Trivialidades:
Director Sam Peckinpah insisted on shooting a nude scene for this film featuring one of the female extras. He claimed that this scene would only be included in the European release of the movie. Producer Martin Ransohoff eventually fired Peckinpah after it was discovered that Peckinpah intended using the nude scene in the US print as well. The extra who was to appear nude was star-to-be Sharon Tate. She disappeared from the film along with Peckinpah. másGoofs:

This fine film takes a look inside the world of high stakes poker that chronicles a tense, dramatic marathon between a rising young star and a cagey old pro. The fraternity of poker players descends on New Orleans to witness this greatly anticipated poker game that is reminiscent of a heavyweight title bout and bettors and onlookers flock to the hotel where the great game takes place. Steve McQueen is just right as the cool, detached Cincinnati Kid who aims to end the reign of Lancey Howard, considered the best poker player in the country. Edward G. Robinson displays nerves of steel, razor sharp instincts and a veteran's poise as he faces off against the Kid. Both stars are excellent and have good support from a solid cast of veteran actors. Ann-Margret is nice as a siren who just can't sit still when she and the Cincinnati Kid are in the same room. She slinks her way through her interpretation as the sluttish wife of Karl Malden's Shooter, a compromised card dealer who figures prominently in the grand poker game. The romantic angle between the Cincinnati Kid and girlfriend Christian doesn't ring true, although Tuesday Weld is pleasing as the neglected young woman who seems to be just an afterthought to the Kid. The cinematography is very good and shows a grim, gray, seedy side of New Orleans that brings realism to the story. The music has a jazzy score and nice vocals by the great Ray Charles.
