The film was presented at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. According to an anecdote director Luigi Comencini shared in his autobiography, the festival's jury presided by René Clair was strongly considering to award the film's lead Stefania Sandrelli with the Best Actress award. However, juror Monica Vitti was able to talk the other members out of it by revealing the fact-- of which they were unaware-- that Sandrelli had been dubbed in the film with a Southern Italy accent by colleague Carla Todero.
