Quotes

  • Al Capone : Nobody leaves Al Capone, you understand that?

Maureen Flannery : Well I do!

Al Capone : Oh no, you don't!

Maureen Flannery : Would you do me a favor please? Would you kill me?

  • Dion O'Banion : [in O'Banion's flower shop, where Al is ordering a wreath for Colosimo's funeral]  You know that young waiter, Pete Flannery, that got knocked off?

Al Capone : Yeah, what about 'im?

    Dion O'Banion : A *fine* Irish lad.

Al Capone : So send him a wreath.

Dion O'Banion : Ohh, that's a lovely gesture on your part, Al. That's a grand thing you're doing. You know, his wife and baby... they're really gonna appreciate that.

Al Capone : Yeah? Make it a big one then, huh?

Dion O'Banion : You know, Al... He was only about your age.

[puts a flower in Capone's lapel]

Dion O'Banion : It's a dreadful thing to die so young.

Al Capone : Mm-hmm. Y'know somethin'? Somebody should have told him to duck.

  • Al Capone : [Johnny takes a stiff drink, coughs]  I don't know, Johnny... you been doin' a lot of boozin' lately.

Johnny Torrio : [gruffly]  So what?

Al Capone : So nuthin', whaddya gettin' so jumpy about?

Johnny Torrio : [visibly upset]  I didn't wanna knock off Big Jim, that's what I'm jumpy about.

Al Capone : Well, you got nuthin' to worry about. I mean, you got no *evidence,* you know. There's no, uh, witnesses or nuthin'.

Johnny Torrio : Yeahhh, you did a good job.

    [pauses]

Johnny Torrio : That Pete Flannery, he left a young wife and a baby behind.

Al Capone : I know, I already, uh, I already sent them a wreath.

Johnny Torrio : That's not enough!

    [yells, gruffly]

Johnny Torrio : The organization's gotta take care of them, right?

Al Capone : [quietly]  Right, right, Johnny Papa, you're 100% right.

Johnny Torrio : Yeah, I'll go there myself.

Al Capone : N-no, no, no, wait a minute. I can go. Let me go, I can take care of it, I can take care of anything.

Johnny Torrio : So you can...

    [nods]

Johnny Torrio : You got a great talent, Al.

    [pauses]

Johnny Torrio : Al... how much do you figure I'm gonna take in this year?

Al Capone : This year, I dunno, you'll take in, uh- let's see, maybe... uh, 100 grand?

Johnny Torrio : And how much I pay you now?

Al Capone : You mean by the week now?

    Johnny Torrio : Yeah.

Al Capone : Heh, heh, heh, you pay me 75 dollars a week.

Johnny Torrio : From now on you're gonna come in with me, you're gonna be my partner.

Al Capone : You kiddin' me?

Johnny Torrio : No, I'm not kidding you. You're gonna be partner with me for life. You get 25%- that's 25 grand a year- 500 bucks a week- that's a lot of dough for a growing boy.

Al Capone : Uh-huh. How come you're so good to me?

Johnny Torrio : Because, Al... I'm a great believer in life insurance... and *you're* the best insurance I can buy at any price.

[puts on his hat and leaves]
