A slight drama with romance in the first serious role for the great Lina Morgan
ma-cortes12 December 2023
An enticing but disconcerting Spanish dramedy film and with its ups and downs ; here our protagonist, the great Lina Morgan, demonstrates her real performing skills . At 35 years old and despite having a good job as a secretary, Gina Alonso (Lina Morgan) is still single, and virgin, perhaps because she suffers from a serious overweight problem and men don't wish her. When her boyfriend (Chris Huerta) leaves her, a period full of sadness, melancoly and monotony begins for Gina. Gina is really in trouble, she weighs 85 kilos, is 1.65 meters tall and considers herself a fat failed spinster. At least, the burly Gina has been called by her mature boss Manuel (Fernando Fernán Gómez) as a new function of her private secretary. Manuel is a veteran man with no family and who lives alone; when he suddenly has a heart attack due to his hard-working she then visits and takes care of him at the hospital. However, everything suddenly changes when she meets a very handsome young doctor (Juan Luis Galiardo), but whose intentions are not very clear. Gina then decides to investigate the motives that move her new suitor.

A pleasant film starring the unforgettable Lina Morgan here in her first dramatic role. It is a melodrama of a fat, spinster woman who sees herself as lonely and marginalized because she is not pretty, she is fatty and has never had a physical relationship with a man. This film is made to entertain, and this movie, especially for a good time and a pleasant drama with brief message. Throughout an irregular plot, and with emphasis on romance and the caricature of the protagonist, we follow the adventures of Lina Morgan and Juan Luis Galiardo in a succession of disasters and contrasts that are more or less fortunate in their slightly dramatic purposes. Bemusing story with enjoyable but also absurd moments and attractive acting by likable protagonists: Lina Morgan and Juan Luís Galiardo. Due to a certain success of 'Imposible para una solterona'(1976), they would repeat the performance in 'Un día con Sergio' (1976) also directed by Rafael Marchent . They are well accompanied by a good secondary cast, such as: Mara Cruz, Cris Huerta, Rafael Vaquero and cameos from Inma de Santis and Ramiro Oliveros. Here there are some nice performers and the cast , playing eccentric characters, making a cosy fit. It is a Spanish melodrama that offers no intellectual stimulus whatsoever , though it has some entertaining and sensitive moments. The film attempts to give a few laughs but it falls short, resulting in a mediocre and sometimes embarrassing film. An uneven story with enjoyable but also absurd moments and charming acting by a likable comedian : Lina Morgan , a famous Spanish actress as cinema as stage in her successful theatre La Latina , Madrid. The films were with short budget and lackluster but including comedy and lots of fun , and most of them directed by Mariano Ozores , Pedro Lazaga or Pedro Masó. Lina was a famous actress , she starred successful films , such as : ¨La Tonta Del Bote¨, ¨La Graduada¨ , ¨La Descarrida¨, ¨Fin Semana Al Desnudo¨ , ¨Pecados De Una Chica Decente ¨ , ¨Una Pareja Distinta¨ , ¨Esta Es Lo Que Es¨, ¨Un Dia con Sergio¨, ¨Imposible Para Una Solterona¨and several others . Being specially known for his TV series such as ¨Hostal Royal Manzanares (1996), Una De Dos (1998) and Academia Baile Gloria (2001), but she left ¨Escenas De Matrimonio¨ three weeks after joining the cast , due to health problems until her death in 2015 . The films were with short budget, lackluster and with many support's actors, but including comedy and lots of fun , and many of them directed by Mariano Ozores.

The motion picture was mediocre but professionally directed ny Rafael Romero Marchent. He was born on May 3, 1926 in Madrid, Spain. He is a director and actor, known for Garringo, Un Dolar de Recompensa , or Manos Torpes. Rafael Romero Marchent was brother of Joaquin Luis Romero, who was the first to shoot Westerns in Spain. At first, Rafael Romero began in films as an actor, but when his career began to wane, he preferred to spend time behind the camera . Rafael is an expert writer and director of Spaghetti Western as proved in ¨Two crosses on Danger Pass¨, Cry for revenge¨, ¨Two guns for two twins¨ and ¨Sartana Kills Them All¨ or ¨Un par Asesinos¨. While his brother Joaquin Marchent is deemed the Paella Western's best director , his first film was ¨El Coyote¨ and the sequel titled ¨Revenge of Coyote¨ shot in Mexico ; after that , he filmed ¨The shadow of Zorro¨ and ¨Revenge of Zorro¨, he went go directing Western as ¨ Riding to death ¨ , ¨Adventures in the West¨ , ¨Three good men¨, ¨Sabor Venganza ¨ and the most popular and violent ¨Condenados a Vivir¨ . Plus , he wrote for his brother Rafael Romero Marchent the followings Western : ¨Manos Torpes¨, ¨Ocaso Un Pistolero¨ , ¨Garringo¨ , ¨Dos Cruces en Danger Pass¨ and ¨Sartana Kills Them All¨. Rating : 5/10. Average but passable and acceptable, though contains some flaws and gaps.
