Netflix has struck a landmark deal with Dreamworks Animation that will see it stream more than 300 hours of exclusive original programming from the Shrek and Kung Fu Panda producer.
The deal will see Dreamworks produce a string of spin-offs from current and forthcoming films for the international VoD service and could see new series featuring characters from Shrek, Monsters vs Aliens, How To Train Your Dragon and Postman Pat.
The move will be a blow to rival international kids broadcasters including Nickelodeon, which has produced kids series based on Dreamworks series including Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, but will now be locked out of ordering future series as a result of the exclusive agreement.
The Netflix deal will also include potential series from characters including Casper The Friendly Ghost, Where’s Waldo and Postman Pat, taken from the Classic Media library which was acquired by Dreamworks last year.

Dreamworks Animation bought Classic Media today for $155 million, a firm that has been collecting the rights to a potpourri of family friendly classic characters since 2000, according to EW.
Classic Media owns the rights of a myriad of characters that send you right down memory lane, from Gumby, Lassie, Dick Tracy, Where’S Waldo and Richie Rich to more FM friendly titles like Casper The Friendly Ghost, He-man and She-ra. They also own the rights to Lone Ranger, which is already being turned into a feature film with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer for Disney, putting Dreamworks in their crosshairs. Relativity Media is developing a film on Voltron, another property Classic Media owns, and Dreamworks is already putting together an animated feature based on Mr. Peabody And Sherman with Modern Family’s Ty Burrell lending his voice to the project.

Super 8 finally arrives in UK cinemas this week, shepherded by Steven Spielberg. Here are nine more movies he produced, that seem to have unfairly fallen off the radar…
Steven Spielberg has a well-known and extensive set of credits as a director. And as producer and executive producer, he's also put his name to movies such as The Goonies, Transformers, Men In Black and Gremlins.
But what of the Spielberg-produced films that fly a little futher under the radar? We're going to salute a collection of them right now...
Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)
We've spent a lot of time on this site championing Back To The Future, The Goonies and Gremlins, and it's a policy we fully intend to keep adhering to. However, there was a movie made around the same time, that Spielberg also produced, which deserves praise. And that'd be Barry Levinson's Young Sherlock Holmes.
It's a surprise...

Waking up as a ghost, with no recollection of how you came to be one can really put a wrinkle in your plans for the evening, but such is the case of the main character in "Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective." Being dead may have its downsides, but Sissel comes with a handful of ghostly powers that he can use to figure out what happened to him as he plays the role of detective and lifesaver in Capcom's latest DS release, courtesy of the mind behind the "Ace Attorney" series, Shu Takumi.
The Basics
Armed only with his unexplained ghost powers, Sissel must navigate two worlds, the ghost world and the real world, to find out as much information as he can about himself, and his murder. Along the way, Sissel will find and help other fallen souls by using his ghost tricks to help them avert their premature deaths. Using...

As a little kid I loved the cartoon exploits of Casper, The Friendly Ghost. It provided many youngsters with some good-natured shivers to go along with the usual kid-friendly fare. The live action film decades later? Not so much! That's okay, though! If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!
According to IndieWire Amblin and Universal apparently both have their eyes set on a new Casper, The Friendly Ghost feature film, the rights of which are now owned by Classic Media, who hope to reboot the franchise.
However, don’t expect any hackneyed direct-to-video features. Instead, the studios have their minds made up that the relaunch will set its sail for the silver screen, and as with every feature it seems nowadays, talk of 3D has already been knocked around. While any story has yet to hit the page, reports believe that the film may follow in the footsteps...

DailyBLAM Interview: Brendan Deneen on the Resurgence of Atlas Comics and Possible Movie Adaptations
At the 2010 New York Comic-Con, The Action Room for The DailyBLAM talked with Brendan Deneen, President and co-publisher of the recently re-launched Atlas Comics. He took some time to talk about Atlas' upcoming books and the possibility of movie adaptations. Deneen also created the comic imprint Ardden Entertainment with Rich Emms, and wrote a successful Flash Gordon comic book miniseries last year. His Casper comic series (the first use of Casper The Friendly Ghost in many years) has also received critical acclaim. Brendan was able to share with us that Steve Niles, writer & creator of the comic book series 30 Days of Night (which also inspired the recent 30 Days of Night movie starring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George), will be writing the Wulf The Barbarian series for Atlas...
