Actually, apart from small areas coming under Belgian or Portuguese control, it became a British territory (under a League of Nations mandate). Neighbouring British East Africa (later Kenya) and Uganda were British protectorates.
Rick refers to Harry's old regiment, the King's Own Scottish Borderers, as kilted, which Harry acknowledges. The KOSB was a Lowland regiment and only its pipers wore the kilt.
