If you’re a fan of both horror and soundtracks, like me, you know there’s an embarrassment of riches to collect– especially in the current golden age of boutique labels like Waxwork Records and One Way Static. Some of these horror soundtracks are highly uncommon, not because they’re for obscure films or TV series, but because they break the mold in numerous ways.
Read on for some of the most unusual horror soundtracks ever released….
And feel free to add your own oddities in the comments!
Monster In My Pocket (1992)
This might just be the most unusual soundtrack on this list, given that it’s for a toy line! It’s a shame I didn’t pick this up as a kid, because I loved Monster In My Pocket toys and this Halloween-y compilation sounds right up my alley. (I probably would have worn out the cassette playing it year round.

Paul Thomas Anderson grew up in the San Fernando Valley, which played an important role in his 1997 breakthrough film “Boogie Nights,” which looked at Valley’s porn industry during the ‘70s and 80s. In his new United Artists release “Licorice Pizza,” Anderson returns to the Sfv for a nostalgia-tinged comedy-of-age story set in 1973 starring Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim. Both young performers received strong notices with the L.A. Times’ Justin Chang declaring Haim as the true star of “this boisterous, bighearted movie and its raison d’être.” And Bradley Cooper has earned positive notices for his funny turn as hairdresser turned film producer Jon Peters, who ironically was a producer on Cooper’s 2018 “A Star is Born.”
So, what was the world like in 1973? It was the year of Watergate, Roe Vs. Wade and “The Exorcist” hitting the big screen. Let’s travel back almost half a century to look at the top films,...

Going into this year’s Golden Globes, Jennifer Lopez is currently predicted to win Best Film Supporting Actress with 69/20 odds in Gold Derby’s combined predictions for her performance in this past summer’s box office hit, “Hustlers.” On paper, you’d think the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would easily do that in a heartbeat, like how they awarded Sylvester Stallone Best Film Supporting Actor in 2015 for “Creed.” However, what may not bode well for Lopez’s chances is the fact that she is the only recognition the film itself received from the Golden Globes.
To date, only seven contenders have won this award as their film’s lone nomination: Cate Blanchett (“I’m Not There”), Angelina Jolie, Mira Sorvino (“Mighty Aphrodite”), Dianne Wiest (“Bullets Over Broadway”), Brenda Vaccaro (“Once is Not Enough”), Agnes Moorehead and Janet Leigh (“Psycho”). Can JLo overcome that important stat to become the eighth?

Actress Barbara Harris died on August 21 at age 83. The name may not be familiar to younger readers since Harris was the rare performer who climbed to the top of the show business heap but then walked away from it all. She also had one of the most unusual awards histories of anybody.
I remember Harris vividly from my childhood when I saw her in the Disney film “Freaky Friday” opposite a young Jodie Foster. The film centered on a mother and her young daughter who both simultaneously wish they could switch places with each other for a day. By way of Disney magic, the two actually do switch bodies thus having the mother forced to deal with life in school and the daughter tending to the problems of being a housewife. I can still remember the theater echoing with the joyous laughter of children as Harris jumps on a skateboard...

It's a shock to go back and watch "Midnight Cowboy" 45 years after its debut (on May 25, 1969) and see how raw and otherworldly it looks. After all, the X-rated Best Picture Oscar-winner has been so thoroughly assimilated into American pop culture that even kiddie entertainments like the Muppets have copied from it.
The tale of the unlikely friendship between naïve Texas gigolo Joe Buck (Jon Voight) and frail Bronx con man Enrico "Ratso" Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman), "Midnight Cowboy" was initially considered so risqué that it's the only X-rated movie ever to win the Academy's top prize (though after it won, the ratings board reconsidered and gave the film an R). Still, the film featured two lead performances and a few individual scenes that were so iconic that homages (and parodies) have popped up virtually everywhere. (Most often imitated is the scene where Ratso, limping across a busy Manhattan street, is nearly...

