A review of te events during the reign of George V

This film charts the events that occurred during the reign of GeorgeV ending with his silver jubilee.It tells its history through the progress of a penny supposedly minted at the beginning of his rein,actually it is clearly shown to be minted in 1933.Many actors and music hall artists of the time have a small part.Most are wasted in their screen time.There is not a critical comment throughout.The First World War is apparently won by an order by Butcher Haig.He who threw away 60000 casualties on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.No mention of the intervention of the Americans.In 1929 it would appear that everyone was concerned about the illness of George.We end with the national anthem and a full screen picture of George V.In fact he is on screen for no more than a few minutes of the 102 minutes running time.Often the film just uses a picture of lights on in Buckingham palace as a substitute for him.It is an interesting if very slanted view of the era.Ironically it wouldn't have had much time in the cinemas bearing in mind that George V succumbed to the effects of smoking a few months after the film was released.
