Film debut of Barbara Bel Geddes. She was signed to a seven-year contract with RKO after this film. Director Anatole Litvak cast her after seeing her on Broadway as the female lead in "Deep Are the Roots", which played at the Fulton Theatre for 477 performances beginning 26 September 1945.
After RKO bought the rights to the French film Le Jour Se Leve (1939), on which this picture is based, they also sought to purchase all of the prints of that film to destroy them. However, copies began to appear in the 1950's, so that film did not become lost.
Jo Ann holds up a program pamphlet during the concert in Cleveland and the ad on the back cover is shown. It's an ad for "Pike's Pale: The Ale that Won for Yale!" This is a reference to Henry Fonda's character's family business in The Lady Eve (1941)
First feature film for director Anatole Litvak in five years after serving in the U.S. Army during WWII where he worked mainly with Frank Capra turning out documentaries for the War Department.
This film failed at the box office, resulting in a loss to RKO of $1,000,000 (about $13.8M in 2023) according to studio records.