One night during my college years, I was pulling an all-nighter studying for finals when I caught an old movie on TV; a flick called Willa that concerned a divorced mother who becomes a truck driver.
I saw a lot of myself in Willa, the shy, smiling blonde with the heart and will of a lion. And seeing this movie got me to thinking, “What can I do?”
Deborah Raffin, the actress who played Willa, passed away Wednesday, November 21st, 2012 after a battle with leukemia. In her all too brief existence this woman accrued a vast list of accomplishments that reflected her boundless talents.
As an actress her regal demeanor and angelic beauty served her well in glittery romances like 40 Carats and Jacqueline Susann’s Once is Not Enough. Yet she also played heroines whose strength, intellect and resourcefulness were of far more importance than her grace and fashion sense.

Deborah Raffin, who had brief but successful careers both as an actress - 7th Heaven, among other shows - and a book publisher, died of leukemia last Wednesday, a family member told the Los Angeles Times. Raffin was 59 and reportedly had battled the disease for about a year. Starting out, the blonde Californian was often compared to the young Grace Kelly, People noted in a 1979 profile. Her mother, Trudy Marshall, had been a bit player for 20th Century Fox in the '40s, and her father was a wealthy meat broker. When Raffin was a sophomore at Valley College in Van Nuys,...

Before founding the profitable audio-book company Dove Books-on-Tape in the mid-’80s,Deborah Raffin was a busy actress. The Los Angeles native landed parts in the 1973 film 40 Carats and in 1975′s Once Is Not Enough adapted from the steamy Jacqueline Susann novel. On Monday (May 14), the cast of "Mad Men" -- including Jon Hamm, January Jones, Kiernan Shipka, John Slattery and Christina Hendricks -- sits down with "Inside the Actors Studio" host James Lipton to talk about their critically acclaimed show, currently in the midst of Season 5 on AMC.
Creator Matthew Weiner, who was also along for the trip, explains in the clip below why Hamm (who plays the dashing Don Draper) had to audtion six or seven times for the part: "Someone said that he wasn't sexy."

Also, Jones explains the origins of her calendrical first name:
"It is from a book called 'Once Is Not Enough' by Jacqueline Susann," she says. "I think at the end of the book, not to spoil it, but, she trips on acid and gets abducted by aliens after being married and divorced to her father's best friend. It's entertaining... [my parents] just thought...

Once is not enough. Sometimes a second look, or a second episode, is necessary to convince a skeptic that a show is worth taking a risk on. So it is with ABC's dazzling but dauntingly precious Once Upon a Time (Sunday, 8/7c), which back when I was considering it for Fall Preview left me wondering: "Is this ambitiously whimsical fantasia the next Pushing Daisies cult fave or the next Eastwick insta-flop? (Either way, it will likely be an uphill climb to happily ever after.) It would be easier to love if it weren't so convoluted and campy."
But then ABC made another episode (the third, airing Nov. 6) available for review, and I started to find myself enchanted and beguiled, ready to curl up with more chapters of this fractured fairy tale. First, though, you have to digest the premise, and the overstuffed and often overripe pilot is a lot to swallow.

Washington, May 23: January Jones has revealed that despite people's opinion that she has doctored her name to earn fame, she could have been an 'actress, a super hero or a stripper' owing to her unusual name that her mother kept from a book.
"My mum had read 'Once Is Not Enough' by Jacqueline Susann and she and my dad liked how January sounded with Jones. People think that I changed.

January Jones has teased that she could have easily become a stripper instead of an actress. The Mad Men star joked that her career possibilities were somewhat limited by her mother's choice of name, which she claims was taken from a classic novel. She told Live Magazine: "My mum had read Once Is Not Enough by Jacqueline Susann and she and my dad liked how January sounded with Jones. People think that I changed my name to be an actress but my sisters have unusual names too. "I also found out recently that there was an old singer named January Jones. With this name I could only have been an actress, a superhero or a stripper." The 33-year-old expressed further (more)...

The cotton-white shag carpets, the eight-inch-wide dinner jacket lapels, the nightclub bongo jazz, whiskey decanters in every room, sideburns on every over-tanned skull, Vaseline on every camera lens -- the 1975 of Jacqueline Susann's Once Is Not Enough is where old Burbank movie agents go when they die. Finally out on DVD from Olive Films, this smelly Persian cat of a movie was a middle-aged sensation in its day, which may help us understand a few things, like why Richard Nixon was elected President. Twice.
