The only version of this movie I could find was neither dubbed, nor
subtitled. This means that, as a white girl who was born and raised in
California, I understand about 25% of what the characters are saying.
No matter, I still love this film! The good and noble El Santo,
professional wrestler and crimefighter, teams up with his best buddy,
the Blue Demon, to battle the newly risen Dracula and his gold
disco-shirted sidekick, Rufus Rex the Werewolf! There's some great,
cheesy, fun stuff here: underground laboratories, a rubber bat that
flaps its wings spastically (in a scene that made me laugh so hard I
almost fell off my chair) before turning into the suave Dracula, a
little girl with the worlds worst mullet and, last but not least, a pit
lined with sharpened stakes, over which our heroes must walk on a
narrow plank. Darn those pesky werewolves, they keep shaking the plank
and the tension is insufferable!!! El Santo battles through it all to
save his lovely girlfriend and his buddy Blue Demon, and there's time
enough for a few games of chess and cards and, of course, a couple of
wrestling matches before it's all over and the good guys live happily
ever after.
If you like corny Dracula films and honest-to-goodness wrestling
matches, then do NOT miss this one! It's a lot of fun. All of the Santo
films are.

I admit it, I'm starting to get seriously hooked on the surreal adventures
of El Santo, the silver-masked wrestler cum crime fighter. One thing I
really dig about the Santo movies is that continuity doesn't seem to be a
big issue, so you can seemingly watch them in any order. At least that's my
experience so far. Each one I've seen has Santo with a new love interest and
a new set of adventures caused by a new acquaintance, usually a Professor of
some sort. This time it's Professor Cristaldi (Jorge Mondragon), the Uncle
of El Santo's girlfriend Lina (Nubia Marti). 400 years earlier the
Professor's ancestor had defeated Count Dracula and he is worried that his
family, which also includes his daughter and granddaughter, are in grave
danger. Of course he's right, an evil hunchback called Eric (Wally Barron)
raises Dracula (Aldo Monti) from the dead and also resurrects Dracula's
sidekick The Wolfman, aka Rufus Rex (Agustin Martinez Solares). Santo
enlists the help of his great buddy Blue Demon (Alejandro Cruz) after the
Professor is kidnapped, and away we go. The movie is full of fun and
fisticuffs and like the others I've seen in the series, seriously nutty.
Some of my favourite moments included Santo and Blue Demon relaxing playing
chess (with their masks on naturally!), a "walk the plank" scene featuring
some meddlesome werewolves and a wrestling match against "Renato The
Hippie". If you've never seen a Santo movie this is a great place to
start!

Santo and The Blue Demon etc... is a surprisingly inventive movie from
1973. While you laugh there are a few chills as the story unfolds. It
looks vaguely like a Hammer Studios Dracula film, with some nice color,
and the two girls whom Dracula would like to make a part of his army of
darkness dressed in each scene in cute miniskirts as they walk off into
the night to heed his call. There's enough tension and character
development to get the viewer at least a little interested in the sorry
fate that awaits them if Dracula succeeds. No matter though, because
the ending fought over a pit of sharp stakes is one of the best parts
of the movie, which though isn't full of great parts, has more than
anyone would have any right to expect.

