Sex & Nudity

  • The main character goes into a "cat house" or brothel to make a phone call, though it is only inferred and never explained or referred to as such in the story. He looks suggestively and makes flirtatious comments at the women who were scantily clad for the time but are fully covered. Children today would likely think the women are simply in their pajamas; they are all wearing long silk nightgowns plus flimsy wraps over them.
  • The doctor's daughter is wearing only her silk nightgown during the crime reenactment when she is assaulted by the monster.
  • Comment about a woman of the streets.

Violence & Gore

  • Some dead bodies are seen. A human heart is seen. A man is strangled from behind. A man is set on fire and falls out a window.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some drinking and smoking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The appearance of the killer could be frightening to viewers.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A character picks up globs of synthetic skin, and smears them all over his hands and face. It's more gross than gory, but the character does talk throughout about it being "real" skin.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A character is drugged.
  • A few comedy-relief scenes talking about and showing an exploding cigar.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Discussions about cannibalism, though never shown. One scene in particular discusses cannibalism in a racially insensitive way, speaking of African natives.
