Just 35 minutes into the new “Twin Peaks,” the woman sitting next to me looked over and said, “Holy shit.”
We’d never met before, but I responded in kind. The two of us were far from alone: Everyone at the “Twin Peaks” world premiere had just let out a collective gasp after witnessing one of the most unsettling moments in David Lynch’s oeuvre. Considering the Winkie’s Scene in “Mulholland Drive,” the hallway phantom from “Inland Empire” and pretty much every moment of “Eraserhead,” that’s no small feat.
We were all at downtown Los Angeles’ Theatre at the Ace Hotel for the long-awaited return to “Twin Peaks,” which up until that moment I wasn’t fully onboard with. I found myself resisting the extended sequence, which takes place in New York and features characters (played by Ben Rosenfield and Madeline Zima) we’ve never met before. I kept...

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are defending their marriage after a recent report that their relationship was on the rocks.
On the recent cover of Star magazine, the tabloid claims that the Modern Family star was "caught cheating in Rome" with her wedding ring off. The photo for the cover appears to be of Vergara with producer Andrea Iervolino at the Ambi Gala in April, which the 44-year-old actress attended with the rest of the cast and crew of Bent.
In a spirited post on Instagram, Vergara slammed the infidelity allegations, claiming that the magazine photo shopped her wedding ring off her finger in the image. "The editor of this magazine is an idiot. If he is going to have my ring removed to create fake 'news,' he should have made sure that he removed from social media all the other pictures of that award night in Rome where I'm wearing it," she wrote. “The Daily Show” may have entered a new era with host Trevor Noah, but it’s not like the old cast went into retirement. Husband-and-wife contributors Jason Jones and Samantha Bee are among the most productive former members of the Jon Stewart “Daily Show” years — which is particularly notable once you discover they came close to taking over the program themselves.
Instead, the pair found a welcome home at TBS, where Bee hosts the weekly satiric news program “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” (which will air the special “Not the White House Correspondents Dinner” this weekend) and Jones serves as an executive producer. Meanwhile, the couple is also behind the TBS comedy “The Detour,” a subversive family comedy that they co-wrote and in which Jones stars.
Now wrapping its second season, “The Detour” began as an over-the-top road trip comedy with Jones as a corporate whistleblower moving his family across the country.

Bravo cameras should be rolling on this.
It's late afternoon on a recent Friday and I've spent the better part of the day with Stassi Schroeder, but this is the first moment that feels like I'm inside Vanderpump Rules. She's scanning an interview Lisa Vanderpump recently gave in which the reality show's grand dame described her cast members in one word. Stassi's bright-red nails move across the iPhone screen as she zooms in.
"I got 'spoiled'?" she asks aloud, mostly to herself, but possibly to the room.
A boozy happy hour has just been interrupted by shit-talking. But there are no producers. No cameramen slowly zooming in to film her reaction or sound guy holding the boom mic closer in case she lets rip one of her iconic, expletive-filled one-liners. Instead, she laughs slightly uncomfortably and asks, "Spoiled by what...?" She sits in silence for a moment. "Spoiled by what? Fine. Ok. Whatever...

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters everywhere right now, and while I thought it had a few excellent moments, it's mostly a disappointment. All due credit to Bryan Singer for kicking this film franchise off (and launching the modern superhero movie genre to a new level), but I don't think he's the right guy to continue making X-Men movies anymore. But if he has his way, he'd bring the original cast back for one more X-movie.
"I hope so. The night we had a little screening for the cast, I went and saw Patrick Stewart's wife sing at a local venue with Ian McKellen. The two of us were sitting there watching Patrick's lovely wife sing -- she has a great voice -- and I was thinking, yeah, at some point it would be lovely to see them all again. They're all great actors and great people, and I had great experiences with them.

