Sex & Nudity

  • Several scenes where Ned has his shirt off. Also at one point, Conseil barges into his room and it appears that he was changing but all you can see is him shirtless
  • Close to the beginning of the movie, Ned comes on the screen with two women who are wearing cleavage-revealing dresses. Later, he remarks that there are native girls hungry for affection when Nemo's submarine reaches New Guinea.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a scene on the island where slaves are seen from far being whipped.
  • There is a scene where the island natives are on the submarine and they are being electrified and this act deemed to be amusing for Ned and Nemo,
  • There is one scene where a man is almost attacked by a shark. The shark is shot and its blood is seen in the water. Two men are chased by cannibals after one of them sees several skulls. This scene may be frightening. The submarine is attacked by a giant squid. This entire sequence is intense. Two characters view a prison/slave camp from a distance, and the beating and whipping of the workers can be seen briefly. In the final scene, before Captain Nemo dies two men fight very brutally with each other and one man is presumed knocked out. Captain Nemo is shot in the back and blood is shown through his jacket.

  • Ned drinks a whole bottle of alcohol in order to send a message in the bottle. He is later seen slightly drunk

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • there is a scene where sea turtles are held from free swimming by the divers along with the captures of many lobsters. some children find this too intense.
  • The giant squid attack may be frightening to younger audiences, as well as the cannibals and the shark. Captain Nemo is shot and suffers several minutes before dying, eyes open to camera.
