William Shatner is known for a lot of things, including but not limited to embodying the role of Captain Kirk with an impressively hammy sense of machismo in "Star Trek: The Original Series," playing a man haunted by a figure on the wing of a plane in one of the most famous episodes of "The Twilight Zone," and penning a /Film column one time.
The mythos surrounding Shatner and his legendarily big personality still grows, as the actor has remained a popular presence on TV and in film even into his 90s. Plenty of delightful Shatner apocrypha floats around the internet, along with some chaotic set stories and confirmed instances of him being a tool. One anecdote from his "Star Trek" co-star Win De Lugo, which appeared in the book "These Are The Voyages: Season One," falls somewhere in the middle of the delight-to-tool spectrum. In it, De Lugo recalls...

The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds exudes even more of the breezy freshness of a sharply written, back-to-basics TV series than its first season. Increasingly, showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are solving the puzzle of how to make the hoary old Star Trek format new again. A welcome shift away from rigidly serialized storytelling has greatly benefited this prequel series, allowing it to cast off the chains of cause and effect that bind together each episode of Discovery and Picard.
As in the halcyon Star Trek days, each episode of Strange New Worlds explores a new, pulpy sci-fi scenario played for thrills, yuks, or, yes, sometimes heavy-handed progressive grandstanding. The writing this season nails the middle ground between the silly-but-sometimes-smart space operatics of the original series and the warm surrogate-family vibe of The Next Generation. Plots that alternate their focal points channel that Next Gen...

Hello to Jason Isaacs in the latest Star Trek: Discovery episode, which is proving much more character-centric than previous series...

So, following the traumatic backstory two-parter that opened this season, we finally got to meet the Discovery in this episode. And unlike the various Enterprises (or Voyager), which are warm, homely places, the Discovery is more like one of those weird, creepy ships that the Enterprise (or Voyager) encounters and has to solve the mystery of what killed everyone before it kills them too. Indeed, that's sort of what happened to Discovery's sister ship, the USS Glenn.

With a new Star Trek TV series incoming, we revisit the show's long history of censorship at the BBC...
Star Trek is not a franchise you’d normally associate with controversy. Nevertheless, between 1969 and 1994, four episodes of the original series - Empath, Whom Gods Destroy, Plato’s Stepchildren and Miri - were not aired on the BBC, and other episodes were heavily redacted.

It’s difficult nowadays to appreciate just how sacrosanct terrestrial television was until the 1990s. Even though Star Trek was first broadcast in the UK on BBC One on July 12 1969, with the episode Where No Man Has Gone Before, repeats were rare and VHS tapes were expensive, and difficult to get...

As a new Star Trek TV show is planned for 2017, we select the show's top 25 episodes from its classic Original and Animated series...
The impact of Star Trek, a television series that altered the world's expectations and put an indelible mark on many cultures around the world, is often underestimated until you realise who it had an impact on and what they went on to achieve.
If you only ever watch 25 episodes or, rather, stories from the original(ish) run of Star Trek, these are they, at least in my opinion. The only rules in place being that this selection is drawn only from the series that just called themselves Star Trek (so that's what we now call Star Trek: The Original Series, or Tos and Star Trek: The Animated Series, or Tas), and two-part episodes count as one story... The more Trek-astute of you may realise...

Television legend James Garner has died at the age of 86. He reportedly passed away late last night.
Garner began his career with a non-speaking role in The Caine Mutiny Court Martial on Broadway after helping actor Lloyd Nolan learn his lines. He then landed a regular role in the touring production.
From there, he moved on to small roles in movies and television. While he found success starring in more than 50 films over the course of his career -- including The Thrill of It All, The Americanization of Emily, Victor/Victoria, Murphy's Romance, Support Your Local Sheriff!, and The Notebook -- Garner really made his mark on the small screen.
He starred in a comedic Western, Maverick, in 1957 on ABC. Garner's Bret Maverick character sought out high-stakes poker games and rarely stayed in one place for very long. Unlike...

Los Angeles – He was the guy that could take care of things for you, with a wink of the eye and a slightly cynical air. Handsome star James Garner distinguished himself in both film and television, and passed away on July 19th, 2014, in Los Angeles after a long stretch of health problems. He was 86.
Garner broke in on a national level by starring as professional gambler Bret Maverick in the 1950s TV series, “Maverick,” and went from there to take on leading man and character roles in classic films such as “The Children’s Hour,” “The Great Escape,” “The Americanization of Emily,” “Victor Victoria,” and “Murphy’s Romance.” He even completed a TV-to-movie cycle by appearing in the Mel Gibson film version of “Maverick.” He also made a second character splash on TV in the 1970s, portraying private investigator Jim Rockford in the sly and popular show, “The Rockford Files.

Oscar-nominated actor James Garner has passed away at the age of 86.
From AP:
Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western “Maverick” led to a stellar career in TV and films such as “The Rockford Files” and his Oscar-nominated “Murphy’s Romance,” was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday.
Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. Pdt and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press.

In an industry where looks play a vital role for anyone to be successful, we have had actors with average looks reaching the pinnacle of success. And contrary to the idiom is Celina Jaitly, who despite being gorgeous, possessing one of the best bodies and gifted acting skills haven.t yet tasted the best times. A peek into her career graph shows us the extreme highs and lows that her films have managed to achieve as far as box-office results are concerned. If this was not enough, she has also been a soft target for a few. Her vehement stance on supporting gay rights has got her acknowledgment and criticism both. However, what makes Celina stand out is her bold outlook towards life. Catch the actress at her undiplomatic best as the tape rolls to capture her unguarded in this month.s Court Martial.

Sajid Nadiadwala is one filmmaker who has seen more successes than misses. However, he is someone who has also seen his own share of fair criticism coming his way. Last year, it was Kambakkht Ishq that was almost ravaged in reviews. The ghosts of clash of his Jaan-e-Mann with Don have still not gone away, as a result of which he has totally avoided the clash of his new film, Housefull with Kites. Meanwhile, he is balancing his affection for Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan well by making movies with them alternatively. However, in the process he has also roped in emerging superstar Ranbir Kapoor to pave the way for the future. In this month.s Court Martial, Sajid reveals how he balances the best of all worlds without letting the controversies affect him...

While watching this episode of Stargate Universe, I kept thinking of the "Court Martial" episode of the original Star Trek series. Captain Kirk is tried for the wrongful death of a crewmate, but Spock discovers via a 3D chess game that the computer's system has been tampered with and presents the evidence at the trial. Yes, I'm that geeky.
Ok, so that's about all these episodes have in common, and there's only so much you can do with the "trial in space" story. It boils down to the characters, and in this instance, the battle lines were drawn even further in this compelling little murder mystery.