After months and months of waiting and anticipation, the day is finally upon us. X-Men: Apocalypse has been widely released in theaters, and fans are finally able to feast their eyes upon the epic battle between the X-Men and Apocalypse and his horsemen. One of the more captivating aspects of Apocalypse is seeing beloved characters in their younger incarnations, with a new Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and Nightcrawler joining the fray. But now the question for future installments is, will we ever see the original cast again? Bryan Singer recently opened up to fandango, where he answered that question with: I hope so. The night we had a little screening for the cast, I went and saw Patrick Stewart’s wife sing at a local venue with Ian McKellen. The X-men franchise certainly got off to a pretty strong start. The first movie was understandably mainstream in its appeal, with a great focus on the mutant struggle. The second one amped things up, adding more credibility to the comic book movie genre as a whole. To some, X-2: X-men United holds up as one of the superior entries in the franchise. The decline in quality didn't come until X-men: The Last Stand, the third film in the franchise.
Unlike the first two movies, The Last Stand wasn't directed by Bryan Singer. Singer instead left the X-men to tackle Superman Returns, another picture that seemed to underwhelm the target fan base. The film was rushed to completion, with director Brett Ratner brought on board to helm the picture, and the results were a bit messy, to say the least. Ever since then, fans have always been left to wonder:...

Above: 1965 Czech poster for Three Fables of Love (Blasetti, Bromberger, Clair, Berlanga, Italy/Spain, 1962). Designer: Karel Teissig. Two events provoked this article. First of all, last week I saw the wonderful 1963 Czech fable The Cassandra Cat (a.k.a. When the Cat Comes) at New York’s newest cinephile hotspot, the Metrograph. In this charming New Wave satire a cat wearing dark glasses is brought into a small town by a circus troupe and, when his glasses are removed, the townspeople are revealed in their true colors: namely neon shades of purple, yellow and pink, each representing their vices or virtues. The highlight of the film for me, aside from a psychedelic freak-out dance party in the middle of the film, comes when all the children of the town march through the street bearing large drawings of cats. Chris Marker would have loved this film. The second event was the...

If the Academy is on the same time table they were last year with the Foreign Language Film volunteer committee we should know the 9 finalists from the 80-wide foreign submission list before the weekend. But before we get there, let's look back on where we've been. It's the most coverage we've ever done for one of our favorite categories so we hope you've been reading along and trying to see what you could (these films are often elusive, we know).

If you were to meet Australia-born, Arizona-raised musician Gregg Turkington, you'd find a somewhat shy, easygoing 47-year-old guy, the kind of person who seems more comfortable doing voiceover work for shows like Adventure Time than baiting a paying audience. But if you were to encounter his alter-ego in the indie cringe-comedy Entertainment — a sweaty, Borscht Belt-style stand-up with a penchant for phlegmy throat-clearing and telling rancid, rat-a-tat-tat one-liners like "Why did God create Domino's Pizza? To punish humanity for their complacency in letting the Holocaust happen" — you might be tempted...

The X Factor reaches the Judges' Houses stage of the competition this weekend, and the Groups were lucky enough to head to Rome to perform for their mentor Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and special guest judge Jess Glynne. If nothing else, it was a chance for them to get to grips with their new names:
1. 4th Impact
Formerly: 4th Power
Who are they? Mylene (23), Irene (25), Almira (27) and Celina (19) grew up singing and dancing together.

They say: "We are very fierce, energetic, powerful performers with angelic harmonies."

The X Factor duo Reggie n Bollie have revealed that they want to be a force for good in society.
The pair - formerly known in the competition as Menn On Point - flew to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's Judges' Houses in Rome in an attempt to prove that they deserve a place in the live shows.
And they revealed that they want to become a "household name" around the world.
"We want a global audience and want to tour non-stop," they said. "We want to be an act that represents a movement and does something positive for society.
"The two of us have been through a lot and come through that."
Reggie n Bollie added that none of the other acts are "urban reggae" like them, adding: "Our style of performing is also different. Everyone else is very choreographed and well rehearsed, but we are more about the vibe."

Kaitlyn Bristowe is the Bachelorette! She charmed her way into the hearts of the Bachelor Nation – and nearly the Bachelor himself, Chris Soules, on season 19 of The Bachelor. Now Kaitlyn has nearing the end of her televised journey to love.
Let's dive right in, shall we?!
Talk about an intense conversation between Nick and Shawn! That pretty much went exactly how I thought it would. I understand they don't like each other. It's a challenging position to be in for both Shawn and Nick. They are two totally different guys dating the same woman, so it makes sense for them to have tension.

