The "Que" wants to rid the islands of the "5 fugitive children" as they have knowledge of the outside world. If this knowledge were to reach the locals the Que would be ruined.
The children meet Helen officially, who takes them to where their boat has been wrecked. They learn about the island from Helen, who tells them that the leader - Q - is over 200 years old.
The children come up with a plan to liberate Helen's brother, who's been imprisoned for failing to pay taxes. They also hear some worrying news on their ship's radio, when they hear the search party to find them has been called off.
Jeremiah decides to follow Aaron as he heads to find Jason. A lonely hermit comes across Aaron as he continues to search for Jason, and questions whether he is Adam Quinn.
In order to keep up the food supply, Anna, Mark, Jason, Su Ying and David go fishing. What they don't know is that there is a bad storm heading right for the island - but no one will believe Tony and Jeremiah.
Jason tells David and Mark that the old hermit attacked him. When they meet up with the hermit though, he tells a slightly different story. Aaron has been missing too much school as the headmaster goes to see his mother.
The children are told that the search party was called off because they were presumed dead, by a pilot who crashes his plane on the island - and he may not make it as he is badly injured.
Mark is lured by Aaron into the dense forest, catching on that maybe Aaron isn't trying to help them. Meanwhile, David continues to plan the children's escape.
The headmaster again is chasing up Aaron because of the amount of school he is missing. Jeremiah comes up with a plan with Tony to teach agriculture to an old widow who may be able to help them.
People on the island are becoming sick and the children want to help. Thomas steals a book, but because it is in Latin the children are unable to read it.
Q finally captures David and tries to convince David to help them - but he isn't sure whether to trust Q. In order to keep safe, David spins a story, and hopes that Q will fall for it.
While surfing, Tony meets a lovely girl named Bess. Unbeknownst to Tony, his friendship with Bess puts him in danger, because the QUE is her legal guardian.
Tony meets a girl called Bess who appears to be able to do anything she wants, whenever she wants. What Tony doesn't realise is that Q is in charge of taking care of her and she has a plan for Tony.
Christian Dobler, a teacher, arrives on the island after the winds took him off course. He is found by the children, who shelter him from Q, but then Christian disappears.
Anna and Christian are caught, after the children find out that Christian only left because he hadn't hidden his boat properly. But will Christian stay to help the children if they manage to free them?
Helen warns the children that the volcano will erupt soon as it does every year. They stay away, until they hear that the Prime Minister gets himself trapped on the mountain.
The Prime MInister is at it again with his demands and now wants David to help him become a bird. David creates a glider, but things go wrong when the wind sends the Prime Minister crashing into the ocean.
Anna and Su Ying enjoy the simply joy of listing to a music box found on the ship. The kids are surprised to find the old hermit on their ship, he too being drawn to the music box, taking it with him when he flees into the jungle.
The Prime Minister still has his eye on the horse he lost in the race to Aaron. So when Q leaves for a while, he sees his opportunity to get the horse.
David finds an amphibious armored vehicle from WWII. The children repair the vehicle and disguise it as a monster, using it to frighten the QUE's henchmen.
