Henry Slate: Corny LaSalle

Quotes

  • Corny LaSalle : Steve's givin' you the right hop, Pop. I don't like funerals either. See you around the cemetery.

  • Steve Hollis : Do we leave in the morning?

Corny LaSalle : Ready at eight! Soon as I put on my traveling clothes and LuLu Bell here

    [referring to to his bass]

Corny LaSalle : puts on her G-string.

  • Steve Hollis : According to the map and it's been right the past three days, we should hit a little town called Strawberry Springs in time to stay over for the night. Its sort of a short cut.

Corny LaSalle : Oh. Sounds good enough to eat.

    Steve Hollis : What does?

Corny LaSalle : Strawberry short cut.

Steve Hollis : Oh, Corny, go back to sleep, will ya.

  • Corny LaSalle : It's probably a dance for squares.

    Steve Hollis : Square dance?

Corny LaSalle : That's what I said. They've probably been doin' that kinda stuff up here for the last 100 years.

  • Steve Hollis : Corny, how long has it been since you've seen a dancehall jump like that?

Corny LaSalle : About three years ago at Roseland - when that flea circus act got loose.

  • Corny LaSalle : What is that outfit playin' up there?

Steve Hollis : I don't know. It isn't boogie. It isn't jive and it isn't swing. It's kinda all of 'em.

  • Corny LaSalle : Hey, sister, what do you call that exercise your gettin'?

Girl Dancer #1 : This is rock-n-roll, brother! And we're rockin' tonight!

  • Corny LaSalle : Say, that was real keen.

    Bill Haley : Thank you.

Corny LaSalle : Would you mind telling me what you fellas were playing?

Bill Haley : Well, it's easy alligator, all you do is play the music upside down.

Corny LaSalle : I suppose for waltzes you play it sideways?

Bill Haley : Waltzes - watch your language, man. There are ladies present.

  • Lisa Johns : I hadn't thought dancing to rock-n-roll was talent.

Corny LaSalle : Take my word for it, honey, any gal that can make a guy's eyes pop out the way you can, has plenty of talent.

  • Steve Hollis : Business is business. Corny, I'm so sure about that Haley bunch and that girl. If I could just get them signed to a contract and promote them right, we got a sensation on our hands.

Corny LaSalle : You want to take it from old Cornball? With the face and the figure on that Lisa doll, huh, she's probably been promoted by experts!

Steve Hollis : Oh, I'm not talkin' about that kind of pro- Hey, maybe I am. Sure! Sure, a romance, Corny. That way I may be able to soften her up into makin' a deal.

Corny LaSalle : Hey, now, wait a minute. These farmers up here have shotguns.

Steve Hollis : Get off of it. She's no farmer's daughter. You heard her say so herself. Her father owns the motel.

Corny LaSalle : In that case, he probably has two shotguns!

  • Lisa Johns : Does your friend always do things on the spur of the moment?

Corny LaSalle : It depends on who's wearing the spurs.

  • Corny LaSalle : Are you going to admit that a dame like Corinne beat ya?

Steve Hollis : Well, look, I'm perfectly willing to keep trying, if you want it that way.

    Corny LaSalle : Crazy, man!

Jimmy Johns : He's stayin'! Give me some skin! Yeah!

  • Steve Hollis : How do you like that, even the radio is singin' the blues. They make a fortune singin' about trouble, we spend a fortune getting into it.

Corny LaSalle : In short, we spent our roll on rock-n-roll.
