The float-plane Vince flies in the search is a 1935 Noorduyn Norseman, registration CF-AYO (the CF-HGO registration seen in this film is fictitious). This was the first Norseman made, out of over 900 produced from 1935 to 1959. It can also be seen in Captains of the Clouds (1942). Shortly after this film was made, it was involved in a fatal crash. The wreckage is on display at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
The novel upon which this film is based was serialized in The Saturday Evening Post from January 5 to February 9, 1952.
This film failed at the box office, resulting in a loss to MGM of $88,000 ($850,000 in 2019) according to studio records.
