Third of nine films in which Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride starred as Ma and Pa Kettle, released by Universal from 1949 to 1957. They initially appeared as supporting characters in The Egg and I (1947).
The film takes place in July 1950.
This marked the final appearance of Richard Long as the eldest, and college educated, son Tom. In later films the character would be referred to in dialog but not seen.
Even though J.P. Sloane received no on screen credit for his role as "Billy Kettle" in this film, he is probably the one most remembered portraying that part in the series. Notwithstanding the "Official Kettle Family Portrait" Director Ed Sedgwick insisted that the young Sloane be the only child used exclusively for publicity pictures promoting this film.
The concept of the Kettles becoming rich after uranium is discovered on their property anticipates the premise of The Beverly Hillbillies (1962) over a decade later.