Like all superheroes (or anyone else who uses a secret identity), there came a moment when someone finally cracked the code and published my real name. To be fair, my identity was a pretty poorly-kept secret by that point. The first time I went to an actual press event, I used my real name, and anytime I met someone, I used my real name. "Moriarty" was a fun identity to slip into, and especially in the early days of the site, we played up the mythology of things. My friends all got their own spy names and would show up in the reports in the form of Henchman Mongo and Segue Zagnut and Harry Lime and more. From my end, it was silly and fun, and not something to be taken seriously. But when Film Threat ran a fairly vicious hit piece on Harry, I was also a target, and...

The two biggest additions to the "Avengers" ensemble in next month's "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" are Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. They play a key role in the mega-sequel, and they manage to create some interesting tensions for both the heroes and the villains in the film. Olsen was the first to sit down with us on the set, and we jumped right in, having already heard a number of things about her character from the rest of the cast. Can you talk about your Eastern European accent? (looking at the Marvel producers) Can I talk about it? We know that we're from Eastern Europe, so, okay, so, yeah, it’s something that we got to create. It's a make believe place, so it's something that Aaron and I, with the dialect coach, kind of created together. What's the name of the fake country? That I can't talk about, but it's,...

Scott Adsit has spent over a decade playing and voicing different supporting characters in dozens of television shows and movies. All his hard work is paying off thanks to the landmark role the actor took on for Disney’s incredibly popular Big Hero 6. He voices Baymax, the loveable inflatable robot, who lead character Hiro teams up with to fight evil in San Fransokyo.
I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Adsit about what will no doubt be a career-defining role. Big Hero 6 has the potential to become a monstrous franchise that could go on for years to come. His character of Baymax will obviously be a central figure in any sequels Disney would make.
We chatted about the possibility of sequels, how he got the role of Baymax, why audiences should see Big Hero 6, and more. The two of us also discussed the lack of a Marvel...

And Radius-twc will release “The Last Five Years,” Richard Lagravenese’s adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s off-Broadway musical chronicling the relationship between a struggling actress (Kendrick) and her novelist boyfriend (Jeremy Jordan), in February. After that, Kendrick will be seen reprising her role as a cappella group leader Beca in a sequel to Universal’s 2012 comedy sleeper “Pitch Perfect,” thanks to the hefty DVD sales and platinum-selling soundtrack which boosted that film’s relatively modest $113 million worldwide gross. Was it a thrill to be making "Into The Woods," being someone who respects Sondheim’s work as much as you do? It was a total dream. There was a day when Tracey Ullman and I were just staring at the set wearing these lush Colleen Atwood costumes and Chris Pine was riding in on a horse. The two of us are just standing there feeling so grateful to be there.

In 1974, TV audiences were introduced to the Ingalls family, a frontier clan living in a rustic cabin in the Minnesota wilderness during the 1870s and '80s. America was in the middle of its Me Decade, with an exhausting war and general upheaval at home. The weekly dramas of a farmer and his children—based on the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder—were an irresistible look at a simpler time when people based their lives around family, home, and church. (All nine seasons are available on Digital HD on Amazon; seasons 1–3 are also available on Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate.

Last week, when Warner Bros. announced its entire DC Comics slate through 2020, perhaps the biggest point of intrigue for me was the announcement of Suicide Squad, about a team of incarcerated supervillains taking on high-risk black ops missions for the U.S. government in exchange for reduced prison sentences. In addition to announcing the movie, Warners also mentioned David Ayer would helm the A-Team-esque actioner. Suicide Squad is a property I know nothing about, save for the quick premise above, but it certainly sounds promising and it seems to fit well within its director's wheelhouse. Ultimately I think it could turn out pretty well, especially if Ayer is able to make good on what he recently told Empire regarding what audiences can expect for the film: "I can say that it's a Dirty Dozen with super-villains. Then I can ask the question, 'Does a movie really need good guysc'" Further,...
