- George Hollister, crack investigator for the NYC police, is assigned to run down the enemy aliens who dynamited a Detroit munitions plant. The trail takes him to a customs inspector who is known to have honored fake passports provided by Leon Fenten, chief henchman of Drexel Stuyvesant who heads the sabotage ring. Aided by his partner Ray Nolan. Hollister arrests an agent named Reed and takes his place using the fake passport. As Reed, he is met by Karol Roy, an innocent assistant, who takes him to Fenten. Working undercover, Hollister is still unable to learn the name of the head man, not even from dumb gang-member Hank Kircher. Stuyvesant warns Fenten of his suspicions about "Reed" and the latter gives Hollister an assignment as a test.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
- Passport to Alcatraz opens with an idyllic scene of swans swimming in a lake in front of an imposing European building which is probably supposed to be a government building, but looks like a hotel. The scene shifts to a large boardroom presided by his Excellency. His Excellency sends Paul Reed to the U.S. to engage in acts of terrorism blowing up factories producing nitropine, a powerful explosive which could be used against his country. He tells Reed to contact immigration inspector Wonden to get his visa.
The next scene has two police officers talking when a third comes in warning of a bomb he found. They run off to warn the employees and call the police. There are scenes of large explosions with the employees fleeing. An announce on radio tells the public that the authorities will be rounding up suspicious immigrants. There are scenes of the summary roundups.
District Attorney Thomas L. Lindsey interrogates two suspects and confronts them with the fact that they have forged passports. The suspects are sent to the grand jury. George Hollister enters and is taken off his current assignment, but put onto investigating the forged passport scheme. He is to take the place of a corrupt immigration inspector names Wondon (AW). Lindsey assigns Ray Nolan as Hollister's assistant.
At immigration Hollister is posing as Wonden, and Hollister is posing as a photographer. Reed contacts Wonden and is passed through immigration, but Hollister follows him along with Nolan and another plain clothes man. Hollister confronts Reed in his stateroom and gets some information from him. Reed is arrested, and Hollister takes his place. Karol Roy appears at immigration and sees the fake Reed by his briefcase. She brings him to Fenten, but Nolan tails them to Fenten's "Photographers" studio.
Fenton asks for Reed's passport, but is told that Wonden kept it, so he just takes "Reed's" information. He introduces Reed to Kircher who takes Reed to the hideout with Nolan tailing them.
The scene shifts to the DA Lindsey's office where Drexel Stuyvesunt visits him and they discuss the plant explosion. Stuyvesunt proposes to add more guards to the other plant. Then the next scene is in the hideout. After Kircher and "Reed" shoot the bull Fenten gives "Reed" an assignment to get the reluctant Bender to cooperate. Hollister confronts Reed and strong-arms him into meeting Fender again. Reed realizes too late he is in custody. Hollister and the DA concoct a scheme to wait until Fenten's boss can be located so they plant a fake a notice of Reed's accidental death.
Fenten congratulates "Reed" on the "murder" and asks him to come up with a plan to bomb the other nitropine plant. "Reed" will take a job as Harry Brown to case the plant. The watchman, Fred, gives Hollister as Brown a tour of the plant. "Reed" then reports back to Fenten that a time bomb is out because of the security. "Reed" concocts a plan to run electrical cables to heat up the cylinders of gas when the night watchman clocks in.
Nolan goes to Fenton's photography studio and asks the sales lady, Roy, for a sitting appointment. She shows him some humorous sample books and they flirt. James Carver enters under the name James Hall and visits Fenten. Fenten takes his passport and keeps it, but Carver objects loudly, which Nolan overhears. Fenten pacifies him with cash. At the DA's office Hollister is questioning James Carver who protests that he was "duped" out of his passport by Fenten, but he ends up being sent to the grand jury. They let Fenten keep the passport as it is necessary to keep Fenten in the dark, but it will be cancelled. There is another short meeting between Fenten and His Excellency about Jeffers entering the U.S.
Hollister as Brown is doing his first solo rounds when Mike Riley, the watchman and the personnel manager, Mr. Johnson, accost him as being suspicious. They call the DA and are assured that Hollister is a policeman. Hollister tells Riley that he has to skip his next rounds and Riley agrees to take them.
Ray Nolan is visiting Karol Roy, but she informs him she can't see him any more, and they quarrel. He meets Hollister outside her apartment and tells him that he can't find out anything from Roybecause Fenten has a hold on her.. Hollister said he will try and goes to her apartment. She, thinking he is Reed is surprised when he informs her he is police, and Nolan verifies this. He talks her into spying on Fenten. He also has an idea to smoke out the boss..
"Reed" visits Fenten at his studio and tells him that they have been double crossed because someone pulled out all the wires, and hinted it was the boss. Fenten agrees to take "Reed" to the boss, but but then he gets a call from Stuyvesunt telling him "Reed" is a policeman, so Fenten decides to spend the night in the hideout to watch Hollister. In the morning Hollister overhears Fenten telling Kircher to watch Hollister.
Hollister has a meeting outside town with Stuyvesunt. They decide to string Hollister along and have Jeffers see if Reed is genuine. Jeffers peeks from a backroom at Hollister and after he has left confirms that he is not Reed. Jeffers concocts a new plan to use power from a remote shed to heat the cylinders and make an explosion. Jeffers calls Stuyvesunt to tell him the explosion that night, and that the policeman impersonating Reed is a problem. Stuyvesunt says he will take care of it. Stuyvesunt visits the DA and complains about a watchman named Brown who is acting suspicious. So the police bring in Reed and Archer at their apartment. The DA first "interrogates Reed". When Hollister hears that Stuyvesunt accused "Reed" of playing with wires, he realizes that Stuyvesunt is the boss.
Roy sees Fenten packing up, and he tells her he is leaving. He also tells her about the explosion at 9 PM that night, so she better also leave. Meanwhile Jeffers and his crew is in the cylinder storage room preparing for the explosion. They hide when they see the shadow of Mike, the watchman. They knock him out, and Jeffers goes to the remote shed through the window.
At the DA's office Hollister and Lindsey get a call from Nolan telling them the information that Roy had relayed. This is followed by police cars converging on the plant. At the same time Fenten visits Stuyvesunt at his hotel to hideout. Jeffers drags a bag into the shed, while his men are working on the wires. The police break into the storage room and after the lights are turned off there is a drag down fight. The police prevail, and Hollister seeing the open window goes through it to the shed. He strong arms Jeffers and arrests him. The groggy Watchman is helped to his feet.
The DA and plain clothes men arrest Stuyvesunt and Jeffers at his hotel. After this is the obligatory group wrap-up. With Bender, Hollister, the DA, Roy, and Nolan. Bender is happily not indicted because he cooperated. Roy is also not indicted but was told that she would still be deported. Hollister mentions that the law would let her stay if married to an American citizen. Nolan promptly proposes, and she joyously accepts.
