I’ve heard it said that somewhere between science and superstition, there is another world. A world of darkness.
It’s a world that haunted my dreams as a child, from the first time I saw Kevin Sullivan and his Army of Darkness spreading their eerily twisted messages across the Nwa.
“Our cause is not for evil,” said Sullivan during an interview for Championship Wrestling from Florida in 1982. “Because all we’re looking for is refuge from this cold, cruel world.”
Ring a bell?
Sullivan’s dark mystique, his messianic charisma, his penchant for dark riddles — they all seem to have been resurrected in the form of Bray Wyatt.
Take, for instance, these words recently delivered by the leader of the Wyatt Family to nemesis John Cena:
“This is a terrible world,” Wyatt drawled. “A cold, cold dark and lonely place. You stand for these illusions. But...

You don’t want to find yourself on the naughty list when any of these Santas come to town…
Earlier this year we heard that Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink had signed on to direct the follow-up to Terry Zwigoff’s 2003 black comedy hit, Bad Santa. As the festive season approaches, here's our look at the movies’ top ten villainous Father Christmases.
10. Santa Claus – Santa’s Slay (2005)
In this dark comedy horror, Santa Claus (played by former wrestling star Bill Goldberg) is actually a demon who, after years of killing on Christmas Day, is defeated by an angel in the year 1005 Ad and sentenced to deliver Christmas presents and good cheer instead for a thousand years. In 2005, having done his time, the evil Santa arrives on his sleigh pulled by his “hell-deer” to resume the killing once again.

Sure, there are plenty of places that offer Goth gear, leather pants, customized vampire teeth, and corsets for horror fans; but what about everyone else? What if that’s not exactly your style? Inspired by horror films, comics, bootleg toys, Metal, Hardcore, and Punk-- Mishka is a brand that has scrapped most people’s preconceived notions of what defines street wear.
Greg Rivera and Mikhail Bortnik are the dynamic duo that birthed the beast that is Mishka. Over the last few years their company has flourished and steadily increased its clientele. Their unique aesthetic as a clothing company has motivated them to push the boundaries and create some of the most eccentric designs out there. “Greg and I are really weird and just naturally are into doing stuff that’s a ways from the norm. I mean no other street wear brand would ever in a million years would say...

IFC Films gave Fango an update on when a quartet of its horror titles will debut as Blockbuster exclusives and then become available for retail via Mpi. Look for The Objective (at Blockbuster July 14) to retail on October 27; Pontypool (Blockbuster Oct. 13) to retail February 10, 2010; Dead Snow (Blockbuster Oct. 20) to retail January 26, 2010; and Dark Mirror (no Blockbuster date as of yet) to retail March 2010.
Meanwhile, the two Blu-ray set of the complete theatrical cut of the Weinstein Company’s Grindhouse (which we previously reported on here) has now been shifted to a street date of December 31 by Wal-Mart, which appears to be the only retailer offering it at the moment. That’s the slot the company has also set for a three-dvd Grindhouse edition—but since that’s a Thursday, and discs usually street on Tuesdays, could that just be a default date? (A few years back, the Weinsteins announced a...

One of the perceptions about Academic Conferences is that they are dry dusty affairs with about as much excitement as ball of coughed up cat hair. However within the last decade, the perception is frankly untrue. More and more professors and academics are looking toward popular culture to study and talk about and horror is no exception. In fact, horror may be one of the biggest areas of study within the academy these days. Films, game, and sequential art studies are “popping” all over campuses. (I know guy here at Texas Tech University who is doing his dissertation on narrative structure within the Friday The 13th movie series. So for all you Fangoria readers, there do seem to be niches within the academy that is growing and growing.

Welcome to Mixing it Up where breakout creators create things, break things, and hang out. Every week, David Gallaher experiences the world beyond comics to discuss the influences, hobbies, and thoughts of your favorite artists and writers. This week, David heads to Baltimore for a quick visit to the grave of Edgar Allan Poe and for drinks at the Inner Harbor with Sullengrey creator and Cthulhu Tales artist, Drew Rausch.
Baltimore gets deceptively chilly during October. Of course, not all the chills come from the strong breeze blowing over Chesapeake Bay … no, this is a chill that tingles your spine … and it's a chill made real when you visit the grave of Edgar Allan Poe with Drew Rausch.
Drew is used to the chill though. He spends his days drawing all the things that go bump in the night. And, on a day like today, he's already talking about ways...
