Dobie's parents are mixed on Dobie dropping out to get a job. They all let confirmed academic and lover of anything related to knowledge Mr. Pomfritt decide Dobie's fate. But Mr. Pomfritt, who has always had problems making ends meet, may be easier prey to Thalia's arguments than most would have believed.

After examining Maynard's election prediction, Dobie glares at him and states, "You picked the WRONG one!" I believe this episode was aired only the one time and was not part of the syndication package.

This stance places a rift between Dobie and Herbert, which brings up whether standing up for one's beliefs, being informed and correct about an issue, or family is most important.

Dobie sees being a farmer as his only future hope, regardless of if Zelda is in that future. As usual, Maynard follows Dobie into biology class. Their first project is to examine the effects of hormones on chicken. One will be injected with female hormones, one will be injected with male hormones and the control chicken will get no injection. Three problems arise with their new arrangement. First, Mr. Gillis, who doesn't know that Dobie has chickens, keeps on hearing rooster crows, which he is made to believe is all in his imagination. Second, Dobie wants out of his arrangement with Zelda if only because he has met the pretty Imogene Burkhart, who he sees as a possible girlfriend/future wife. And third, Maynard is forced to give the chickens their injections. He believes that a 2 cc injection means a 2 cup injection.

However, when she learns that Dobie's father is using a scam to get out from paying a $10 parking ticket, she figures that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. To get Eloise's fleeting affections back, Dobie has to prove to her that his father is going to pay the parking ticket, that proof being the payment receipt. But getting Dobie's father to pay the fine and getting the parking violations clerk to accept the money aren't as easy as Dobie believes. And if Eloise won't have him, Dobie convincing Mona that he has larceny in his heart is also easier said than done.

The agents want Maynard to continue to impersonate Dr. Fahrenheit to Veronica so that they can nab her entire spy ring. The mission is dangerous enough for Maynard, but throw into the mix Dobie's parents, who have no idea what's going on, and the mission becomes more complicated.

As Maynard truly did see marrying Zelda as the best thing for himself, Dobie could not break his heart by telling him Zelda's true purpose. And although most in town, including the parents, didn't approve of the wedding, no one saw it as their place to stop it. So when the J.P. asks if anyone knows of just cause why Maynard and Zelda should not be married, will anyone - most specifically Dobie or Zelda - pipe up?
