Elvis Presley kicked off his acting career with a supporting role in 1956’s Love Me Tender. This would be the only film in which Elvis did not receive top billing. For the next 30 films, Elvis was the lead and main attraction, cementing his status as a movie star on top of his music career. Despite the success, Elvis was not happy. He said he realized he had to stop making movies because it was making him sick.
Elvis Presley said his acting career stressed him out to the point of illness
When Elvis began to work as an actor, it was just another step that his manager felt he should take on his rise to success.
“It was work,” he said, per the book Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick. “It was a job. I had to be there at a certain time in the morning...

Elvis Presley‘s “Hound Dog” is one of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s biggest songs. He still got sick of it. Priscilla Presley gave fans insight into Elvis’ state of mind after they divorced. She also revealed how Elvis’ mother’s death changed his view of life.
Elvis Presley didn’t want to be singing ‘Hound Dog’ when he was 40
In her 1985 book Elvis and Me, Priscilla reflected on the state of her ex-husband’s career following their divorce in 1973, when Elvis was 38. “His movie career was at a standstill, and he focused on Vegas appearances and touring. Elvis had trouble seeing himself ‘a forty-year-old man still shaking to ‘Hound Dog,”” she wrote. “He had other ambitions. He once talked of producing, even directing, but he never took steps to pursue either.”
For context, Elvis acted in a film for the last time in 1969, when he played a physician in Change of Habit.

For seven years, Elvis Presley performed multiple residencies in Las Vegas. The king of rock and roll thrilled concertgoers at the International Hotel twice yearly. Presley performed twice a night in a run of 636 shows. However, the fun didn’t always stop after the curtain fell. The entertainer once admitted jam sessions sometimes ran “until daylight.”

In 1972, Elvis Presley discussed his Las Vegas performances while filming “Elvis On Tour.” He gave two separate interviews with the directors of the movie, Pierre Adidge, and Robert Abel, during his Madison Square Garden shows in New York City.
In the footage, an unknown person reveals that after Presley completes two shows per evening, he and his band sometimes continue to perform into the wee hours of the morning.

Imagine an on-the-road concert documentary shot in the anything-goes days of 1970 — a hurly-burly vérité jamboree like “Mad Dogs & Englishmen” or “Elvis on Tour.” It’s about the biggest rock band in the world. It encompasses 11 shows in 26 days, with headlines and controversies and a film crew to capture it all. We see the band members backstage, on planes, in their nightly lodgings, and onstage. The crowds are rapturous.
“What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?” is, in a way, that movie. The band that’s on tour, the mighty but fraught Blood, Sweat & Tears, was full of great musicians who most people didn’t know by name. Yet as fronted by the intoxicating huskiness of lead singer David Clayton-Thomas, they emerged from the embers of the counterculture to become one of the first true supergroups. By the time their 1970 tour arrived, Blood, Sweat & Tears were the most popular rock band in America,...

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

Before we get to the new releases, Amazon is offering deals on a selection of Warner Home Video Blu-ray Digibook packs which range from $11.49-$17.99 including The Shawshank Redemption, Poltergeist and an excellent choice in Mutiny on the Bounty starring Charles Laughton and Clark Gable, which, in my opinion, is vastly superior to the 1962 Marlon Brando version. Memphis, Tenn. — It was 1973, and Elvis Presley's comeback was in fifth gear.
After years of making mediocre movies, he had returned to touring and performing in Las Vegas. In January of that year, he staged the "Aloha from Hawaii" concert live via satellite, viewed by a billion people worldwide.
But, due to a contractual obligation, he also needed to create new material. He and manager Col. Tom Parker decided that Presley's beloved Memphis was the place to do it.
The result was two recording sessions at Stax Records, the influential studio where Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam & Dave and others created the "Memphis soul" sound in the 1960s and early 1970s.
Presley's sessions in July and December 1973 produced country, R&B and pop songs that were released in three separate albums.
Forty years after Presley's Stax sessions, RCA Legacy is releasing the three-cd box set "Elvis at Stax: Deluxe Edition" on Tuesday.

