Trivialidades:

Charlton Heston improvised during the argument scene between Eleanor Parker and himself. It was not scripted that he splash perfume all over her. This move intensified the action and a surprised Parker was able to react accordingly.

Goofs:

Boom mic visible: During the first meeting/"confrontation" between Joanna and Christopher there comes a point in the conversation when he asks her if she is 'laughing at him.' As she turns from the dresser to face him at the very upper left corner for approx. 35 frames the moving shadow of what may well be a boom mic can easily be seen as it follows the motion.

Tense, well-acted jungle adventure

This fine drama is as much about domestic strife between newlyweds as it is about savage soldier ants that threaten a South American plantation. These killer ants cover an area ten miles long and two miles wide and sweep everything before them. Leiningen, the plantation owner, refuses to abandon his acres of coffee and chocolate and makes preparations to fend off his intelligent, relentless foe. Leiningen and his mail-order bride Joanna quarrel immediately after meeting each other and spend most of the film engaged in verbal clashes and hurl accusations at each other. Leiningen's resentment towards his wife softens when he sees how talented and musically accomplished she is. Confident, poised and self-assured, she seems to be everything the planter is not, and he struggles with that unflattering truth as he tries to come to terms with his lovely bride. Charlton Heston and Eleanor Parker are well-matched in this film. Heston's Leiningen is masculine and virile as the plantation owner but appears to be insecure and inadequate now that Joanna has come into his life. Parker's Joanna is attractive, polished and worldly, a gifted conversationalist who makes her plantation-owner husband seem out of his depth in her company.
