anton Lagdameo in December 27, 1997. They have a child. On television, Dawn plays the Queen of Fairyland, "Inang Reyna/Mine-a," in the 2005 soap _Encantadia_ qv.- Actress