Certain celebrities, when they've reached a certain zenith in their... celebritiness, are capable of shedding their status as a human being, trading up to become something more timeless: an icon. Elvis Aaron Presley died three decades ago, and now when people recall him, it is often as a pop culture pillar, more so than an actual person who lived, to the point where his music is near irrelevant. His image instantly recognizable regardless, and so is his first name alone.
This Blu-ray collection is yet another symbol in the King's cultural perseverance. Released to commemorate what would've been Elvis' 75th year (although his birthday was back in January), this package is titled simply Elvis, because why bother with anything else? It's Elvis.
Within it contains the three most essential movies in Elvis' middling film career: Jailhouse Rock, the breakout sensation that gave us his most famous dance number; Viva Las Vegas,...

This is the perfect set for anyone who has ever wanted to dip into Elvis onscreen. The hi-def transfers look better than any other release out there and the audio is solid as well. Taking into account how old these films are it would be difficult to expect much more. Newly restored and remastered video and audio make this a no brainer for fans. Included are Elvis On Tour the Golden Globe Winning doc. Filmed in 1972 it catches the King at the heart of his comeback trail and offers a boatload of special features that look back at Elvis early rise to fame including his Ed Sullivan performance and a Martin Scorcese supervised montage. The other two films included here are Jailhouse Rock and Viva Las Vegas which both include commentary from music journalist Steve Pond. A couple of featurettes round out the special features here.

The Last Song, a treacly affair that is virtually unwatchable outside its target demographic (which is about 5 years younger than the film thinks it is), is the next great bit of glorious banality for both Nicholas Sparks and Miley Cyrus. Sparks, who really likes himself, aims at a somewhat younger crowd this time around, apparently in the hopes of proving that the laughably nonsensical appeals to a more diverse age range than was previously believed.
Teen whippersnapper Ronnie (Cyrus) is forced to spend the summer with her father, who she marks as the villain in her parents’ divorce. This is rather hard to get behind, as her composer father (Greg Kinnear) is so affable he’s practically mushy. It’s also tricky to play along with in the same sense that everything else in the film is, because I didn’t believe anything Cyrus was trying to portray for a second.

Chicago – Elvis may have left the building, but his work remains viscerally alive in this breezily enjoyable concert documentary. It was filmed during a 15-city tour in April of 1972, and captures the King of Rock at a triumphant peak late in his career, one year before his infamous “Aloha from Hawaii” concert (the first globally broadcast via satellite) and five years before his death.
Sometimes it’s difficult to remember just how gifted Elvis Presley was, since the popularity of his image has far outstretched that of his talent. He’s become an icon in the John Wayne mold, beloved more for what he represented rather than what he accomplished. His persona has been channelled and satirized by countless actors (most memorably, Nicolas Cage and Val Kilmer), and his voice is remembered more for its distinctive timber than its fiery energy.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
Yet “Elvis on Tour” portrays the larger-than-life man in refreshingly human terms.

Few rock documentaries to come along in the last several decades have come close to matching the intensity, interest, and amazing footage found in Elvis On Tour. From 1972 performances, the film was an instant classic of the genre, and is now available newly restored and remastered, and the Blu-Ray edition is a true must-own for fans.

Elvis Aaron Presley would.ve been 75 this year, and Warner Brothers has brought all of their Elvis films together in this box set. Still, buyers should beware of some quality control issues. Elvis was a phenomenon that possibly started maniacal hero worship or at least brought it to the forefront of the nation (I.d wager Valentino and Chaplin helped out). He sang hit songs, made hit movies, and wowed the crowds at live sold-out concerts. Unfortunately the rigors, wealth, and excess of such fame turned out to be the death of him and the end was not pretty. His film output would not win any awards (well, one since Elvis on Tour won a Golden Globe)...

Lost footage of Elvis Presley on tour is to feature in a remastered documentary, which will be released to mark what would have been the King's 75th year. "Elvis on Tour: 75th Anniversary Celebration" will be released to cinemas for a limited run at the end of July.
The new movie will include remastered concert footage from a 1972 documentary and interviews and footage from "Elvis on Tour", Presley's final film before his death in 1977. Much of the footage has never been seen before.
Presley would have turned 75 on 8 January, 2011. Meanwhile, three never-before-seen photos of Presley greeting fans at the gates of his Graceland home in Memphis, Tennessee have been discovered in an unmarked envelope among the business files of the late superstar's father, Vernon. The photos will be part of an exhibit at Graceland in Memphis, which will run during Elvis Week in August.