The realm of Lucha Libre is a world unto itself, completely separate
from American and Japanese wrestling. In Mexico, the wrestlers really
ARE superheroes and super-villains. And none are more heroic or revered
than Santo and Blue Demon, the greatest of the masked luchadores who
ventured into film. Here, they confront their sternest challenge yet,
as Count Dracula and the Wolfman rise from their graves to torment the
living! Cheesy or not, these films are fascinating with their surreal
ignorance of reality and logic. Santo and Blue Demon have no secret
identities...they are masked 24-7 and when they are not rumbling in the
ring, they are fighting crooks, robots, spies and monsters.
The film begins with straight up lucha action as Santo faces El Angel
Blanco in a weird empty arena filled with blues and reds. We hear the
sounds of a crowd we never see! Santo gets a hard fought victory over
Angel and then is called to the home of Professor Cristaldi, uncle of
his current love interest, Lina. Cristaldi has just received a
threatening note saying every member of his family is doomed. Centuries
ago, an ancestor of Cristaldi vanquished Count Dracula and his servant
the Wolfman with the help of a magic dagger. Before perishing, Dracula
said he would return when the time is right to destroy all the
Cristaldis! The time is now. A bearded, sinister hunchback named Eric
kidnaps Cristaldi, hangs him upside down over Dracula's skeleton and
slashes his throat. The drops of blood bring the suave Count back to
life (his bare skeleton suddenly develops elegant clothing and even a
cane) and also revive the Wolfman, who has the unlikely name of Rufus
Rex. The werewolf makeup is not half bad and Rufus is quite handsome in
his human form. This diabolical trio unleash a plot to eliminate the
Cristaldis. Handsome Rufus will woo Laura Cristaldi (Lina's sister) and
then sacrifice her during a full moon to the powers of darkness.
Laura's young daughter will then be the next to fall, along with Lina.
Santo secures the services of his wrestling friend Blue Demon (who has
just won a match against Renato the Hippie) and the two embark on a
wild adventure where they fight not only a gang of thugs recruited by
Eric, but a legion of vampire and werewolf slaves of Dracula and Rufus.
It's non-stop hilarity and also non-stop excitement. I'd take this over
big budget Hollywood snoozefests like "Constantine" and "The Hulk" any
day! All continuity with the past of Dracula is ignored. There's no
mention of Transylvania, Dr. van Helsing, Renfield or anything else.
Rufus can speak and reason while in his wolfman form, though his
servants are growling beasts.
The movie subtly makes Santo the superior of Blue Demon. Word has it
that the two luchadores did not get along all that well in real life,
and Blue Demon eventually split off to appear in the "Campeones
Justicieros". I would say Demon is the more muscular of the pair and
also the better wrestler. There is something amazing about Santo,
though...even through the silver mask, he has a heroic, easy-going and
trustworthy quality that makes you believe he's a real champion.
As goofy as the movie is, it does have some atmosphere and there's one
scene when the little girl is wandering around the spooky house of the
monsters that actually jolted me pretty well. There is also death and
mayhem here...some of the characters meet deadly fates! I dug the organ
music throughout. Bottom line: this is one of the more entertaining
lucha movies ever made and a great place for novices to start examining
this unique form of cinema!!!

After facing defeat at the hands of Cristaldi the magician, Dracula is
back
to seek revenge and rule the world in SANTO Y BLUE DEMON VS. DRACULA AND
THE
WOLFMAN. With the help of the Wolfman and his legion of followers, victory
seems imminent. Professor Cristaldi, a descendant of the magician, is
warned
about Dracula's plans and calls upon El Santo and Blue Demon in the hopes
that they can put the infamous count and the werewolf down for
good.
Nice underground entertainment with two wrestlers as heroes. The protect
their beautiful girlfriend against a shallow Dracula and a great wolfman.
Very cheesy but kind of fun with lots of fights.

Mexico's masked wrestling superhero, El Santo, is back in action - this
time
fighting Count Dracula and the Wolf Man! At his side is the legendary Blue
Demon, another great wrestler/crimefighter. They make a mucho grande team.
The film's a cheesy delight in part, marred by some slow moments. Still
plenty of two-fisted action and loud '70s fashions, though. Highlights:
the
warehouse brawl, Santo and Blue enjoying a dinner date with their
girlfriends at a restaurant, dressed in suits and wearing their masks.
(Yep,
they never take 'em off.)

This is a seriously scholocky movie. Imagine being shadowed by two
masked wrestlers in a convertable. Two wrestlers who are so unaware
that they didn't notice the young woman hiding under the small blanket
in the back seat. Unaware, yet brilliant! They play chess. Blue Demon
invented a wrist watch radio. It is a lot like Batman (the Adam West
version)...
With seriously short mini-skirts, three full length Mexican wrestling
matches and more werewolves than one could shake a sacred dagger at,
this is a good time at the bad movies. Enjoy it with someone who has
the same low standards that I do...

Sit back and relax. You are back in the seventies, and this is not a
bad movie.I heard of Santo movies for a long time but never could get
any until this one. It is very difficult, if not impossible to get it
in zone 2 dubbed or subtitled, and I could only watch it in Spanish.
Well, the movie is a good one. Adventure movie, that is. It is
surprisingly well filmed with bright colors,The characters are well
defined, and the acting is good with a good plot : Santo y Dlue Demon
save the world from the undead invasion. Of course don't wait great
GFX, you are back in 73, but some recent movies are far worse than this
one, even with a lot of CGI. See Van Helsing if you don't trust me. a
lot of action, a lot of brawling and wrestling and some funny make up.
I had exactly what I paid for : 1h40 of entertainment.
