The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, 23 April 2000
7/10

The songs are mostly forgettable, the dances unremarkable, the storyline insipid and implausible; yet the movie is still a fun viewing experience. Certainly that is mainly due to the two stars. Hutton can be an acquired taste, but if you have acquired it, this is the type of movie she excelled in. Astaire is his usual polished self. The color production is splendid to look at, and the supporting players are okay. All in all, not that great, but not that bad, either.
