Several of the greatest films of all time were made at MGM British Studios and some of Hollywood's most prolific names laid foot upon the stages there. In an eminently readable trip down memory lane, “MGM British Studios: Hollywood in Borehamwood” is a bounteous treasure trove primarily comprising interesting and amusing memories of some of those who had the privilege to work there. Sub-titled "Celebrating 100 Years of the Film Studios of Elstree/Borehamwood", the tome boasts a voluminous collection of stories from those who worked in front of and behind the camera back in those halcyon days – some names are familiar, others not so much, but all of them have tales to tell; if nothing else, author Derek Pykett deserves an award for his prowess in undertaking...

I’ve always been a fan of musicals and have seen a fair few on Broadway – from the musical that was an actual yearly field trip for eight graders in my New Jersey school, Cats, to that great production of Les Miserables with the rotating stage. I’ve also been a fan of the TV show Chuck from its debut all the way through the final season. So when Zachary Levi mentioned during the Nerd HQ panel I attended at Sdcc that he was going to be starring in a musical on Broadway, First Date, I knew I had to see it.
Fortunately, the New York Comic Con was already on my calendar, so before the con I went to see First Date – and boy, am I glad I did! I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard throughout a live show in… well, maybe ever. And yet there...

Olivia de Havilland and Errol Flynn, The Charge of the Light Brigade Errol Flynn movies: Errol Flynn would have turned 103 on June 20. In celebration of his birthday, this Wednesday Flynn is Turner Classic Movies’ star of the early morning / afternoon. Inevitably, movies include a couple of Olivia de Havilland and Errol Flynn pairings: The Charge of the Light Brigade and Santa Fe Trail. But there are quite a few more. [Errol Flynn movie line-up.] In fact, the interesting thing about TCM’s choice of Errol Flynn movies is that the vast majority are lesser-known titles such as Green Light, Rocky Mountain, The Warriors [...]...

On May 27, British film icon Christopher Lee turns 90 years old. In his long and storied career, he's delivered countless fantastic performances in everything from medieval adventures to gothic scary stories. (You may know him as Saruman, Count Dooku, the Man with the Golden Gun or even Count Dracula.) And he has no plans to slow down, as indicated by recent roles in the Oscar-winning"Hugo" and this month's "Dark Shadows" -- not to mention an upcoming return to Middle Earth with this December's "Hobbit." Lee is not just an actor, but a decorated military man and bombastic heavy metal singer, with a crazy family lineage to boot. To celebrate the legend's 90th birthday, we present 90 reasons why Christopher Lee is awesome. 1. He's the step-cousin of "James Bond" creator Ian Fleming, and was the author's first choice to play Dr. No in the film adaptation. 2. He's in the Guinness Book of...

The best films are the ones that make you wish you were in them; the best characters make you wish you knew them. In this list we’re going to count down the gangs that we all wanted to be in - regardless of criminal affiliations, murderous tendencies and hairy feet. You know the groups I mean: those bands of characters who had the strongest friendships, the most epic experiences, delivered the most outrageous one-liners and triumphed in the face of adversity. Cool is an unquantifiable state, but each of the following ten groups of people have it in spades. There was just too much cool to include here, but these are my personal favourites.
10. The Breakfast Club – The Breakfast Club (1985)
Which one were you? Judd Nelson, deliberately antagonising the teacher and everyone else? Ally Sheedy, sprinkling her pencilled countryside scene with dandruff snow? The characters from The Breakfast Club are timeless,...

Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone), Stuart Townsend (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), and Tadanobu Asano (Mongol) are set to play the Warriors Three in Marvel’s Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
The Warriors Three are a team of Asgardian gods that play a supporting role to Thor, the God of Thunder. According to Variety, Townsend will play Fandral the Dashing, a dashing swordsman Stan Lee based on Errol Flynn. Stevenson is set as Volstagg the Valiant, an obese warrior with superhuman strength based on the William Shakespeare character Falstaff. Asano is Hogun the Grim, a maceman with a resistance to physical injury based on the characters of actor Charles Bronson.
I’m not particularly familiar with Townsend, but Stevenson was excellent in “Rome” before he tried to make it with another awful Punisher pic and Asano was brilliant in the epic Mongol, something you should check out if you enjoyed Braveheart.

So the cast of Marvel’s Thor continues to get better and better as we finally know who the Warrior’s Three are going to be. Jude Law and Robert DeNiro had been rumored for roles and they may still be but we can take them off the Warrior’s Three speculation.
(Via Movieweb) Variety has reported, but then removed the article, saying that Marvel Studios and Thor director Kenneth Branaugh has set Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano to play the trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god, called The Warriors Three. Being that the article has been removed means possibly this information came out a little too early.

Variety reports that Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone), Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned), and Tadanobu Asano (Mongol) have been cast in Thor as The Warriors Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers and friends of Thor.
Stevenson will play the boisterous Volstagg the Valiant, a character based on William Shakespeare's Falstaff, while Townsend will play the swashbuckling Fandral the Dashing, originally based on actor Errol Flynn. Asano will play the pessimistic Hogun the Grim, who is often the voice of reason for the trio.
Thor starts production in mid-January, with direction by Kenneth Branagh. Chris Hemsworth stars as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and Anthony Hopkins plays Thor's father, Odin.
Next Showing: Thor opens May 20, 2011
