a bit overly melodramatic at times, but it's still a good film and far better than its current score would suggest.

Currently, "The Strange Case of Dr. Meade" has a paltry score of only 4.2 on UMDB. This would seem to indicate that the movie is a dog, when in fact it's a pretty good movie. Now, I will admit it isn't perfect...but it is well worth seeing.

Dr. Meade (Jack Holt) is a famous surgeon who has finally taken a much needed vacation. But soon he would have to forget this, as his rest turns out to be anything but restful. This is because the place he's chosen to vacation is in the middle of no where and the locals are incredibly ignorant when it comes to modern medicine. They rely on a man they call 'Doc', but he has no training and is more a quack than anything else. But, sadly, he IS popular with the locals and he vows to make things tough for Dr. Meade when he challenges their old ways.

While the locals in this film are perhaps too ignorant and stereotypical, the story is exciting and worth seeing. Much of it is because Holt is a great but mostly forgotten actor who does a very good job here. Much of it is because the story is never dull in the least! Well worth seeing despite it score.
